I decided to take Smith's Ferry Service to get from St. John to Tortola to visit a friend on the island. My arriving flight from Puerto Rico landed late and I wasn't going to be able to catch the last ferry to Tortola. Once I exited the airport I told the cab driver about my situation and he called the... More

Had prepaid reservations when we arrived they said they only had room for 5 of our party even though we had paid reservations fo 7. Ticket agent was rude and not helpful at all. We had flights to catch and she did not care at all. Even planning ahead and having paid reservations dare worthless on this ferry. Will not... More

Service was punctual. Crew greet us onboard with great smiles and happy lively music. On the way to St Thomas we were caught in a heavy rain shower twice and the crew work hard to keep the passengers plus move the numerous heavy pieces of luggage to avoid getting them wet efficiently. Thank you! We appreciate that!

Ferry service in Tortola is not limited to one company but they all seem to struggle with the same thing. Schedules seem to change a lot and being on time is difficult. If you're trying to make a flight in St. Thomas be sure to leave plenty of time. That all being said, these guys are as good as any.

We took the ferry from St Thomas to Tortola and back at the end of the week. Felt it was a little pricey and then all of the Ferry operators charge an additional $3/bag to handle your bags. Wish we had just kept our bags with us.

Took Smith's 2 times between STT and the BVI. While they weren't the newest ships, and were noisy on the inside, they always departed and arrived on time.

It was nice to sight-see while transferring from St. Thomas to Tortola. I would recommend. Just wear sunscreen as it is too windy to keep your hat on!

The boats are a disgrace. They are dirty, seats are ripped, the ceiling has holes were the insulation shows. The engines are noisy and the boats smell of diesel fumes. For tourist arriving for the first time the first impression of this ferry service must be enough to turn anybody off. Shame on you.

We used Smith's ferry from St Thomas to Road Town, then round trip to Anegada, then again back to St Thomas. The boats were clean and the crew was helpful. We were comfortable and it did not smell like diesel fuel.
