I am in awe of God's underwater creation, and amazed that I was able to scuba dive to see it having no former training thanks to the Discovery Scuba opportunity, and our caring, knowledgeable, and fun dive trainers, Jay, Callie, Cam, & Carol!
The training was not long:
30 min reading info about scuba (we were allowed to do this at a nextdoor cafe over lunch),
30 min of instruction,
& 30-60 min of skills practice (including breathing underwater, retrieving the mouthpiece if it falls from the mouth, clearing the mouthpiece if water gets in (simply blow it out), clearing the mask of water if needed (hold the forehead portion and blow with your nose). Other things were covered like how to communicate, and safety measures (like descend and ascend slowly, blowing pressure out of ears, etc.).
It was a manageable amount of training. One woman in our group couldn't get the breathing underwater part down, so left. While there is a no refund policy, the dive shop let her use snorkeling gear to float around while we completed the dive.
I was nervous with the breathing at first too, but after calming myself to focus on slow deep breaths down to my stomach, and then choosing to focus my thoughts out on what I was seeing instead of in about breathing, my body was able to relax, and I didn't have any issues after that.
The sights were unforgeable, so much so that we went twice!
The first spot to do a Discovery Dive there is under the pier. We went out with Jay who showed us so many great finds under there . We learned that some of the creatures have usual homes they hang out at so he knew where to find them. We saw 6 sea turtles, 2 octopus, 2 eels, a few sleeping sting ray, 5 stingrays gliding in unison in and out of the columns, crabs, a barracuda, and so many vibrantly colored fish and coral formations. Looking out over the water at the pier it looks so calm and normal; it was amazing to see a new world of activity under the pier!!
The second time we went out, we went to Cane Bay with Callie. The cost was a little less since we didn't need the full instruction. Callie gave us a helpful review, answered any questions, gave us some options to help us feel comfortable, and then we were off. It was amazing seeing a part of the huge healthy natural reef there! It was like walking through a huge garden except of course we could glide over, under (parts), and around it all! The reef overlooked a 3000 foot drop! We couldn't go to the edge of the drop because Discovery Divers can only go to 40ft underwater and the drop is at 60 ft, but we could see it from the dark blue expanse very clearly, and it was humbling and awe inspiring.
This offered us an astounding glimpse at a new side of our world that I never imagined is experience, will never forget, and hope to return to now for the rest of my life! I 100% recommend it!!!

We did two days of diving by ourselves off the Frederiksted Pier. The shop was very helpful in renting us tanks and instructing us on how to dive the pier. We then dove three days off their boat, The Ibis; the first two days off the north shore and the third on the wrecks on the west end. The captain and crew were very friendly and professional. On one of the days they had an extra dive master and she shot some video and stills of us on the dives that she airdropped to us. That was very nice. We would dive with them again.

If you are diving in St Croix, this is who you need to dive with. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and safety conscious. I did a 2 tank morning dive with Kelly and then a night along the pier with Carol. I was Carol’s only diver that night but she found critter after critter, the dive was jam packed with great finds. She found 3 octopuses, 2 of which were mating. She patiently used her torch to light them while I took a zillion pics. We were treated to an eagle rays and at the end, an incredible dive. Go with Carol!

By far the most experienced dive shop on the island and certainly the best boat and crew. Excellent equipment . I did 16 dives in 9 days. Excellent variety of dive sites! Wrecks, the wall, coral canyons. The dive masters pay attention to every detail. They always go the extra mile. I’ll be back and for sure use this dive shop!

Cane Bay Dive Shop was excellent. They were very helpful and friendly. We did 5 two tank boat dives with them. They were very good at getting us to dive sites with good visibility and great marine life. On our last day, Captain Jason spotted some dolphins in the area. The dolphins actually followed alongside our boat and briefly checked us all out when we got in the water. Jason and Greg were fantastic guides. We also did some shore diving from the pier. Ruby was helpful and friendly. She helped us get the best days for shore diving. Between the shore dives and boat dives, we saw Caribbean Reef sharks, dolphins, green turtles, hawksbill turtles, Southern rays, squid, lobster, puffers, flounders, barracuda along with the usual critters. I would certainly dive with Cane Bay Dive Shop again.

Amazing dive this morning with Greg and Lauren aboard the Ibis. The first dive at Emerald Gardens, was quite nice and took us down to about 80’ - turtles, a reef shark and all the common sea life expected at Cane Bay. The second dive at East Outer eclipsed all expectations - numerous reef sharks swan with us along the wall of the canyon, and we were constantly followed two very large remora, which had us looking for a much larger carrier for them. Two bottle nosed dolphins stopped by for a brief greeting as did a few lion fish. Great dive! Greg and Lauren run a great boat and dive.

You would think as the local experts they would ethically advise their customers or stand behind refunding after obvious unsafe conditions. As a mother visiting the island I came in and rented simple snorkel and fins for myself and two 10year old daughters, by 4pm I had gone to three different beaches and was finally told by a local that there’s no way you’d want to be out in the water and there was advisories so the dive shop should have warned us. I then accidentally called the wrong dive shop “Ultimate Bluewater” upset about my rental situation (in the conversation I assumed this was the shop I had just rented from so they assumed it as well, it wasn’t until the next morning when I made the return and had to cross checked my call log and found the phone number to be Ultimate Bluewater) I explained the situation and Ultimate Bluewater agreed the rental should not have taken place and told me to come back in the morning and they would refund me my rental. I returned my rental to the “correct” business Cane Bay Dive Shop to find out they don’t find any ethical issue sending tourist out with snorkel equipment into their dangerous water. I was told they don’t do credits, they would extend my rental a day (the water is still wicked rough so this does nothing in favor of safety). This shop should be ashamed of itself, how can you knowingly send visitors (including children) into waters that you as experts could ethically advise against but to cash a buck you don’t... At least your competitors see something wrong with it and they aren’t even who I rented from but they without even hesitation recognized it was wrong and were going to refund a rental. Not, Cane Bay Dive Shop they have to keep that dollar and at the risk of people’s safety, tragic to think how many visitors this business puts at risk.

While Trip Advisor reviewers rave about Cane Bay Dive Shop for its scuba instruction and dive tours, I am writing to rave about another Cane Bay Dive Shop offering; its Sunset Wine Cruise. My husband and I are residents of St Croix and we recently had the good fortune of going on the December Wine Cruise on Salt River. It turns out that Cane Bay Dive Shop has two chefs on its crew, Chef Ken (also Captain) and Chef Morgan (Divemaster) who created an impressive and delicious five-course tasting menu paired with lovely wines, including Sparkling Rose, Pinot Noir and Port. There was a wine discussion with each wine pairing that was interesting and informative. Just to make your mouth water, the tasting menu included smoked Coho salmon, Thai green curry shrimp, roasted duck breast, balsamic braised lamb and a chocolate hazel nut puff.
The shop and boat owners Suzanne and Hal and the crew were caring, attentive and worked hard to give everyone a pleasant and memorable experience. A special shout out to Divemaster Jason for telling me about the wine cruise and for putting all of the guests in a festive mood as he was dressed as Santa while piloting the boat. The wine cruise was also intimate with 12 passengers on a large, comfortable boat; a mix of local residents and tourists, that were interesting to talk to and we made new friends.
I understand that the shop may be offering a wine cruise on a monthly basis as well as for private charters. Do not hesitate to reserve your chance to enjoy a perfect evening out on the water. We’re still talking about how great it was.

Ken, Greg, Carol, Jason, and Lauren were amazing! We booked four or five weeks ahead of time, and when we showed up, we were the only two people that were booked the first day The Dive shop did the right thing and took us out anyway. Can’t say enough about the ability and accommodating attitude of the entire crew both days. They dove to our abilities, kept everything safe and showed us things we never would’ve seen! The sharks were amazing, as were the turtles, which were the two highlights of the dives. We will use the shop again!

The dive shop is very well stocked and the staff were pleasant. The dive shop owner greeted us every morning. The divemasters and captains were very nice and capable, and kept us safe underwater and also getting back on the boat in somewhat rough seas. The boat was a 46’ Newton with plenty of room and shade. A professional photographer Bill joined most dives. The dives were guided, but there was plenty of freedom as we were an experienced group. It was not babysitting underwater. Special shout out to Tina, Ken, Jason, and Bill our photographer who were in the water with us multiple days, and to Billy and Ken (again) our captains. The reef was pretty with excellent coral and plenty of fish, comparable to my favorite other Caribbean islands (Bonaire, Curaçao, and the Caymans.) We saw more turtles and big reef sharks on this island than on any other trip. I personally found my first ever seahorse on the night dive on the pier, and our group saw a manta ray on one of the boat dives. There was minimal to no current on the dives.

Is there Full scuba rental at kiosk at divi and pricing also is there any good dive sites from shore at divi? Open 7 days a week at kiosk?
Written March 9, 2017
Good morning,
The Divi location is open 3-4 days a week, depending on what is happening each week. The depth is a maximum of 12 feet in front of the Divi Carina beach. This is an area to get re-acclimated with your gear for a dive or participate in a beginner discover scuba.
We have a few sets of gear for training at this location. If someone would like rental from this location, we ask that you email to set this up ahead of time and we will have it there for your visit.
