The S/V ATABEYRA is a 69', traditionally rigged trading schooner that retired from cargo service almost 20 years ago. The vessel traded for years between Hispaniola and the Turks & Caicos Islands carrying such commodities as rum , beer, produce, plants, building materials and even a few critters. The ship has been refit as a charter vessel and now stays close to home in the sheltered waters of Grace Bay and the Caicos Cays of Turks and Caicos Islands. The S/V ATABEYRA is the perfect platform for learning hands on operation of traditional sailing craft, for exploring the exquisite undersea world and many islands that surround us or just lounging on her spacious, shaded decks. No vessel in the TCI charter fleet is as large or as versatile. Sun Charters and the ATABEYRA crew offer our guests a unique opportunity to get real sailing experience aboard the last of the tropical trading schooners. Being a gaff-rigged vessel carrying two headsails, there are lots of lines to pull, many sails to tend, and the skipper will even be happy to let you take the helm. Feel the past come alive as we sail through the uninhabited chain of Caicos Cays the same way it was done hundreds of years ago. The Cays were once the lair of the infamous lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Reid, and the waters and surrounding islands remain basically untouched since that time. The Crew of the Good Ship Atabeyra are proud that she is overwhelmingly the boat the residents choose when recreating in the Caicos Cays.

Had an amazing time on the Ateberya, it's a fantastic boat with warm welcoming staff! We were lucky enough to see some dolphins who swam alongside the boat and we then jumped in with them whilst they swam around us, it was absolutely amazing! We were also able to go snorkelling with sharks and as we went in breeding season... More

I went on the ateberya boat whilst visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands and enjoyed it so much I went on three times during my two week stay. We went as a group of friends and had the most amazing time. During the day trip we went snorkelling to see the coral reefs, sailed around the sea and stopped at... More

We took the sunset/glow worm tour in June. Dock was easy to find. Crew were great and took pictures of our group, Rum punch, beer, non alcoholic drinks were served and plentiful. Chips and salsa also served. There is a bathroom on board. Beautiful sunset. After the sun went down we saw numerous glow worms lighting up to attract a... More

Went with a group of girlfriends and had a great time, we went on the Thursday cruise and the sunset cruise. The staff was very friendly and we always had a full glass of rum punch in our hands. They made us feel very welcome and there was a lot of room on the boat. We were taken to a... More

I come to Provo several times a year, and going out on the Atabeyra for a snorkel sail is my favorite thing to do. The beautiful schooner is elegant and peaceful, and the public trips seem more like private charters than a tourist activity. It's fun to hop around to a few different islands and see the gorgeous shades of... More
