About
Provo Ponies is a small riding stable located on the southeast end of the island of Providenciales. We do two guided rides a day, morning ride at 9:30am and an afternoon ride at 3:00pm during winter hours, 3:30pm during the summer. We can take all experience levels from 7 years old and up. Everyone rides their own horse or pony, no double riding. We have a 230 pound weight limit. Groups are never more than 12 riders. Private rides are available. Anyone under 18 must wear a helmet. We ride along quiet dirt roads and trails to Long Bay Beach, a 4 mile long beach. We do our best not to do nose to tail type rides, and more experienced riders are given the chance to trot or canter along the beach depending on the tides. The shallow waters of the Caicos Banks off Long Bay make it an ideal place to take horse into the ocean. You can book a 60 or a 90 minute ride. We can arrange for transportation to & from your resort, reservations are required. We are a fully insured and licensed business.

- Shelly C1 contributionFavorite part of our trip!My fiancé and I were in for a wedding and decided to break off from the group to take a horse ride on the beach. I am so glad we did, since it was our favorite part of the whole trip! I ride, train, and give lessons at home in the states and was so pleased at how professional all the staff and ponies were. From experience, I know how hard it can be to get a large group of people, with barely any horse experience (or even no experience), comfortable enough to ride on their own for an entire hour, and they made it look effortless! Our guide even took our phone during the ride and took a ton of awesome pics. The tide was quite high when we arrived at the beach so there was no cantering for our group, but riding and swimming in the water was unreal. I found it very respectable that they genuinely care for their horses well-being and made it a point to put their health first instead of catering to the riders that were hoping to run along the beach. I highly recommend Provo Ponies to anyone wanting to have the greatest time on their vacation.Thank you so much for your great review. We love it when experienced people come and recognize what we do and the skill of our crew. So happy you enjoyed yourself.Written February 11, 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 10, 2020
- Ghettozoo15 contributionsA rare diamond that is quickly disappearing.. great rideWe had a group of four with skills ranging from professional to first time rider and all said the ride was a lifetime experience and they could die happy. To get that from young adults is just about impossible. Between diminishing land and equine liability riding a horse plus into the ocean is almost gone to the general public. If you want to have a great, wet ocean ride then book at least sixty days out or more to secure your saddle. The stable will great you on arrival, go over the legal stuff and then mount you to evaluate your skills on their horses. Once everyone is mounted you will walk or trot down the road to the beach. The horses LOVE the beach so keep your seat and ready rein to stay on the beach and not fall off in the ocean as your horse sprints to the cool water. The group will meander into the waves and enjoy the view walking towards the bay and eventually turn around for a walk or canter back depending on skill level. A really nice day at the beach.Visited March 2020Traveled with familyWritten March 13, 2020
- Valeria P2 contributionsDO IT!!!This was an amazing experience. I wouldn’t think twice about booking. If there’s one thing I loved about my time in Turks, it was definitely this activity. The staff is so nice and welcoming. They help you learn the basics to make everything go smoothly. I originally booked on a Thursday but we were unfortunately hit with a storm.. Provo Ponies reached out and they were able to accommodate and fit me for Saturday. They also provide transportation at an additional cost. The horses itself are so beautiful and it was truly a breathtaking experience going into the water with these wonderful animals/people.Visited August 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten August 21, 2021
- Jessica BBroomall, Pennsylvania138 contributionsExcellent, well-run experience! My 13 year old daughter has been riding since she was small and really wanted to do this tour while in Provo. Since I have no riding experience or desire to ride, I was happy to see she’d be able to participate without me having to accompany her. She did the group ride and had the time of her life. On arrival, it was clear the organization is well run and highly focused on rider safety. It’s also apparent these horses are well cared for. The group was a mix of people of various backgrounds... from people who had never ridden before all the way to people who are experienced. Each horse is paired to accommodate the rider’s weight and riding experience. A safety briefing is given before anyone is allowed near the horses, and there are enough guides on each ride to ensure the riders’ safety. And don’t worry if you’re not an experienced rider... they’ll teach you everything you need to know and assist the whole way through. I recommend wearing water shoes or old sneakers and long pants/leggings. Sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, and a waterproof phone pouch are also helpful. It’s hot and you’ll be outside in the sun for a couple hours. I drove down to the beach area and was able to watch the group take the horses into the water. The guides are VERY attentive throughout the ride and will take photos with your phone. Tip them well because these people work HARD to ensure the horses’ wellbeing and a good, safe time is had by all. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable experience in Provo.Visited August 2020Traveled with familyWritten August 30, 2020
- Mahmoud F1 contributionGreat ExperienceProvo ponies gave us one of the best memories on the island. My wife and I came to the island for our honeymoon and we were dying to try the horse back riding. We had a blast! My wife was timid about being back on a horse but the tour guides were incredible! She talked her through the entire ride along with her partner who was super polite and helped both of us feel totally comfortable. The horses were wonderful and it was clear they loved and took great care of their horses. We enjoyed the ride so much and would definitely recommend anyone who comes to Turks and Caicos to go to Provo ponies for horse back riding. It was one of the best memories!Visited November 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten November 19, 2020
- Shannon B1 contributionIt was so intensely amazing and beautiful I cried in joy when we walked the horses into the surfI am a lifelong horsewoman and I have taken several horse excursions during my travels the last 26 years and Provo Ponies was THE BEST. Not only from a humane standpoint - horses were HEALTHY and well cared for, no easy feat on an island you have to import everything into - but also a deep care and compassion for what makes horses well... happy horses. How does this tourist know the horses were happy? I am also a professional animal communicator, a fact I do not openly share when I enter animal specific venues for many reasons. I rode Thor and my husband rode Turtle and I was immediately flooded with imagery that these two horses were bonded through past trauma. Our wonderful guide shared their back story when we rode in the ocean and I found out that was indeed true and was testimony to me the loving and healing these creatures are capable of not just to themselves and each other but all they interact with. My in-laws are a bit older with some body specific deficiencies (bad back/bad hip) and they were matched with perfect mounts Pilgrim and Patches. My 13 year old nephew was first time riding and Mango gave him enough gidde up to make the ride exciting to a video game loving teenager and enough whoa to make it safe! I would take this ride over and over and pay twice the fee as I feel like we were robbing them between the wonderful horses, scenery, gorgeous ocean and all over happy mood of the group. This is by far the best paid excursion one can have outside the resorts, book early!Visited July 2021Written July 19, 2021
- RoseOrlando, Florida1 contributionUnsafeHorrifying experience. I booked a 90 minute tour with this group and was honest about my experience, height, and weight. I was assigned a horse named Apache. I was told that he does not like other horses passing him, and that he preferred to stay in the back of the group. When we were instructed to head toward the beach, I let everyone else (about 12 other tourists) go in front of me, to ensure that Apache was comfortable and able to stay in the back where I was told his preference was. When we reached a narrow sandy trail almost to the water, one of our guides, Camaro, started to ride next to Apache and I on our left. I am unsure why he came around to the side of my horse knowing that it makes him uneasy, but as Apache saw him approach, he turned around, cornered the guide and his horse and began bucking and kicking them. Needless to say this was a terrifying experience for me, and I am very thankful that the horse and person being kicked at was not another tourist on the ride with us. We were told: “This is why we stress keeping space between them. We could do that nose to tail type riding but that would be no fun for the riders or the horses.” I did exactly that. I kept space, stayed in the back just as instructed and yet Apache decided to buck and kick at the horse and guide who were passing us in the left despite telling me several times that Apache does not like that and can act up. Additionally, I believe safety should come first over “fun for the other riders or horses” and then that should come second. I will not recommend this tour to anyone, as I felt very unsafe.Visited January 2020Traveled with friendsWritten January 20, 2020
- Daria B19 contributionsSafety first (for horse and rider)Really enjoyed this activity. We’re both experienced riders and often go on horse rides whenever we are on vacation, but have never experienced something like this. Riding in the ocean was absolutely amazing and an unforgettable experience. Didn’t get to canter because the tide wasn’t right and the safety of the horses goes first, which we appreciated very much. All riders were matched up well with their respective horses and each one in the group got a mini lesson to make sure everybody knows at least some riding basics. Yes it is considerably expensive, but so is importing EVERYTHING that these horse need to stay healthy. And the main purpose of this stable is not profit, but rescuing horses in need and lovingly caring for them. Thanks for a unique and beautiful experience. So happy you enjoyed your ride. We all felt secure and in control of the horses we were riding. It was one of the best activities we did while on Turks. After a brief introduction to our horses and what the game plan was we were off. Meandering down the street in single file until we reached a path that led to the beach. We entered the water (it was low tide) and off we went. All smiles, laughing. Our guides were fantastic - took pictures for us, answered questions about the island, made other recommendations. When it was time to turn around the horses knew exactly what to do. The facility is clean and well maintained, the equipment was all in good working condition, and the horses appeared well cared for. We would absolutely do this again and highly recommend it. Even the person in our party who was most nervous about riding a horse had a blast!!Visited December 2019Written January 12, 2020

Provo Ponies was an absolutely amazing experience. The staff were friendly, outgoing, respectful, and took a genuine interest in each rider. They expertly paired each rider with a horse to match their experience level.
When they took us to the beach we got 15 to 20 minutes in the water. Absolutely awesome!!!
I have ridden horses more than a fair amount, and this was one of the best rides I've ever had.
Thank you Provo Ponies.

Wow what a truly amazing experience! I've never ridden a horse and whilst I was nervous, the idea of riding in the ocean intrigued me enough to book.
They were great at selecting the right horse for the right rider - seemed quite a complicated task, as the horse had to be the right size for the rider weight, right for the level of experience of the riders (in our case, none) but also they made sure my horse and my husband's got on well together, so that we could safely ride next to each other.
After a brief instruction I was still nervous, and we slowly made our way down the quiet road to the beach. By the time we got to the beach my nerves had gone as our horses - Samson and Levi - were well behaved and calm, and it was such a fabulous thing to walk them into the ocean and ride up and down.
My horse, Samson, kept nibbling on pieces of seaweed!
They took lots of time with each person/group to take lots of photos of you on your horses, we had I don't know how many photos taken which means we have lovely mementos of the day.
It's clear that the horses are well looked after and loved, and that the horses really love going in the water. We had an amazing time, thank you so much!

We have been traveling to Turks and Caicos since 2012 and I make it a point to ride with Provo Ponies when I visit. Kelly was our Guide and she shared knowledge of every horse and what to look for in their personalities. Clearly it is not an easy task monitoring several novice riders in this setting and Kelly was incredible. I am a horse owner and ride whenever I travel - so I always take into consideration the health of the horses. Provo Ponies are so well cared for by the owners and staff. - happy ponies for sure! The beach ride is something that you will always remember. Believe there is nothing like it in the world.
