About
Our most popular ride is the Nevis beach and trail ride which begins with a walk to the beach through an old coconut grove which was once part of Jamestown, the first capital of Nevis in the 1600's. Close by is Ft. Ashby, the first fort on the island built in 1650. Along the way, you will pass Nelson's Spring, a beautiful lagoon where clipper ships once filled up with fresh drinking water. We continue through Calhoun Estate where you will see Brahma cattle and in the distance, St. Thomas' Anglican Church, the oldest active Anglican Church in the Caribbean (1643). We then return to the beach at Beach Paradise Nevis on Paradise Beach, where we can see the beach at the Four Seasons Resort. From there, we turn east, off the beach to Paradise Estate, once a magnificent sugar plantation where you will see ruins of a sugar mill and, a little farther off, the magnificent estate homes at Four Seasons. Your ride then proceeds through the bush, near the Four Seasons world-renowned golf course. We ride past a typical Nevis home of the 1800's, made completely of cedar shingles, and on through the village of Cotton Ground, which derives its name from the production of cotton in years past. The people of this village are warm and friendly and you don't want to forget the name of your horse because the young children, who know the horses, will question you as to which one you are riding. As we make our return to the stables you will see St. Kitts to the west and the cloud covered Nevis Peak to the east. Just another beautiful day in paradise! Proprietors, The Guilberts, raised Arabian show horses for twenty-five years in California, USA before moving to Nevis in 1994. They opened the Nevis Equestrian Centre in 1996 with daughter, Erika, a trained hunter-jumper rider who conducted therapeutic riding, as a community service, for students with special needs from 1998 until 2009. Her students brought home gold silver and bronze medals from the Special Olympics held in North Carolina, USA in 1999 and from the Special Olympics World Games in Ireland in 2003.

A wonderful birthday surprise. Beautiful sunset beach ride along Paradise Beach led by Erika, who loves her horses and her home in Nevis. A welcome addition to your Nevis visit.

If you are traveling to the island of Nevis make it a point to go horseback riding with the Nevis Equestrian Centre. My husband and I were there 1 week ago and it was an amazing experience. I requested a private ride on trails and the beach and they delivered! Upon arriving we were met by the father/daughter duo John and Erika. They had picked out beautiful horses for us and helped us mount them. We were accompanied by an amazing (and very patient!) Guide named Jose and the Farm dog (which was an added bonus!). It was a wonderful way to tour part of the island and a dream of mine to ride a horse on the beach! Don't miss out~

I recently visited the island of Nevis with my wife for our honeymoon. This was one of the first excursions we planned and I'm so glad we did. Neither of us had ever been on a horse before but the staff at Nevis Equestrian Centre made us feel like pros.
Our tour guide was Onavis, he was very friendly, informative, and professional. This was a romantic sunset beach ride but also went through the village a bit and acted as a mini island tour, stopping at some interesting sites along the way to the beach.
We dealt with Erika before hand, who is also very friendly and made us feel comfortable on the horses.
I thought the price was reasonable as well. I highly recommend.

i was really not very impressed with the ride. it didn't last very long and the scenery was not very spectacular. me and my dad went, it was supposed to be mum but she was ill the day of the ride. he has plenty of experience with horses, having worked as a groom for an event rider in the past and i am an experianced rider too, owning my own horse and competing at a high level.
we went on the beach and the horses we so excited and frisky. so frisky that the instructor fell off! i didnt feel very safe after that so just decided to walk but the instructor began galloping so my horse as well as my dad's bolted and got out of control. my dad fell off whilst my horse wouldn't stop. it really was a disaster and i dont know what an inexperianced rider would have done! once my dad's horse was collected back up, we rode back but the instructor was not filling us with confidence by telling us stories of many other people who have fallen off previous to our ride.
although at least one good thing! at least the horses weren't slow steady dobbins! and they were well cared for too. my occasion may just have been a one off but i wouldn't go to this stables again.

We had a group of 7 with 3 of us riding for the first time. John made us all feel comfortable with his great expertise. The horses were very well behaved and the scenery was just incredible. It was the best experience I had on St Kitts/ Nevis in the 2 weeks I was there.

Had a very enjoyable beach and trail ride with a guide from Dominican republic. Horses were very well-behaved which is very important. One of our group had never been on a horse before, and she did great. Enjoyed riding on the beach and riding by historic ruins of the sugar plantations. This is a walk only ride--no trotting, cantering or galloping. Very safe and relaxing.

We received a booking for 10 riders for a sunset ride on August 29th. The ride time was set for 5:00 p.m. We requested that the guests to be at our location at 4:45 so that we had enough time to get them mounted in time for the ride. At 4:40 we received a call from the hotel that the group said that they could not be ready in time and wanted to reschedule for tomorrow. We already had bookings for tomorrow and could not accommodate them. The hotel agent passed this information back to the guests and they said to cancel the ride.
Every hotel and or agent has a copy of our cancellation policy and we rely on the hotel to alert the guests as to our policy. It is also listed on our website. In this case our policy states "cancellations for afternoon rides must be made in the morning of the ride for no charge. Cancellations within the hour of the ride is treated as a "no show" and will be charged 100%". This sunset ride cost is $80.00 per person. The cancellation fee was $800.00 for 10 riders. We charged them $400.00 or 50%.
We normally only take 8 riders per ride, however because this group had 7 out of 10 experienced riders we agreed to 10. With that amount of people we needed to call in extra guides to prepare for and conduct the ride, which is an added cost.
Sunset rides must be conducted on time as we never want to risk riding in the dark for the safety of our guests, horses or any other people or vehicles that could be present.
I have spoken with the hotel management and they said they will make sure that all future riders will have full knowledge of our cancellation policy.

My wife and I are very amateur horse back riders, the guides and owner made us feel very comfortable. Easy to tell the owners love their horses and their island. Beautiful scenery.

We couldn't have dream t of a more beautiful beach experience than seeing it on horseback.
John was so knowledgeable and engaging as he gave us historical highlights of the island all the while showing us spectacular views of Nevis and Saint Kitts. The combination beach, mountain and village trails were very interesting and gave us a peek in to the island culture. I especially appreciated John taking our family photo along the beach.
Hello... Xmas card 2014!
P.S. All should feel welcome to enjoy this activity
We were novice riders and felt very comfortable and in great hands with john and his staff.

We, two adults and 2 small kids, went for 1.5 hour horseback ride. Great adventure for all of us. The kids are 11 and 7 and did wonderfully with the horses. The staff was friendly, well trained and professional all around.
TIP: do it early in the morning or late afternoon, way too hot during the middle of the day.

Thank you so much for taking the time to evaluate your experience of riding with us. You suggested that we offer times other than listed in our advertising and you are absolutely correct. Actually we are very flexible with our appointment times and will accommodate most request. We will make an upgrade to our advertised appointment times based on your suggestion.
Thanks so much and we hope to see you on the trail in the future!

I am staying on St. Kitt's at Park Hyatt. Can you arrange a water taxi for 2 people on June 5th? If not, what is the best way to get to you?

Hello! The Park Hyatt has there own water taxi, so you would need to arrange it through them. However, you will still need to make a reservation with us at our website or our email to ensure we have that date available. Unfortunately we can not provide those addresses here. You can search the web for Nevis Equestrian Centre. Thanks for your inquiry and we look forward to riding with you! John and or Erika Guilbert

What is the minimum age for children?
John G
Charlestown, Nevis3 contributions
Hi, 6 years old to go out on a trail ride. If under 6, we can do a few minutes in the arena.
Reason: Young children still have soft skeletal systems and it has been our experience that young children should limit the amount of time they spend in the saddle until their bone structure is stronger. Our minimum trail ride is 90 minutes which is a long time for young children.
Thank you for your question.

We are staying at Four Seasons beginning next Sunday, the 5th, for a week. We would be interested in a sunset ride. There are four of us; me, my wife and two 13 year old girls. The teens are excellent riders. Is there available space? What is the cost? Can we go directly through you? Thanks! Reviews look terrific!

Hello Mr. Smith,
Yes, you can book your sunset ride for next week directly with us. All dates for the week of the 5th are open except the 12th. You can go to our website and make a direct booking. We do require a U.S. $25.00 non refundable deposit to hold your reservation. When you contact us we need to know the riding levels of experience for each rider and their choice of saddles - English or western. Our weight limit is 250 pounds. We accept Visa and MasterCard. You can also call us once you reach Four Seasons, however, some of the dates may be full by then. Sunset rides are timed according to the season and are always done at a walk. Right now our sunset rides are starting at 5:00 pm.
Thank you,
John

We are on Freedom Of The Seas ( Royal Caribbean ) and it says it's Port of Call is Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis. I am not sure what that means. Arrival is stated at 7:00 am and departure at 4:00 pm ...book listing. There are just 2 of us , unless we would meet others on the Ship, so transport may be an issue.
John G

Hi,
St. Kitts and Nevis are sister islands. Your ship docks in SK and our stable is in Nevis. I need to know what day you are arriving before I can tell you what is the best way to get to us. Your window of time is good. You can for sure take the local ferry and be able to get back to SK before 4:00. What we need to now is the date you plan on being here. Please let us know as soon as possible.
Thanks,
John

How would we arrange including lunch at Golden Rock , as I have read in some reviews? What is the total time the trip takes including taxi's , water transfers and horseback riding ( but NOT including the lunch ) ?
John G
Charlestown, Nevis3 contributions
As Jason W states, we first need to know which means of transportation you will use to get to Nevis and the size of your group. If you want to include a Golden Rock lunch we can include that as well. Once we know how many people and how you choose to get to Nevis (if you are coming from SK) we can give you a price. Our rides are timed for 1.5 hrs + or- 10 minutes, based on your skill level. You can reach me (John) at 869-662-9118.

Our cruise arrives November 16th in St Kitts. How much would it cost for two people, what are your times and how would we get to Nevis? Thank you.
John G
Charlestown, Nevis3 contributions
Hello, thank you for your inquiry. If you have a minimum of 4 it would very easy to get you to Nevis for your ride, as the taxis I higher work on a minimum of 4. However, for two people I would need to know your arrival and departure times so that we can check the regular ferry schedules, along with the name of your ship.
Thank you,
John Guilbert

Best way to get from Cruise ship to your centre?
John G
Charlestown, Nevis3 contributions
It depends on where your ship docks - St. Kitts or Nevis. If it docks in Nevis we are a short taxi ride away. If it docks in St. Kitts you would need to contact me for the ferry schedule - just google Nevis Equestrian Centre. We would arrange a taxi for you in Charlestown, Nevis. The holiday schedule maybe different from the normal schedule. Good luck!
