Rented a golf cart for the day, picked up outside of the cruise ship terminal. Went to lighthouse first as on far end of island, then would work our way back to see other sites. Entry only $3, and can use entrance fee for $1 off drink at bar. Nice views of the north end the island, and reading about the history of the lighthouse around the grounds. Nice to have a drink and enjoy the view. Very friendly staff. Also, lots of donkeys around the parking lot. Can feed them, or get your picture with them. Very docile. Recommend for those wanting to explore the island, or to visit initially and go to one of the beaches.

Do not do the tour through Chukka (orange polos). It's not a tour at all. The "park" is $3 to enter. There is no guide, map, or sign to tell you how to navigate the "park." Do not pay to enter this area
It's a complete waste of time and money. Take a picture of the lighthouse from the tram/bus and move on. Staff was rude, bothered when I asked what paid entry included.

The area was deserted due to the COVID pandemic. It must have been quite a place when cruise ships were going there. Looked like there were places to eat and drink, stables for horseback riding, zip lines.
It was totally deserted when I was there. Not a soul in sight except for some people at the neighboring community college. The lighthouse is not operating.
You can access the grounds and walk around there as well as on the old/deserted US Army base that was there. It's pretty cool to see and the views are really great.
The saddest thing to see was all the trash that was left there. People have left empty plastic water bottles and beer cans and liquor bottles all over the place. Overflowing trash cans and trash left all over the place.
I hope it is cleaned up soon and some of the trash is recycled. It could be a really cool place but without visitors, it's falling into disrepair and neglect. Very sad to see.

This is a must-see while in Grand Turk! Picturesque and scenic, the Lighthouse offers a wealth of information in an atmosphere that is serene and tranquil. I highly recommend getting a treat from the Lazy Donkey while visiting. The conch fritters are outstanding!

While the stories relating to the lighthouse are interesting, the facility is nothing more than a tourist trap. The lighthouse itself is unimpressive. You can see donkeys and better views elsewhere. Avoid - there are better things to do and see on Grand Turk.

If you have some spare time, this is worth a visit and a refreshment. Enjoyed reading about all the history as well as the views. The little bar offered drinks, snacks and food. I think it may have been the only “attraction” open on New Year’s Day on Grand Turk, and for that we were grateful!

Visited lighthouse while on island tour. It is nice, but the local donkey (jackass) was the highlight. This wild donkey quickly trollope to our tour bus after the horn was blown. He briefly entertained before enjoying the treat produced by the guide.
Donkeys were used to transport salt from the mines decades ago. Now, their descendants are protected by the government and allowed to freely roam the island. Injured donkeys receive free health care from the government. You gotta LOVE island LIFE!

Visited Grand Turk Island on a recent cruise and wondered how to get the most out of the one day visit. We had a great day and want to share our experience. You must be a little adventurous, although this was not that big a risk. We rented a motor scooter for $50 in the main shopping area as you arrive at the dock. They also had golf carts for the less adventurous! The scooter rental agent gave us a map and brief description of the island. The island is only 7mi. long by 2 mi. wide and the main roads loop the island. The speed limit is 30 mph. Traffic on the island is minimal. We easily found our way to the lighthouse on the north tip of the island, arriving before the ship shore excursion groups. We enjoyed cruising around the island, checking out interesting looking spots and then moving on. We wanted to include some time at the beach and chose Governors beach, which was recommended by a local working the zip line @ the lighthouse. We were amazed to see this beautiful beach and there was absolutely noone there but us. My first thought was there must be sharks, jellyfish or stingrays in the water and the beach must be closed. Not the case, it very simply was unknown to the cruise ship visitors. This was also amazing since the cruise ship is within walking distance to this beach and the beach that is just a couple hundred yards closer to the ships was jam packed with beachgoers. We had a great time alone at Governors beach and touring the island on a scooter. Give it a try!

We took a tour for $20.00 per person around the island. You can also rent a golf cart for $60.00. We stopped at the lighthouse to walk around and see the donkeys. They are everywhere and you can feed them if you wish. The views are beautiful.

Can visitors get in side the lighthouse?
Written March 12, 2020
I dont think you can go inside the lighthouse. At least we did not see any opportunity to when we were there in January.

Hi-
About renting golf carts in Grand Turk. We are heading there in February and wanted to ask you how to get a hold of Omar from grand Turk adventures. Also- how was it getting around with a golf cart? I was thinking of stopping at Governour Beach and Pillory Beach and Lighthouse. We are in port from 12-6
Thank you in advance! I do appreciate it!

Hi! We were there in October. Our friends rented a golf cart and we rented a jeep. They regretted not getting the jeep too
We only spent $10 more than they did and enjoyed it much more. The golf carts are not well maintained and are very, very slow. We passed several people in golf carts that were broken down. The jeep was a newer model. Something you may want to consider is that with the jeep you can lock up your personal belongings when you stop at the beaches or other destinations. We were concerned about the traffic and driving on the opposite side of the road but unlike other carribean islands, there is very little traffic and there is no way to get lost. We were also able to visit places that are accessible only by 4wd. There is not much to do in Grand Turk. We tried snorkeling from shore near the Bohio Resort at Pillory Beach but the visibility that day was only about 2ft. If we ever go back we will definitely book a snorkeling excursion instead so we really appreciate the beautiful water! Good luck!

We are planning on renting a scooter or golf cart and tour the island and visit the lighthouse. Do you know how much the zipline is, if you don't book through a cruise ship?
Written July 27, 2016
Rent the golf cart, you can see the island in a day.
You can not even see the inside of the lighthouse.
The donkeys at that end of the island a cool.
As a couple people have said the zip line is nothing more than telephone pole to telephone pole, I would feel like I got ripped off if I was counting on a zip line experience.....

Do you remember how much the golf car was?
Written June 4, 2015
I only saw golf cart rentals at the port for around $35.00. I do not know if that was only half a day.

Would this be easy to walk to from the Carnival Cruise line port?
Written February 27, 2015
No, it is not walkable. You can rent a car on the island and pick it up just outside the ship terminal gates, or hire a driver. We rented golf carts. Car rental is less expensive.

Hello, I was hoping to check out the lighthouse in April. Maybe the lighthouse doesn't look as good as it used to, but is the view still good?
Since we have not been to Grand Turk and we do no snorkling, what would you advise that we see/do, that wouldn't be to expensive?
