So we had a few minutes before boarding the boat, we decided to explore the town and went into the church. A police woman was sat there and mentioned we could go up the tower, so why not. It is probably not the best idea for you to do this activity if you cannot go up a ladder, as after a very narrow set of spiral stairs you need to go up 5/6 flights if very steep steps resembling a ladder. Once you reach the top, you are literally on the roof. A galvanized roof with a little parapet. We walked around the edges to see the view and it is a nice one over Basseterre. Again, do think twice before you decide to go up...

The church itself is quite interesting, but the tower is a must - entry is for a modest donation. It gives a superb view over Basseterre and the central mountains. We were lucky enough to visit on one of the rare days when Mt Liamuiga and the other peaks were all clear of cloud. The steps are quite steep, though, and the trapdoor at the top requires a hefty push.

The Society has sought to look after much of St Kitts heritage and part of this is this wonderful St George Anglican Church and graveyard just off the centre of town. The whole building and grounds are kept wonderfully and really are a delight to visit. There has been a church in this location for nearly three centuries but this version was consecrated in March 1859 and has been wonderfully maintained inside and out. Really worth a visit as it stands out for it's simplicity but also beauty. A classic looking church and bell tower.

We could only see this establishment from the outside as it was closed. One of the reasons we wanted to go was to understand exactly what it was. Suffice it to say that the grounds were well crafted and cared for. The character and architecture of the building was impressive. For some reason there seemed to be a policeman about the place - no idea why !?

Walked up to the church from the Cruise ship terminal and shopping area. reminiscent of many old English churches. War memorial and attractive stained glass.
When I visited there were pink ribbons decorating the pew ends for breast cancer awareness.

This was part of our drive by tour and we were given the history of the building. We stopped to take pictures since the building is so beautiful.

The exterior with the tall tower is quite attractive. The interior is kind of pretty with an interesting ceiling design. The altar and stained glass added to the appeal of this church. It is the nicest church in St. Kitts and worth visiting. It isn't a long walk from the Circus area and allows you to see what other parts of the city look like.

The massive 158-year old tower of St George's Parish Church is open for people to climb for a donation whenever there's a cruise ship in town. The reward for the climb is not just the superb view over Basseterre (St George's tower on its hill still seems the tallest building in town), but travelling through rooms of Victorian paraphernalia - weights and pulleys, a large bell and a huge antique clock which still keeps excellent time. And on cruise ship days, stately St George's is an island of calm, not often included in guided tours.

A very well restored Anglican church dating back to 1870. The original one stood here before 1700. I enjoyed the reverent serenity away from the hustle of downtown. It was like stepping into a church in England. they accept donations but otherwise free to see and pray.
