Erica - (apologies if I've spelt incorrectly) was our guide, expertly managing our slightly nervous 12 year old and excitable 8 year old. Instructions were clear and concise. The stroll through the community was surreal yet strangely natural with locals waving is by. Beach by horse was very cool! The views were awesome! The horses were disciplined with the occasional cheeky grub grab en route - added great value and great laughs. All round a great way to see the stunning island of Nevis whilst supporting the local community!

We made a reservation for a private tour. When we showed up, we found out we were riding with other people. One of the tour guides was apologetic and said he didn’t realize we had booked a private ride. He told us what the difference would have been between a private and a group ride, and asked us to speak with the person running the operation to see if we could be given some sort of recompense for the mixup. When we spoke with the person in charge, the only explanation we were given was that the people riding with us had cancelled their ride the day before because of the rain, but we were never told that our ride would turn into a group ride. She offered no apologies, just basically a “it is what it is” type of attitude. She just explained to us that the private ride would have been longer. The ride was OK. No explanation of where we were, nor of any of the history of the places we visited. We rode around the island ten years ago with a fantastic tour guide who explained to us everything about where we were. Did I mention we were charged about three times about as much as the locals who were with us on the ride?

The private reservation may have been overlooked but it was the same tour as the group ride. The "private" simply means you will not go with a group and you have to pay an extra $40 per person for the ride and you were not charged that extra fee. Our rates are clear on our website, which include regular rides, private rides and local/student rates. We do offer our local riders a discount as we are operating in their country. I apologize if you were not happy with your tour but sometimes we focus more on the safety of our riders and helping the children than pointing out the sites. The above was written by the tour guides. My observation is this. There were a number of emails back and forth and the private ride was overlooked. The ride was not written in our appointment book as "private", which is an error on our part and we surely apologize for that. Therefore, the fact that the two groups were joined would be normal if the guides did not see "private" in the reservation book. The guides were focused on the age of the children and wanted to make sure they were safe, therefore some of the normal conversation about the history, environment or social were discussed at a minimum. Safety is our primary focus. When you rode 10 years ago did the ride contain very young children? We operate in a country where the average net salary is US $25,428.00, according to the National statistics. The minimum wage is US $3.36 per hour. You paid $80.00 per person instead of $120.00 per person which is our private fee. The locals paid $55.00 per person. Of course we are going to give them a discount based on their ability to pay. Also when we started our business 25 years ago we received less than 1% local people to use our services. We are proud to say that number is now 20% and effective last month we increased the rate for these local customers. Our guide does not remember if she apologized but she did respond to your question about where the tour went. The private is not longer, it is the same ride but done privately, therefore you were given the non-private rate. There is no difference in distance or time. Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your experience with us. We hope you will return some time in the future so that we can give you the experience you were expecting.

I took my daughter and her best friend on a sunset ride. The owner was kind with the kids and thoughtful in how she arranged our group. Her farm is lovely and filled with fun animals you can meet while you get ready to ride. Try a private sunset ride.

This was my first activity upon arriving in Nevis. Not only did I get a workout, but I also had an informative tour of the island. This was a great way to start my vacation. My guide Erika answered all of my questions, and we chatted about all sort of topics. I got to trot and canter, so Erika listened to what I wanted to do. She recommended other islanders to contact for hiking / goat's milk / etc., and even loaned me a book. At the tour's end, I got to hold a lamb who had been saved recently and was being fostered by a donkey! That was icing on the cake.
