This was our second trip with Moby Dick Tours and it was a nice, fun time out in the water. The time went very fast, there’s not a lot of time with the sting rays or snorkeling. I recommend booking earlier in day so the water is calmer. I was a little disappointed as compared to our first trip with Moby Duck tours. They did not talk on the way out about the island or area and any directions were very brief. The crew only got squid out to feed the stingrays after I asked them about it. The best thing about Moby Dick Tours our first time was how well they fed and attracted the sting rays, and kept the sting rays by us. This time I got the feeling they were going to skip the squid entirely had I not said something about it. I also recommend having younger or shorter kids wear a life vest depending on the tide. Our 8 year old had a hard time standing since the water was just at chin level and with a little bit of waves it was easily over her head. With a life vest, it would allow us parents not to be juggling kids(and camera) that are just a bit to short and then the kids can just lift their legs and float if they get a little scared.
Our next stop was for snorkeling. This was the best part of the trip and we saw beautiful coral and fish. One of the crew got in and swam with us, he was excellent with the kids showing them different things he found. Whatever disappointment I had at the stingray site was made up for with the snorkeling, I only wish we had more time. We saw several other tour boats that were jammed packed, there were very few people on our boat which was nice not being crowded.
Overall, it was a nice time. I can tell the equipment and boat are due for some maintenance and I wish they would have given a little history of the area or better directions about the sting rays. If you’re looking for a tour boat while in Grand Cayman I would still recommend Moby Dick Tours.

My sister booked this tour and initially when she did I was disappointed. Boy, what a surprise when I had a blast! We were picked up at the cruise port and took a small bus to the marina. The boat was a bit older but still in good shape. Our tour guide William jumped in the water with us and went out of his way to show us lobsters during the snorkel part of the tour. This was a pleasant surprise. They also threw in fish food to bring the fish to us. Very cool.
Next, we traveled 1/4 mile to the stingray area. William again got in the water with us and held the stingray still so we could enjoy our time with it. He made sure everyone got their photo opportunity and was never in any rush. You can choose to stay on the boat if you wish but don't. It's amazing!
We did not book anything through the ship. We did it all on our own. We had plenty of time to get back to the ship.
I'd definitely go back.

We had a wonderful day in the Caymans with Moby Dick Tours! Everything went perfectly according to schedule. We truly enjoyed the staff starting from our van driver to our Captain and First Mate. So friendly, helpful and great conversation! I am a novice snorkler and our first mate was patient and informative giving me a quick lesson. Before I knew it, I was off and snorkeling! Such a fun experience, beautiful fish and gorgeous waters...I can't wait to do it again. Of course, the highlight was Stingray City. We've never seen anything like it! The stingray were huge and so friendly....they came right up to the guides like puppy dogs. Our guide knew exactly how to handle "her" and explained everything. From how he knew this was a female, to where to stand, where to touch and where to kiss her! They really took their time making sure each of us had a great experience with the stingray and each of us was able to hold and feed her with his guidance. This is an experience we will never forget!

The two of us booked this tour through our hotel concierge which she recommended. We were the only two people on this tour. Mark, our guide and driver picked us up at our hotel as scheduled at 9:30 am. We drove through Camana Bay then past Georgetown to our first stop at Smith Cove. Afterwards, we drove to Bodden Town for a stop at Beach Bubbles Soap Factory before continuing on to Rum Point. Next stop was at Starfish Point then we drove by the Davidoff’s Concrete Sculpture Garden.
Lunch was provided with the tour. We had a tasty lunch at Tukka Restaurant which had a great ocean view. After lunch, we visited The Blow Holes, the last stop of the tour. We were then driven back to our hotel. Tour lasted almost 5 hours and we got to see what the North Side and East End of Grand Cayman is like. Mark did a great job in providing a background on the island.

Thank you for your review and the detailed itinerary summary of our time together. It was a pleasure having you both on my tour. The lunch at Tukka is extra special as we sample anything you desire from the menu whilst enjoying the beautiful vista's across the lagoon. I try to cover everything Cayman on this tour, past, present and future and you go away with a complete knowledge of Cayman history and really see beyond the glitz of Seven mile beach.
all the best

We booked this all day island trip for a date we were at Grand Cayman off a cruise ship. Booking from the UK was not a problem, Mark and his team were super helpful and friendly, offering to tailor the day to suit our personal choices and wishlist. Mark is full of knowledge and facts as you drive around, not just your standard Spanish/English invasions and pirate tales, proper interesting stuff. At no point were we forced into shops for shopping we didn't want to do. Instead, we travelled the length and breadth of Grand Cayman, stopping at viewpoints and important places - including a very lovely lunch stop! Thank you Mark and team for a very, very lovely day.

We booked with Moby Dick months ago. When we arrived at Grand Cayman, we found Duncan with the Moby Dick sign. He then sneakily foisted us off onto a tour with Captain Bryan's instead. I suspected this was what was happening, but every time I asked Duncan, he dodged the question and rushed us along. It was very frustrating that he was not honest about what he was doing. While Capt Bryan's was fine, it was actually a longer tour than we had signed up for - it also included Starfish Beach, which was a waste of time and also got us back to port later than we had planned on, which was very stressful.

We had a great excursion through Moby Dick Tours, rather than booking with the cruise line. We had three tour guides--Mark, Zack and William who took us on a 30 minute boat ride to get to the sandbar. We loved seeing the stingrays up close. We didn't feel rushed in any way. After our long visit with the stingrays, we went to deeper waters for snorkeling. It was a great experience. If you have small children, be sure to bring a swim ring as the water is too deep for them to stand.

I was on a Carnival cruise but didn't like the price of some of their tours, so I went to trip advisor to see what I could find about swimming with the stingrays. This site suggested Moby Dick tours, so I got in touch with them via their website. Moby Dick did not ask for any money upfront, which is good as you never know who you are giving your credit card number to on a website! When we got off the ship they were wearing teal coloured shirts and holding up signs for Moby Dick tours. Our name was on the list and we paid cash on the pier. The tours meet on the pier at 8:30 and go out at 9:30. We were on a boat with 14 others as opposed to 50 or so on the boats the cruise ship hired.
Our visit to the stingrays was the day after Steve Irwin was killed by one of these creatures so a few of us were a little frightened. Our captain and his assistant explained everything to us and even the most timid person in our group had a great time. After feeding the stingray we moved out a little to a nearby reef and did a little snorkelling. The equipment was included in the price. If you want a personalized tour, go with Moby Dick. I had a great day with them.

My boyfriend and I stopped in Grand Cayman while on a Western Caribbean cruise. We reserved the tour online before we left home, and were happy to find that a credit card deposit was not required. Due to the unpredictable nature of cruises, we were glad that we wouldn't be charged if we were unable to make the tour for any reason. It was a short walk to the check-in spot from our terminal, which was very convenient. The one and only issue we had with the tour was that our boat anchored at 7am, and found that the tour would not begin until 9am. At that time though, everyone met at a designated spot, and we boarded a run-down school bus. The bus driver was very informative and told everyone on the bus all you could ever want to know about Grand Cayman. Make sure to sit near the front of the bus if you're interested in hearing all of the tidbits though, because the bus driver is not equipped with a microphone. After about a 20 minute ride, we were dropped off at the boat. The tour guides on the boat were also very friendly and informative, and gave everyone a tutorial on a ray's anatomy as well as how to safely handle them. We stopped first to snorkel at the reef, which surrounds the sandbar where all of the rays gather. The snorkeling in this spot was probably the best we have seen. There were numerous species of coral, and plenty of fish to see. The water is crystal clear! After about 45 minutes of snorkeling, we were taken to the sandbar to see the rays. Our guides picked numerous rays off of the sea floor, and held them so that everyone in the group was able to pet, feed and ask questions about them. After everyone was comfortable, the guides offered the rays to anyone who was interested in holding the animals themselves. I took the opportunity, and would recommend that everyone do so. It was a once in a lifetime experience! And don't forget to give them a little kiss...legend has it that if you do, you'll receive 7 years of good luck.

Is Moby Dick Tours still in operation? I noticed that there are no reviews after year 2020

How easy is getting off / on the boat at sting ray city? I have slight mobility problem.
Written January 8, 2019
Boat has huge ladders, more like steps, and one of the largest swim platforms. Boat is on one level so designed for mixed family groups with mixed abilities. If you can get on the bus to go to the boat then it will be easy. Crew are very good at helping anyone with special needs just let us know.

On cruise ship excursions they can guarantee your arrival back to the ship. I'm worried if I go with an outside tour I will miss the departure of my ship. How does that work with Moby Dick? Should I make reservations with you beforehand? or can I find you once I get off the ship?

Your ship is usually in for aprox. 7 hours and our tour is 3hrs long so it's not really an issue. We are aware of the departure times of ships after 15yrs of providing tours. To guarantee a place it's best to book beforehand.

Thank you for your enquiry. Most German customers like to go to the beach after the tour getting back is easy only 10mins 2miles cost $4 per head. We cater to small children, cost as per web site under 12's $35usd. The web site has a very good video "kissing a Stingray" that show's what will happen during the experience. To book go to the reservation form on the web site.

.. Which cruise ship were you on? And, what was the other catarmaran outfit you decided not to go with? (I am rethinking my own plans now that I've read your review) thanks so much for your help!

We were on MSC Divina, and were originally going to go with Stingray Sailing. They are a terrific company too, but our ship left too early for them to get us back in time, so they were kind enough to hook us up with Moby Dick Tours.

Can be different everyday depending if we have no cruise ships or 6 cruise ships and time of year, high season or low season
This past week:
Sun 35pers wedding group Tues 18pers Wed 15pers on am & 26pers on pm Thurs 22pers nothing till Mon 33pers Tues 48pers wedding group Thurs 24pers
I know people that were on the boat with say 15pers wouldn't of had a better time than when we have 35 as we make sure everyone plays with the stingrays kisses them and we help people take pictures with there own cameras. I've also had people on other boats, smaller groups come over to interact with us as all our people are playing and holding and getting lot's of interaction fun with the ray's and with our 3 staff. It's about the quality of a tour.
This is a question we alway's get asked it's a bit like do you still go to your favourite restaurant on a Friday night even though you know it will be busy? yes because it's the best.

We don't have a photographer as this practice by some operators is just a money making racket and I'd rather people develop there own relationship with these amazing creatures. On other boats people only get to hold the stingrays when they are having there photo taken so the boat can sell the pictures. I always feel sorry for them as they often come around our boat because we have so many stingrays. We provide food the photo boats don't want too many stingrays so they make more money.

my wife is somewhat handicaped and walks with a cane. She can go short distances without a cane.
she would love to get into the water and interact with stingrays, dolphins or wharever. I'm not sure
how safe it would be for her using a ladder on and off a boat, she can swim.
are there any tours that might be more accommodating for her, shallow water. I will be with her.

Thank you for your enquiry,
We have very large ladders some of the biggest on the sandbar. Best thing to do is go to the web site mobydicktours and check out the photo's of the ladders and watch the video "Kissing a Stingray" so you can make your own mind up if you consider this suitable for your wife.
