The Hole is a sinkhole formed by solution of the surrounding limestone by downward-percolating, naturally-acid groundwater. Sinkholes are common in limestone terrain, and The Hole is an impressive example. If you have a chance, check the water level in the bottom before and after a rainstorm; the rise in water level is impressive. The local rock has as much porosity as actual rock.

The Turks & Caicos website has a generic description of The Hole, with nothing related to its history or details of the geology. The Hole was within walking distance of our BnB, so we visited several times. There are no explanatory signs at the Hole itself. There is a rope for those who choose to explore The Hole at depth. Based on local conditions, this is a stupid idea IMHO, based on jagged rock and the tendency for water levels to rise suddenly if there is rain.

There were several tours that visited when we were there. If you have a car, The Hole is easy to find via Google maps. The local roads are good enough for bicycles and mopeds.

It’s a very big hole in the ground with a bag of trash at the bottom, a rope hanging off the side and a condom wrapper nearby. 5 stars, would recommend.

The hole isn't much to look at, it is literally just a hole in the bush.. nothing more!
However it's a fair drop down with no fencing so please do be careful and wear suitable, grippy shoes.

The water below is murky, nearby is a small cave entrance that is full of cockroaches, you can enter the cave and climb down into the hole if you dare!

Hole-e Cow! Best hole I’ve ever been to. Hole-some family fun. The hole family enjoyed it. Dare I say, the hole-e grail of free fun.

On Sundays I take my ex-wife here after church and burgers. I’d give it a hole lot more stars if I could.

(It’s a deep hoe in the ground, people.)

I bugged my wife quite adamantly to visit THE HOLE. Because let's face it, I rented a car from Avis and there's literally 5 areas to visit that are drive worth in Providenciales. THE HOLE is a short 20 minute drive on and off dirt roads to the south from Grace Bay.

The sign will be on your left if you're going south and if you're planning a visit to long bay beach, it's not that out of the way.

On first impression you walk about 12 feet and notice a crater, in your head you may think...oh like...12 feet across...nope, it's a big darn HOLE that runs more like 30 feet across and 80 feet down and filled with ground water.

Tips:
Don't go in the hole.
Have a cell phone and buddy with you.
It's a bit rural, just be alert about your surroundings, don't go at night, don't trust anyone that jumps out of a bush lol.

Its a large sink hole, not much else to say. We were driving around the island, saw "The Hole" on the map and decided to go. There's a hand painted sign along the road that shows the location of the hole and its about a 50 foot walk to the site. I didn't find it that impressive. I guess it takes more than a sink hole to excite me any more.

If you find this interesting perhaps you should also visit the ever-burning smoke plume coming from the dump on the other end of the island!

I was shocked to see the lackluster reviews of "The Hole"! It is a cave that caved in from the surface much like a Florida sinkhole (only we're dealing with beautiful limestone here). Pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this spot on T&C!

I will add some for context. Dangerous?! Yes! If you're an overprotected American (like myself) expecting handrails and a disclaimer on your way into the cave ... Which leads me to ... Climb into the cave. It's amazing! Know the history, know the mystery. It's so much more than a "dangerous" hole!

As others have said, it's a huge hole and can easily and quickly become dangerous! The colorations are nice. My addition is if you scan the ground (in the brushes) there are beautiful small shells ... suitable for making small jewerly items ... or if you don't want to bring back a large conch shell ... the small will work. Using the second entrance I found an owl perched and napping, bats "hanging on" and a couple of bird nests.

A natural limestone hole in the ground, maybe 50 feet across and 60 feet down. Nasty water and rubbish at the bottom. Neat to see the layers in the stone, but there are some loose rocks and absolutely no safeguards, so don't be an idiot here, K?
