We attended the Underwater Explorer with our 16mo old daughter and were excited to do so based on the reviews. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, but this experience was not one I want to remember and $160 I will never get back, with no positive memories to go with it.

When we arrived, once everyone had paid for their tickets, the captain announced that the A/C was out, but there were fans so it shouldn't be too hot. It was miserable! Half the fans were not working and there was no airflow through the underbelly of the boat. Further, it is so cramp and uncomfortable in there, the collective guests just heated it up even more. We had no waves of seasickness but were nauseous from the heat, the entire ride, wanting it to be over as quickly as it started.

The young woman who was our guide would not engage with the guests and was rather unfriendly. I am not convinced she wanted to be there. She mumbled her lines in a robotic voice that was hard to hear at times over the boat. A young boy sitting in front of us, and behind her, kept asking his parents questions about what she was saying and she would rudely stop and scold him, one time even blowing a horn to startle him (and everyone else). It was just very unwelcoming and unfriendly. Maybe because she was as uncomfortable as us from the heat and stuffiness.

Additionally, the windows were dirty, which made it hard to get any decent photos.

Fortunately the whole thing only lasted 45 minutes. Unfortunately it cost $160 for 3 of us for those short, miserable 45 minutes.

P.S. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the Mermaid deserves it for holding her breath so long, and we did see a couple dozen sea turtles that I did not see snorkeling.

We went yestrday with my wife and 1year old baby daughter. I was a bit sceptical at first but the whole experience was highly enjoyable for all of us. The boat was cool inside which was great. The guide was very knowledgeable pointing out numerous turtles, eagle rays and other beautiful fish and corals, way more than we ever saw on any of the snorkel trips in the area. The highlight of the trip, especially for the older kids was the beautiful mermaid Linsea gracefully gliding through the water. Our baby girl was also fascinated by the new environment, which was great. Highly recommended to people of all ages, fun and educational. Thank you Linsea and Undersea Explorer!

We had fun on this short mermaid tour. The semi submarine was very comfortable and clean inside. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job showing us the species of fish and turtles we were seeing. Of course seeing the mermaid and pirate was amazing too, very nice experience for little ones.

There were a group who were not interested in listening, so the tour guide tried her best to ask them to be quiet but they ignored her. This was very rude and spoiled the tour, but this was due to these rude people, not undersea explorers.

perfect length for small kids and adults who want a quick view of several reef areas. we learned a lot about the types of fish we saw, and were able to see 21 turtles, an eagle ray, plus schools of other fish. we saw a variety including parrot fish, goat fish, puffer fish, sergeant major, blue tang, horse eyed jack, squid, and more. the tour lasted an hour and the guide was knowledgeable and informative.

My husband and I don't like to snorkel or scuba so we did the next best thing: rode in a half-submarine and got to see the reef! We saw 6 sea turtles on our tour and tons of coral and fishes. The tour guide did a great job trying to point out different fish and corals and giving fun-facts. I am claustrophobic and surprisingly I felt just fine in this vessel. It was air conditioned and fans were blowing down below and we were told that at any time if we needed to, we could go through one of the two exits and stand on the top boat for fresh air. None of us needed to and it was very enjoyable. Definitely do this!

At first I was skeptical about what we would really see on this trip. However, it was wonderful! We saw multiple turtles, mantas, sting rays - as well as the expected coral and fish. The guide was very knowledgeable, and made sure that those on both side of the boat were kept informed of the possible sights.
If you don't like to snorkel or scuba - but want to feel as if you are - this is a great trip. However, if you book through Expedia - make sure that the company gets the confirmation/booking.

This was one of the best experiences of our whole holiday, as it was a completely new view of the ocean - and what lives The boat's viewing area is surprisingly roomy, and my friend's fears of claustrophobia disappeared as she became engrossed in what we were passing by! We saw clouds of colourful fishes, many and varied types of sponge, coral (which the very knowledgeable guide explained to us in detail) and TURTLES, lots of turtles. The swathes of turtle grass, the coral reefs and the wildlife were all seen to best advantage from the belly of this fantastic wee boat. At 70 dollars per head, it's quite pricey, but so must their overheads be, so no real complaints there. All in all, a fantastic, memorable experience

This is alternative to snorkeling and diving. Like being in a submarine and seeing the under the sea life - coral, many different little fishes, turtles and on this occasion we saw a shark close up. An excellent and knowledgeable commentary given and all our questions well answered. We were in the capable hands of Captain Alistair for the trip.

The semi-submarine ride is an amazing ezperience. To see the coral reefs, sea life and turtles in Crystal clear carribean waters in a sight to behold. Our daughter had the time of her life looking and pointing out the fish.

My only negative about the ride is the price. $70 for a 45 min ride and $60 for kids is a bit too steep. In addition we had a sleeping toddler with us and we're charged $60 for the toddler too, which I thought was a bit too much. But having come the far we just sucked it up and paid.

Maybe the team can consider lower fares for lap kids.

Thank you for the review and I am delighted that you enjoyed the experience. With reference to the prices, I am sure you will appreciate that this is a very expensive island, but if everyone were to book direct with us rather than through the tour desk at the resorts then we could consider lowering the prices all round, as the resorts charge a MASSIVE commission and we have to make it up with the direct bookings. (There is one resort that makes more money on the price of the tour than we do as a company.)

First, Bella the mermaid and Jack the Pirate put on a bit of a show for the kids- my three year old girl got a kick out of that but my almost 6 yo shrugged at it. That part could have been a tiny bit shorter (but it's all in good fun). The really magical part is getting to the reef and the turtle areas. We saw tons of beautiful fish (the parrotfish are my fav!!), eagle rays, a sting ray, and several sea turtles. Esp given that my kids are too young to even snorkel let alone scuba dive, this was perfect. A must do if you come to T&C with non-swimmers!
