This historical building was a former plantation on the Island of St Kitts, Basseterre. We went on a tour of the house and also had a Caribbean cookery lesson of 3 dishes. Our guide Maya and Chef Shay did a marvellous, entertaining job, teaching us the history of the house and demonstrating the skills of preparing Caribbean culinary cuisines. There is a beautiful garden to walk around, rum tasting and a gift shop.

We visited as part of an included excursion on our Viking cruise. The curation is really well done & the staff are extremely friendly & knowledgeable. The gardens are simply beautiful & everything is labeled so you know what you are looking at. The bar is a great place to relax in the shade & enjoy local drinks.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We happen to be the only two in the class, so our individualized attention was super. But Chef Che was excellent explaining the history of the Plantation and the reincarnation of the estate. We can’t wait to get home and make some of the dishes that were demonstrated for us, then we consumed. She also does a rum tasting from Shipwreck Rum if you’re interested too. Overall a great experience.

We did the Rum Shots tour with Doreen. We learned about the history of Fairview from its start as a sugarcane plantation to the first bed and breakfast in St Kitts to its current incarnation. Then we stepped into the “conference room” for a rum tasting. In between tastings we learned about the history and process of making rum. Even my friend who doesn’t really like rum walked away with a bottle. Thank you, Doreen!

We did the culinary experience as an excursion with our cruise line. This was absolutely awesome!! I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in local cooking and enjoying a well orchestrated meal preparation class and great tasting food. The grounds and house were nice to see and the view of the Caribbean wan an added plus.

We did the culinary demo/rum tasting from our cruise ship. This is the second time that we've done a similar tour. The bus picked us up promptly and was clean and had good AC. The drive to the Great House is not very long. When we arrived, we were escorted to the demo area, which had ample seating and good views of the chef. It's not air conditioned but there were several fans and a breeze. The chef did an excellent job a preparing and explaining the food. There was also a guide that gave us an overview of the history of the estate. After eating, we had quite a bit of free time (maybe too much) before the rum tasting, which was also well done. Shortly thereafter, our transportation arrived to take us back to the ship. This was an enjoyable excursion,

The 5 stars are for Doreen. The best guide I’ve ever experienced, anywhere in the world. Did the house and rum tasting tour. Maybe if I’d spent a little less time rum tasting, I’d have had time to also explore the garden. Visited as part of a cruise excursion. Would love the rum cake recipe. Most delicious! Thank you Doreen. You’re wonderwoman!

The pod was amazing, the chickens lovely, the staff amazing and the home cooked food the best. We could not have been made more welcome and looked after better. We had a great time locally and enjoyed Tavistock. Salcombe and Kilnbridge were lovely too.
