Prepare yourself well for this extraordinary hike. We left with a road opener who knew his route very well but was not a guide (he climbed the volcano in fangs with his machete .. but hats off at 62! ) if we had a problem he could not have done anything for us anyway. He had a purpose, to take us up the volcano. We set off from Richmond Beach, then crossed beautiful cavities to enter a lush jungle. The climb is gradual. Large steps make it possible to gain ground efficiently but not easily for fragile knees. You have to be fit, have water, a good snack and leave early. We crossed the last desert area with all its buried trees of which only the trunks remain, the last thirty abrupt minutes on a volcano edge are striking, a lot of wind that sometimes requires crouching and emptiness on each side...but the view at the top is breathtaking. The crater is open to us with all its fumaroles ... its shades of gray, tones ... its wind... magic. The descent of the volcano is not to be taken lightly especially since we had a windy shower but it quickly calmed down. For the descent into the jungle, many holes on the ground but leaving early in the morning we are more vigilant, it is nice to be among the trees and in some humidity. A tip don't go there alone flower to gun.. a priori there would be a simpler route but it's not the one we took obviously.
