Recently completed two days of nature trekking with Emile. We went to the mud volcano south of Penal the first day (with required trek to the ocean to wash off the mud), then to Paria Bay and waterfall the next day.
After each trip, Emile had some other (simpler) activities planned (not listed on the agenda), which included stopping for some hearty, local snacks, as well as an extended a tour.
Afterwards, we considered if we could have done these trips without hiring a guide, and decided that it would have been very difficult, if not impossible. Both trips required some expertise, directions, equipment, contacts, and guidance from a professional guide. Even just taking pictures would have not been possible if Emile had not done it, and he then forwarded them to us afterward.
His energy level and enthusiasm is at a very high level, and while you are hiring him as a guide, he feels more like this friend you didn't know you had, looking out for you (literally) every step of the way.
After the first day, we realized we needed to adjust our ambitious plans for the next day, so during the evening he strategized and made some phone calls to tweak the agenda so that the next triek was a success.
After we finished, he went out of his way to assist us getting back to the airport for our rental car, and complete a necessary errand, then followed up with us while we continued our trip in TT, in case we had any issues.
I deliberately did not provide any commentary on the treks we went on, as it's best to leave those for you to discover on your own. But will say that Emile is very happy to discuss various options ahead of time so that the treks are manageable and enjoyable for all.
Emile is focusing his private tours on foreign visitors, and provides an invaluable service for those who want an experience-based visit, but do not have full knowledge of the region and locations to satisfactorily and safely complete it on their own.

All the positive reviews for Emile and his trekking service are spot-on. Emile is amazing in his knowledge of the off-the-beaten path hikes in Trinidad! We hiked to Rincon Falls. While the hike itself was challenging, very slippery and rugged (there were areas were you had to use ropes to get up and down the trail), the end point was well worth it! Emile is very patient and hikes at a pace that is comfortable, taking stops to explain the plants, trees, wildlife, and history of the area. Bring extra clothes to change into after and wear solid shoes because you will get wet and muddy. After, we stopped at Maracas for a well earned Bake and Shark and some beach time. Also, the drivers that Emile sent were just as nice and informative. You can tell that they are all passionate about sharing their lovely country with us! I could go on, but this is getting long..... Bravo, Emile!!

Emil showed us an incredible and adventurous time in Trinidad. Brought us to the Mud Volcano, the Paria Waterfall, down to the temples in the water and up to the observatory of Paramin, while eating juicy mangos, trying shark and bake, laughing out loud.
Each place and each angle he showed us in Trinidad was accompanied by his incredible story telling, he enlightened us with with knowledge and tenderness.
This was a one in a life time experience for all of our family members, a core memory we'll bring with us for the rest of our life.
Thank you Emil!

Emil was an excellent hiking guide to the Rio Seco waterfalls. He was very knowledgeable about the host of the area and the trail. He was exceptionally good with the teenagers and a young child.
He walked with all the necessary safety equipment.

Full day hike, land & river - Matura/mermaid pools
DDI Chacachacare
Mt Tamina/Bat cave
Hollis Reservoir
Turure water steps
Maracas water falls to las Cuevas - rincon, blackpool, zorro, angel falls

We were picked up by Emile early morning and made our way up the mountains in his 4x4 through the turns of the North coast of Trinidad.
We got some more suitable shoes on and began our trip through the jungle, ascending past nutmeg trees, fruits of all sorts and interesting insects.
At one point we found a great point to jump 15 foot down into a plunge pool, looks great on the camcorder!
The Marianne river is beautiful, and the waterfall where we sat by and ate fresh mango at was truly amazing.
From here we trekked through the river, traversing different terrains.
After an exhilarating trek, we got back to the car and made our way to Maracas Beach, where Emile got us a bake n shark - a real 'must' if you are at Maracas.
Could not rate Emile's knowledge of the islands and generosity highly enough. He can arrange personal trips for days out or even your whole week if you want someone to dedicate trips and eco-tours to your own style. All for great prices too.
If we go back again then i will leave a week to Emile's choice, as he can show you everything that is amazing about these islands.
Thanks Emile, we loved our trek!

We randomly found Emile online a few weeks before our trip to Trinidad and Tobago and we were so lucky that he was free to spend a few days with us! He was the most energetic and well-rounded guide we've ever had!! Emile picked us up at the airport and we spent our first day getting an awesome overview of Trinidad. The next two days were spent doing the southern and northern loops, hiking, swimming, wildlife watching, learning about TnT culture and history, and of course eating amazing food!!
Besides feeling like things COULD NOT have been better with Emile as an incredible guide, we feel like we walked away with a new friend. Next time we are in TnT, he is the first number we call!!!

We went to Paria Beach and Waterfall Hike with Nature Trekking. The group included kids ages 11 to 17 and a few persons over 50. Emile is both the owner and guide and answered all questions we had via email and by phone. Sometimes he took longer to respond to the emails than expected as I imagine he would be trekking during the day but his website is excellent and has most of the info you will need.
On the day, he was on time and equipped with all the necessary items such as life jackets. He was quite patient during the trek as we were significantly slower than estimated times. We had regular stops to rest on request. The scenery was fantastic. He does personal tours so the experience was tailored with our needs in mind.
Cathedral Rock or Paria Arch lived up to its reputation as a sight to behold. Standing on narrow Turtle Rock looking down at the surrounding jagged rocks and then to the sea was an adrenalin rush. There Emile pointed out the hawksbill turtles surfacing every few minutes. Amazingly, Turtle Rock not only was a feeding spot for turtles but looked like a turtle from a certain spot which Emile took us to. The waterfalls itself and the natural pool into which it falls was nice and refreshing. We should have brought water shoes though as the pool and environs were stony. Just watch your belongings and we were lucky Emile was there to keep an eye on our stuff when we were in the pool.
We were glad to take the boat option back which arrangement went smoothly though the boat driver was not the most polite. Trinidad is not as tourist suavy as it’s sister island Tobago so expect some rough edges at times and take in stride.
All in all a great day. I will definitely book with Nature Trekking again.

If you want a good experience hiking in Trinidad, you must do it through this company. I had a great time going to Paria and the site seeing was breath taking. The owner of the company makes the trails more enjoyable with his high energy and friendly demeanor. Excellent experience-would do this again!

I strongly recommend Emile Serrette for your guide in Trinidad, especially if you are interested in hiking and nature. He took extremely good care of my family of three from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. He is extremely cheerful. He seems to know everyone on the island and has excellent connections to sites and attractions. Cumaca Cave was an unforgettable experience---for the intrepid, but fantastic.

My hiking group wants to take the one day hike to Rincon waterfall, I wanted to know approximately how long was the hike to the falls?

Can you please confirm if the hotel accepts packages prior to a guest arrival at the hotel? Also, is there a cost for this service?
