Our group of four booked a private tour and our driver was Waz. Waz is a smart, engaging, knowledgeable, and kind young man. The tour promises to take tourists around the island to places we would never venture to go on our own. It delivered as promised. Waz provided a great deal of history and insight into the culture of both Nevis and St. Kitts. Waz was great. The tour was great. I highly recommend it!

So those of you who read my reviews know that I rarely give anything a poor or terrible review. In fact, in many years, there is only 1 other I have written that was terrible. So, buckle up- you are in for a treat - and a rather lengthy review. So the New York Stock Exchange rule #405 basically says "know your customer". It's a great rule! As such it helps investment professionals give you appropriate recommendations BEFORE you invest. This tour is 150 per person. A vacation is an investment. Most of us have a small amount of time for the investment of a vacation. All that being said- when I go on vacation I want to have the most out of the time I have with the fewest surprises for the investment I am making. In all the many years I have travelled- all over the world- I can honestly say this was the most disappointing tour I have ever booked. The website looks great. Everyone is driving a cool looking 4x4 and seemingly having the time of their life. However, if you read the Q& A you will find there is a lot more in the details. I will admit I did not read this very well. That is my mistake. I own that part. However, I also believe that as a tour operator if you can e-mail me multiple times prior to my excursion, text me when you are running-in late and be actively engaging in communication leading up to the event you can absolutely and SHOULD ask me what I am expecting from this booking. Do you want me to feel I got what I thought I was getting? Do you want me to have a good time for the investment I have made? In all the multitude of communication we received not Once did anyone ask me if we wanted, for an extra fee, to drive our own 4x4. So with all that said- if you expect to drive a 4x4 or be a passenger with your friends in a 4x4- you are sadly mistaken. When you book this excursion you will find they come to pick you up in a utility truck and have you ride in the back seat. As such we declined to go, especially for the 150 pp they asked us to pay. When I called Greg he said, and I quote, " most people prefer to sit in the back and enjoy cocktails while our guide does the driving". If I wanted to sit and enjoy cocktails I could have sat on the beach at my resort and drank a lot of cocktails for $300 and had a great view at the same time. Save your self 300 and rent a jeep on the island for 100 for the day. We ended up doing that and got to see all of the island at our own pace. My husband drove and the license Greg refers to is only $25, not 150 extra. So as much as I would like to have said it was a great excursion, it wasn't. Greg if you read this maybe you need to follow NYSE rule 405- know your customer. Not everyone wants to drink cocktails in the back seat of a utility truck driving around the island. Maybe in the multitudes of communication you have prior to the booking you could ask if their expectations are to drive the 4x4, you could include the options, costs, and details for that. When we book and invest in vacations- we expect more than you delivered.

Based on the title of this review, I almost stopped reading, initially thinking that it was some kind of stock/bond “investment” scam, however I continued. I was confused as in my many years here on Nevis; I’ve never heard anyone categorize “vacations as investments”. Guests either tell me that they’re escaping from some inclement weather, taking a break from their day-to-day life and/or spending quality time with family & friends. They’re changing their latitude’s and attitude’s. They’re looking for a fun and safe time at an appealing location. You just don’t hear the “time is money” and/or “investment” thing here on the island – that kind of talk just stays back home at the office. But hey….. everyone is different, I guess! That said, the reviewer accurately points out that I actively stayed in contact via email and/or text responding to all questions and advising of any unexpected changes. The Reviewer also correctly states that she did not fully read all the tour information clearly presented on our website making her own “assumptions”. Instead, the Reviewer points her finger stating that I SHOULD have (somehow?) anticipated her questions and (somehow?) answered them back in advance. What the Reviewer failed or declined to mention and/or “inaccurately” stated is the following: We did NOT meet her in a “utility truck” but rather a current model 6-passenger Polaris CREW 4x4. This popular 4x4 vehicle along with Polaris RzR’s make up our fleet at Funky Monkey which is clearly shown and described on our website. Local Driver’s Licenses are mandatory on Kitts and Nevis – we sell them for $30 ($25 cost plus fees) - NOT for the $150 she states. This is also clearly noted on our website. The vast majority of our guests DO prefer to be driven around, not having to deal with adverse road conditions, off-road rocks and bush, wandering wildlife, crazy island drivers. Guests are on vacation..…most enjoy sitting back, learning about the island, enjoying the vistas and yes…..many adults also like our complimentary cocktails on board! And for those few guests that do want to drive - after READING our website, they ASK us the question and we accommodate them – it’s as simple as that! Our tours last a full 3-1/2 hours with a fun & informative guide together with a “bottomless” cooler of liquid refreshments. We along with the countless guests believe our tours are a great value; fairly and competitively priced at $150/adult & $100/child. In fact, many tell us we should “raise” our prices based on their experiences! We have been offering off-road island adventures for now over 13-years with 1,000’s of happy guests resulting in countless accolades, referrals and repeats. We don’t hide any details about what we do –there’s no “bamboozling, bait & switch, snow jobs or smoke & mirrors” – everything we offer is on our website or just an email/phone call away. Had this Reviewer actually “taken our tour” rather than the “investment” in her lengthy “buckle up critique”, I’m sure that she and her husband would have had a great time. OH, I forgot to mention (and apparently so did the Reviewer as well)..…after she waved off our tour guide along with our other patiently waiting guests that day at her resort, I offered her their own separate vehicle should they wished to reschedule – not surprisingly, I never heard back!

Our time with Funky Monkey Tours was a blast! The staff were super friendly and even offered us a no-cost reschedule for our tour as the weather was unfortunately very rainy. We however still went out in the rain and had a great time. We were setup in our own off-road vehicle as they made it easy for us to get a local license so we could drive around on our own too :) We followed Justin (our tour guide) around the island and stopped at various must-see historical areas and were given all the details of each landmark. A great bonus was being frequently offered beverages, which made the trip extra fun (we really liked the Ting drink). Can't recommend this experience enough as you see hidden parts of Nevis, and have a blast going off-road at the same time. p.s. even though we had fun in the rain, we would recommend picking a sunny day.
