This place way exceeded my expectations. I had a bad chest infection throughout my trip to Trinidad & Tobago so to be able to see & photograph so many beautiful birds from the veranda when I hadn't the energy to walk was such a treat....More
We have spent 5 nights in AWNC. The rooms are OK, normal size, clean and tidy. In the main building there is a huge verandah with a view on the feeders and the extended garden. There is always a guide around to point out special...More
We were scheduled to arrive at noon for lunch followed by a 1:30 nature walk but due to extremely bad POS traffic, we arrived almost 45 minutes late. The staff held our lunch for us, which none of us were expecting. The staff treated us...More
This was our second stay and again we wish we could have stayed longer. In fact it was even better than last time - the rooms have been upgraded and the veranda - with its views out to the rainforest - remain beautiful. Anytime you...More
Wonderful wildlife centre with comfortable chalet accommodation. Birds amazing with feeders all around to attract humming birds and others. Guide ready to explain and point out different species. A special place
The place is a former Great House, with its spacious and airy rooms looking out on the mountain side that used to be covered with cocoa and coffee bushes. Lots of humming birds and other small birds are flitting around cans of sugared water. A...More
Accommodation near Asa Wright Nature Centre (3 Replies)
Hello everyone We are arriving into POS airport for a one night stay on February 18 at 6pm after a 10 hour flight before transferring to Tobago on February 19 very early evening. We therefore want a hotel/guesthouse (3 star equivalent and above please for 2 adults and an 11 year old child) close to AWNC as we wish to arrive at the AWNC at 9am when it opens for day visitors. For us, accommodation at the AWNC Lodge is not cheap (3 x 215 US dollars) for one room for one night but we...More

I don't see how you will avoid 3 taxi rides unless you stay at AWNC. But check the link at the right for Trinidad Hotels and see if you find what you're looking for.
Transportation (2 Replies)
Looking for information on best public transportation from Port of Spain to the Asa Wright Nature Centre. Is there a scheduled public bus route?

no... but you can book a taxi... I will get the number and post it later... no bus goes up that way... the bus drops you off at Lopinot Junction ...then you have to take a Lopinot Taxi... to take you up to Asa Wright... best bet is sure transport... or else you have to make it a nature walk... which is the way it is enjoyed best...
Birding Guide in Trinidad? (1 Reply)
Do you have recommendation or advice on finding a private birding guide in Trinidad? We will be staying at the Asa Wright Nature Centre, but would like to see other nearby areas of the island with an experienced birding guide. We don't do well with structured group tours so are looking for a private guide. We will be traveling in mid March. Thanks Mike

I would contact Asa Wright--fantastic place, BTW--and ask them for recommendations as well.
