Five of us chartered a Leopard 384 catamaran for 11 days in January, 2020. Because I was the only one of our group who'd chartered a sailboat before, I myself did most of the planning and and had the most pre-sail contact with Conch Charters. I think I must have sent Conch 50-70 emails about the BVI, the boat, the costs involved, policies of the company, mooring and anchoring, etc. All of my questions were answered quickly and cheerfully by Ian, Mandi, Risika, and the rest of the staff. And there was no question they didn't have a good answer for. With Conch's help we were able to plan a very reasonably priced extended charter. The Leopard was available at the time we agreed to and was clean and presentable although it had just come back from a previous charter. We hired our check out skipper for a few days in order to help train crew members with modest experience, which worked well because I did not want to leave the helm station. We used the dinghy a lot and never had any problems with either the dinghy itself or the dinghy's outboard engine, which worked well every time. We had to "work with" some of the boat systems so my best advice is to listen carefully at the boat briefing, ask questions about anything you don't understand, and take notes. The only problem we had was not being able to locate the manual start button on one of the engines but we were close to Road Town and the chase boat was sent quickly. Except for some problems with the weather that we had to wait out, we had a good charter and learned a lot.

The service at Conch Charters has been consistently top notch over several years of charters. Not only do they take great care of arrivals, preparations, and departures, they have also saved the day with little problems completely outside their scope. For example, the time our luggage didn’t arrive till the next day and they managed to retrieve it for us. The boats are clean and ready for you to stay on the first night of your arrival. They are a bit older fleet, but that is why the prices are so much better than their competitors. That said, the fleet is very seaworthy and accommodating.

This time we took out a 44 foot catamaran with 8 people aboard. Everyone had their own cabin and head. We prepared many meals on board in the spacious salon. There was plenty of room with the forward outdoor seating area, inside dining table, and aft cockpit seating and table. Everyone had a wonderful vacation, some newbies learned to sail, and we are already talking about “next time.”

We highly recommend Conch Charters if you are thinking of chartering a boat in the BVIs. Their staff make it a personable, relaxed, friendly experience from the booking process to charter operations. They're quick to respond to any questions you might have. Their rates can't be beat. The same boat at other larger operations is much more expensive. We will definitely charter with them again very soon.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Of course now it is much easier to enter the British Virgin Islands as the protocols have been relaxed. Hope to see you again soon on our docks! Cheers, Team Conch

This was our first time chartering in the BVIs and since it was just the two of us, we decided to go with the Beneteau 32. We were the smallest sailboat in any harbor we visited, but it was just an excellent little boat for the trip. The Conch Charter crew couldn't have been more helpful in getting us prepared for the trip and in getting us off on our trip. An outstanding service was the chart brief when we told her what we were interested in and she gave us outstanding recommendations.

Will come back in late April next time to get the more moderate trade winds on a bigger boat.

Conch Charters is the BEST! It's as simple as that, but I'll try to say more.

This is not my first review of Conch, and it probably won't be my last. I've been chartering with them since 1990, when the company was basically Cindy, Brian a few dock staff, and 6 boats. Over the years, as the company has grown, their standards for customer service have continued to be phenomenal.

I really don't know where to start, but since we're talking about a sailboat charter company, I suppose I should start with the sailboats. This year's boat, a Jeanneau 409, was another example of an excellent Conch boat: It was in very good condition above and below, it was well equipped, and was very comfortable. One very nice feature when on a lengthy charter was the excellent battery performance. The addition of solar panels in the bimini made a huge difference and keep the batteries strong all day long on bright days.

But lets get to the important stuff: the people. Conch has always had very helpful and friendly folks in the office and on the dock. This year, they were clearly under extra pressure, as they were being asked 1,001 questions about COVID: protocols, transportation, closures, etc. Speaking for myself, I was flooding then with questions before and during the trip. Rasika and Ian, whom I already knew and liked, proved themselves to be absolute superstars. They answered every question with speed, expertise, and great care. They went to great efforts to help us work out issues with COVID tests, both to end our quarantine, and to get back into the US at the end. If I haven't said it already (and I know I have) they were superstars!!!!!!

The same goes for the dock/boat folks. Nelson, Ross and Jeremy were all very helpful at various points before we left, when we called with mid-trip questions and upon our return.

I can go on and on. After 30 years of chartering in the BVI's, I've seen a lot and hear a lot of stories, and the Conch stories are always positive. Having also chartered with three other companies, none have come close (2 were in other parts of the world, and one was in 1987/1988 before I discovered Conch).

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but for some reason we are not receiving notifications from Trip Advisor when someone comments. Strange. What can we say about your comments, but THANK YOU!!

We finally got to go down again after a long pause for COVID. After an exciting flight from San Juan (What a difference from Delta Jet to Cape Air (Pilot picked where we sat based on weight :-))

Arrived in the evening (We had a COVID Test on arrival but was pretty fast), Taxi to Conch to find all the provisions onboard (Ordered From Bobbies), yacht (Jeanneau 409) chilled on AC, and ready to go.

Next day social distanced chat/forms with the Conch team and we set off

The BVI was very quiet and imagine 3pm on a Sunday having one's choice of mooring buoy at the Baths or Coopers Island available after 4pm! With the start of the ferries I am sure will increase slowly and they are saying rules may relax by June which will be nice.

After the results of the day 4 test came through, our yellow flag came down and we got to eat out. Always check what is open when your planning your trip. Willy t and Bight are both open with others some nights only.

For a change we docked at the marina at Scrub island for one night, $140 fee but full use of the resort and restaurant. While I went diving the next day, my wife enjoyed the beach, pool and swim up bar.

Back to Conch for the walk to the hospital for our return to USA Covid test (Is annoying to have to do it but went fast and not so much hassle plus result came back in 24 hrs so no worries)

All in all, it was great to get away finally and enjoy the BVI again and can't wait to get down again. As always Conch are helpful and great to work with, yacht was in great shape and no issues.

We are so glad that you had a good time during your charter here. Wasn't it great not having to fight for mooring balls? We thank you for your kind words and look forward to seeing you back on our docks soon. Cheers, Team Conch

It has been a long, cold winter in Toronto and we were all looking forward to our sailing holiday in the BVIs. We had been there several times many years ago. The BVIs are difficult to get to in the best of times, but with COVID protocols, it was a very long trip. The fast ferry from St. Thomas was double the hour ride and the custom/COVID protocols were the must rigid vs. The US and Canada. We provisioned the boat but only 65% of the order arrived. Conch offers a free taxi to Bobby’s to finish the provisioning. The taxi driver never returned so after a lengthy wait, we ordered another pricy cab cutting into our sailing day and delaying another boat.

The boat we rented had ‘head’ issues from the start - both port heads smelled and one did not consistently work. On the first day, when we called in, Conch told us to return to base - we decided to run lots of water through the system to keep it going rather than forfeit a day of sailing. The boat was functional but tired. The doors on the interior of the freezer kept falling off. Many of the ports had not recovered from the past hurricanes- a vision of rebar and garbage. Everywhere we went, there was the price plus more. Everybody had an extra ‘fee or tax’ like they were making up for lost money.

The icing on the cake was when we returned the boat to base, Conch charged us $200.00 to pay for a head that never worked. They sent an undated, without time indication, a picture of a blocked head. Our friends, on the not so fast ferry, delayed, missed their flight in St. Thomas to Canada via Miami even though they allowed 5 hours.

Though the scenery was lovely and the weather warm, these little things pile up and put a damper on the holiday.

Thank you Anne Eastwood for chartering our SV Helia 44 for your recent charter ending on 15 February 2022. We were please on your return that you completed a survey about us and granted very good for everything except boat cleanliness and chart briefing for which you rated us as excellent. We were then surprised that you posted about you head problems plus it was unfortunate that you decided not to return to our base when requested to by us so we could repair and hence determine the cause of it not functioning correctly. All our heads are tested prior to charter by our technical turn around staff and our cleaners just prior to charter. It is unreasonable not to give us an opportunity to repair the head whilst you were onboard but worse to insinuate we would send a photo you of any blocked head whereas we sent you a photo of paper blocking the joker valve off the head off this yacht. Given the complexity of modern yachts you had no issues with the engines, generator, sails, rigging, lights, windlass, fridge, electrics, battery charging, dinghy and outboard, fans, air conditioning etc. we feel you had nothing to complain about.

Having to postpone our trip for over two years due to the pandemic had us heaping with excitement when we could finally make it happen!! And trust me it was beyond our expectations all the way. From arrival in Tortola and getting picked up by conch charters transport to the boat, facility and friendly staff. The staff was amazingly accommodating and helpful, the boat briefing and the attention to detail with our beautiful towel swans on the beds and custom conch charters run was a super special touch. The staff even helps you get out of the harbor on your first day before you are on your own. We were able to order the provisions, paddle boat and floaties to be directly delivered to the boat and conch charters has masks and fins to borrow for the duration of your charter. We had pretty heavy winds for the first couple of days which the 46 foot lagoon handled remarkably well, the boat was super spacious and had everything we could possibly need. We highly recommend chartering with Conch Charters and can’t wait for our next trip down to the islands!!!

We just finished our second bareboat charter with Conch. We couldn’t be happier. The boat was in great condition and we didn’t have a single mechanical issue during our entire 12 day sail. The staff is a pleasure to work with. They are always very prompt and courteous when responding to questions, even during these difficult and new times with all of the BVI government requirements. (They made it to be a very simple and informed process)
I highly recommend using Conch charters for your next sailing charter adventure. We will be back again soon for sure!

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but for some reason we are not receiving notifications from Trip Advisor when someone comments. Strange. Yes, the government protocols were quite something back in February. Thank goodness they have been eased and now it is so much easier to people to come and visit the British Virgin Islands. Thank you so much for your kind words. Team Conch

My family of four had our first 10-day bareboat charter with Conch in June. We chartered "Defying Gravity" a 2016 Beneteau 41. The boat was in near perfect shape and very clean. Our briefing with Jermey was thorough and we were on our way by noon the first day! We did the sleep aboard the night before and I highly recommend adding that to your charter.

Being our first bareboat charter, I had many questions. The entire staff was prompt and informative with the many emails I sent. Conch truly is a first-rate company offering quality boats at affordable pricing.

We look forward to our next charter with Conch!
