About
Shadwell Great House is one of the last standing colonial plantation houses on the island. It has such a tremendous amount of history that it is simply too much to write here. There is currently an art gallery, cafe, yoga studio, acupuncture and trigger point therapy clinic and editing studio currently in the Great House.

It's a bit difficult to categorize exactly what Shadwell Great House would fit under because there is so much going. It would be a good place for a romantic afternoon but would also be good for families with young children, or teens interested in art. There were some people enjoying the cafe and reading, socializing and I'm pretty certain I even saw someone by them-self reading in a corner.
There's an ital (vegan) cafe with locally made food, I highly suggest testing this out, I consider myself a carnivore but had a fantastic breakfast and treats and there were no animal products in site.
There's an art gallery with some absolutely fantastic paintings on exhibit right now. There's even a resident artist living on site showing his own pieces at the same time. A different style of painting but fantastic nonetheless. He also provides painting courses.
There's a yoga studio upstairs with a certified yogi who is also a certified personal trainer.
I understand there's some kind of editing studio opening soon upstairs as well but I wasn't able to gather much regarding that.
To cap the wellness theme off, there's even an doctor of Chinese medicine's clinic practicing acupuncture/trigger point therapist/cupping and loads of other things. I didn't get a chance to talk to her as she was off island, but from what I was told she was whisked away to Europe to treat VIPs.
The property is her family's and goes way back. The history is just incredible, being one of the most important pieces of colonial history in all of the Caribbean.
The grounds are quite charming with a beautiful and colossal banyan tree as the focal point of the property right now but there are 3 or 4 fountains all over, probably 10 mango trees producing fruit and it seems like they were preparing to start a farm of some kind.
To make things even more interesting, the property was setting up for a wedding and there are so many spots to entertain at the house. I think it would be perfect for small concerts and weddings.
Quite an interesting place and well worth checking out!

I went to Shadwell a couple of times and each time I felt very welcomed. The landscape is beautiful and the house is charming. It's a really nice place to relax, have a coffee, take some yoga class, see art/painting etc. I recommend it!!

Restored plantation house with views of Basseterre & the airport. Delicious vegetarian food. Yoga also available & interesting resident artist, Tom Jones!

Beautiful historic plantation House. The only one like it in St. Kitts. A gem!
We stopped there for a delicious vegetarian lunch, I had an eggplant & veggie wrap, along with cold basil tea.
We ate on the varada in the balmy Caribbean breeze.
After lunch we thoroughly enjoyed the art exhibit of Daniela Batalla and other artists work. We even got to meet the resident artist, Tom Jones. Then we took a walk on the spaceous grounds with magnificent views of Basseterre and the South East peninsula.
Lovely, lovely relaxing afternoon.
A truly enjoyable afternoon spent at this memorable Great House.
I only wish I could have stayed for a yoga class!
