In May, I had the wonderful opportunity to receive instruction from both Cathy Church and one of her very capable associates, Lisa Collins. My first course was with Lisa, followed by an enjoyable dive on Mermaid Reef. The next day, I had instruction from Cathy, after which we dove on Sunset House Reef. I wrapped up my week of diving with a course in Lightroom from Lisa.

I set my expectations high for these lessons and dives given the reputation of Cathy and her associates. However, my first-hand experiences far exceeded those high expectations.

As but one example, I suggested that Lisa and I work on an image of a barracuda captured on this trip. Lisa applied her wealth of post editing knowledge to produce “My New Friend,” which I will treasure.

When diving with Cathy, she pointed to a small black patch on the sea floor and suggested that I work on capturing an image of a sergeant major’s eggs. She expertly showed me how to best place my light and strobe, together with optimum aperture and zoom settings, along with being in close proximity to the subject eggs, to produce “Big Eyes.”

Without a doubt, I would have run out of air before capturing this image on my own!

My thanks to both Cathy and Lisa for their superlative instruction!

I am an experienced diver that took up underwater photography about ten years ago, but had clearly "plateaued" in my picture-taking over the past several years. My wife treated me to a private lesson with Cathy for my birthday. It was amazing! We spent some time in the classroom, where she showed me how to maximize the features on my Canon G-16 w/ a Nauticam housing. She then reconfigured my setup to include a strobe. She taught me the basics of lightening and positioning with the strobe. Then off for some underwater practice! We spent almost 75 minutes utilizing the classroom lesson – I quickly learned Cathy’s underwater “language” (verbal and grease pad), as she coached me on camera settings, strobe positioning, and setup of my subject. It was clear that I was an amateur working with a world-class photographer, but Cathy made me feel comfortable and enthusiastic the entire time. She clearly loves to share her knowledge and experience with anyone who is seriously working to improve their photography skills. The class with Cathy was something special, and needless to say, my photography is improving rapidly and I’m still working to master all that I learned in her lesson!

I've been taking underwater photos for several years, and as a SCUBA instructor, I thought I knew what I was doing. However, my shots never seemed to have that wow factor. So I figured it was time to upgrade my system and get something a little better.

When I bought my camera there 16 months ago, they spent over an hour with me just answering questions - and then I walked away to "think it over". The staff were very friendly, informative, and professional. And, there was no pressure to buy. Admittedly, I did some price checking that night on-line and Cathy's prices were equal to, if not better than, any sale price I found at various well known sites. Combined with the excellent customer service, the decision to purchase my equipment there was a no brainer. I won't shop for camera equipment anywhere else. Plus, they there's no need to.

More recently, I decided to take a course at Cathy Church's Photo Centre and really learn how to take advantage of my new camera after a year of trial and error and getting to know it. My instructor, Jim, was excellent and the tips and tricks he offered were invaluable - they definitely helped take my photos to the next level.

If you are even remotely thinking about getting into underwater photography, I highly recommend Cathy Church's Photo won't regret it.

Had a great dive and photo instruction class with Addie. I have taken classes with 2 other instructors that I enjoyed as well, but this was even better! I really appreciate her patience and knowledge, as a diver and photographer. I will definitely catch her next time I'm in Cayman. All the staff was helpful and pleasant, as usual and I especially enjoyed visiting with Tee.

We've had the opportunity to work with Jim Catlin twice in the last two weeks. He was extremely helpful and supportive with our camera issues. The last time I brought my camera in the on-off button was stuck with salt. The manual says to leave the camera in fresh water for 30 min. after snorkeling. During our visit, Jim told us to leave it in much longer in fresh water, and work the on off switch many times. Previously, we had turned the camera on a couple of times, but not several. So, we learned the hard way to leave the camera in fresh water longer than 30 min. and to turn the camera on and off many times.

I went 3 days with no under water camera and was giving up hope that it was fixable. We went to your store (I bought the camera there 3 years ago) and there were a lot of people in the store at once. I was on my way to the airport and was concerned that we weren't going to get help and that I would need to send it in to the company and it would cost $150 just for them to look at it. Jim was patient and fixed it in one minute. He was my hero that day-it worked perfectly after that! I had stopped at a dive shop the day before (when your store was closed), and the person at the counter told us it was a water leakage problem and couldn't be fixed.

We had really trusted and valued what Jim had told us previously so we waited to see what he thought. I was so relieved to have it fixed and off I went to get on my flight back to Michigan.

I wanted to tell you that working with Jim was a pleasure and I trust and respect his knowledge. It doesn't get any better than that!!!!!!!!!!

As an underwater photographer, I can't praise Cathy and her staff enough. I have been amazed at the level of knowledge if cameras, software and picture composition they have. They are always willing to go the extra mile to help with a camera problem even if you are not making a purchase. They go the extra mile to help you be a better photographer.

My wife and I just finished attending the 2016 Photofest. Highly recommended for photographers and videographers regardless of your level of expertise. My wife came back excited about what her GoPro videos could be turned into. This was from the excellent introduction and help from from Jon and Tony working with her after the dives.

If you are a diver and interested in u/w photography, the combination of Cathy Church's Photo Center and Sunset House with Sunset Divers can be beat.

My wife and I have been there 5 times already and are planning our next trip.

We found some great photos that Cathy took to take home and have framed. We had a really nice conversation with her while we were there as well. She is extremely knowledgeable about more than just taking pictures!

I took a 4 hour class (including dive for practical training experience) and was amazed at how much my photos improved.
I took the class with Jim. He was really good at presenting the course material and very good at answering my questions as they came up.
The photos that I took during the course were really good (all credit to the instructor and course materials).

This trip I took 2 courses at the Photo Centre. I got a new camera so after a couple of days with it and knowing what I could do I set up a course with Addie in advance and she took my photos to an entirely different level in a few short hours. maybe 1.5 hours in the classroom, then a dive, then back to the classroom to review the photos. Great experiencing great instructor! Then I took a class with Tony on Final Cut Pro to edit videos. Tony is great with any skill level with photo editing and I feel really comfortable editing videos now. We also bought a GoPro, housing, tray, arms and 2 video lights for it. The sales experience and service/advice is second to none. never buy an underwater camera setup from someone who has never used one. The people here have experience and can save you lots of heartache and lessen the learning curve for you.

Before coming to Grand Cayman, we had a GoPro malfunction, but luckily we found this place. We were able to rent a GoPro hero 4 for 4 days, for $140. It came with the GoPro, an SD card we could keep after, housing, a handle, and a red filter. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I've included some of my favorite pics I took with it.
