The narrow gauge St. Kitts scenic railway is one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. Originally built in 1912 to deliver sugarcane from the fields to the sugar mill in Basseterre, the "Last Railway in the West Indies" now provides a fascinating way for visitors to see the island from the comfort of modern passenger train cars and sightseeing buses.

The railway hugs the Northeastern coastline where spectacular vistas of ocean, surf, cliffs, and lush vegetation surround you. The train rolls across tall steel bridges spanning deep ""ghuts"", or canyons, and winds through small villages and farms. Dark green rainforests are skirted by rippling fields of sugar can, with the volcanic cone of Mt. Liamuiga rising above the railway.

This unique rail and highway experience allows visitors the opportunity to see the island in a very short period of time. Your guide will point out all the sights as the train passes old sugar estates with abandoned windmills and chimneys.

This tour sounds "okay" on paper, but was much more fun that we anticipated. We thought it would be a good way to see the north part of the island. We sat upstairs where the view is better but no AC. There is server on each car that makes you free drinks!!! Frozen daiquiris, rum punch, etc. (including frozen virgin... More

Forming the first part of a St.Kitts circumnavigation, this rail journey was both impressive and informative. Starting just outside of Basseterre the route follows the eastern coast to the northernmost point of the island with commentary most of the way and complimentary refreshment provided by individual staff on each carriage. As is the nature of the island, the journey is... More

This was a really nice way to see the island of St Kitts. We booked the excursion from the boat. It was probably a little pricier than it needed to be but we always expect that when booking on the ship. The trip started with a bus ride from the port through the city with a knowledgeable guide to the... More

The train ride was slow and a very informative way to see the island. They also offer a rum punch, water or soda when you are riding around but BEWARE we were sitting up front and watched the lady never add the rum to the drinks. She would uncover it when making drinks and then cover it up with a... More

Fantastic tour! We started with about a :30 minute bus ride through St Kitts. The driver gave us a great history of the island. We boarded the train and immediately were offered drinks and a great commentary throughout the train ride. Shortly after we left, my son was taking pictures with his phone from the open air second floor and... More

We found that the St. Kitts Scenic Railway was the best way to get a good sence of the island and it's history if you are running on a tight time frame. While on the island we also drove around the whole island with a rental car, but the views from the top of the train were definitly better than... More

We had originally booked a Zipline excursion for our cruise stop in St. Kitts (Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas) but my husband's respiratory allergies were pretty bad so we switched to the Railway tour. I'm so glad we did. Our driver for the bus portion was the ever famous "Mel Gibson"; he provided a great narrative on our way... More

This was an enjoyable way to see the scenic coastline of St Kitts ... First we took a beautiful Catamaran from the main harbor to our smaller port approx. 30 -45 mins away depending on the wind and weather ... We enjoyed our sail to our Scenic Railway starting point. The whole operation was very smooth and no wasted time.... More
