My wife and I took an ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising course on a recent trip with Sailing Virgins in the BVI's over New Years. What a wonderful experience! James and his crew were exceptional. His team handled all the coordination and details for navigating how to get to the BVI's (including dealing with the various COVID protocols), provided great insight in what to pack, and assisted us with planning our entire trip itinerary. The sailing instruction was phenomenal; the Captain / Instructor was patient, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. James is a wonderful teacher that instilled tons of confidence in us amateur's.

To paint a picture of a vacation that exceeds expectations - Day 1: An impromptu gentleman's race with a fellow boat to Salt Island to familiarize us with the boat and get a little re-familization on sailing. The reward was a sunset hike to the Salt Island Light, a toast of local beer, and a short lecture of the island's history....and again, that was just the first day!

What a fun way to combine a vacation in the BVI's and celebrations of the New Year all while advancing our sailing education. Days spent learning the course materials, putting them to practice as we sailed to the various destination points. Then afternoons of fun be it snorkeling, exploring, or enjoying the local nightlife. Then either we could escape off by ourselves or enjoy cocktails with the Captain over discussions of history, philosophy, art, or just telling good jokes and stories.

Thank you. We can't wait to book our next adventure!

My wife and I (in our mid 30s) sailed for the first time last year and liked it enough to start perusing certifications and further our learning to sail, so we signed up with Sailing Virgins because it looked like much more fun than just your normal sailing school and it definitely was!! We will for sure be coming back to Sailing Virgins for 104 and 114 courses in the near future. They made everything very easy by organizing all of us meeting up and getting the trip off the dock quick and as smooth as possible. Mike and Brenda manage the home base in BVI and were wonderful people and went out of their way to help us in any way necessary. The instructors were awesome not only in their sailing knowledge but also really fun to hang out with after sailing for the day. We had a great crew on board that all got along really well and made for a perfect trip and experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this sailing experience to anyone, you will get good sailing instruction and learning while having a really good time doing it. Thanks again to everyone involved and our crew for making this trip better than expected.
“Sailing...Virgins...YEAH!!!!”

Thanks,
Dustin

The Croatian intermediate course was easily the best week of vacation I’ve ever spent. The instruction was superb— our two instructors were young and energetic, but still had probably a dozen Atlantic crossings and multiple circumnavigations between them. The learning was tailored to each of the students on board (with plenty of opportunity to review or go very deep), and the instructors emphasized practice over isolated theory, throwing in practical tips, tricks, and stories from their extensive experience.

Cruising the Croatian Islands even without the instruction would have been a vacation in itself! The instructors were also local docents who knew all the most beautiful anchorages, swim spots, towns, and restaurants from multiple seasons in the area. They involved the students in daily passage planning, and tailored our on- and off-shore itinerary to the groups interests (and energy levels!)

Both the instructors and other students were young, adventurous, and all around interesting people (our seven souls on board had passports from at least nine different countries!)

I came away having learned way more than I could’ve anticipated, gained some confidence and miles under my belt, and had a fantastic tour of Croatia from a knowledgeable and responsible team.

10 out of 10 would recommend, and I hope I find myself (and some more friends) on future Sailing Virgins courses!

I simply cannot say enough good things about this trip! I recently did the BVI 101 and 103 course and had an absolute blast. I'm already planning my next course with them. This is a great company run by great people who are not only highly knowledgeable about sailing but also seem to really enjoy what they do. As someone who came into this with pretty much zero sailing experience, I feel that our instructor, Marco, did an excellent job of imparting a huge amount of knowledge in a fairly short time, and made it fun as hell! My crew mates were fantastic and we really came together as a group. The entire experience, from beginning to end, was the perfect mix of challenging adventure travel and relaxing tropical vacation. You will not simply learn theory and techniques, you will actually put them to use out on the sea every day. And the sense of accomplishment you get when you perform a technique correctly makes those beers at the end of the day taste even better (or Ting, if you prefer)!!
While you don't need to be an athlete to do this course, by any means, you should probably at least be in halfway decent shape. You also don't necessarily need to be too young either, just young at heart. If you are high maintenance, need constant pampering, complain a lot, or are just a general a$$hole who can't get along with people, please stick to one of the stodgy, boring sailing schools that litter the Caribbean. But if you are easy going and up for a great adventure with other like minded people, then you will not find a better trip than this anywhere.

We took BVI beginners (mar-22) and Croatia intermediate (sep-22) accomplishing ASA 101, 103 and 104 with over 14 days of total amusement and good vibes... I can't wait to sign up for a new sailing program soon. SV gives the best combination of fun and learning, giving everyone the chance to get the most out of the experience. Skippers are open book, locations are astonishing and friendship remains active with sailing partners we had the chance to met there. It is a highly recommended experience, don't think it twice!

Why is this course over already?!! Such a great time advancing my knowledge of sailing last month in Croatia! Had the best skipper/crew possible. Any unforeseen events were handled professionally and with minimal inconvenience to the course. So glad to have picked Sailing Virgins for our ASA 103/104 and will take further courses with them next year. Would like to mention their office staff who went above and beyond their job and made this course possible for us by adding an extra boat/skipper to our only open date this summer!

I completed the ASA 101, 103 & 104 courses in the BVIs and Sailing Virgins exceeded all expectations. It was hands down the most incredible week! Our instructor Oran was fantastic. He brought the energy, music, great cooking skills and was an amazing instructor for both the sailing and our morning Wim Hof routines. He ensured we all understood, and put into practice everything we needed to know about sailing to be successful, while keeping it fun. We were also so lucky to have Rodrigo join us. He shared his sailing experience and was all around a great person to have onboard! I highly recommend Sailing Virgins to anyone looking to get into sailing, continue their learning, or just want to have a fantastic adventure with the most amazing people. It's definitely a trip I will never forget and I feel so lucky to have experienced such an incredible week with everyone onboard.

We LOVED our class! My wife and I did an intermediate sailing course and both got our ASA 101 and 103 certificates and I got my ASA 104, all in a week. James really came through, making this class happen even when there was a problem getting a boat at their usual location. Even though I’ve been sailing my whole life, I still learned a lot. Kirill and Adam were fantastic teachers.

Highly recommended.

My wife and I just spent a week in Tahiti doing the Sailing Virgins ASA Catamaran Course with instructors James and Kirill. Fantastic experience, and exactly what we were looking for.

I have taken ASA coursework from a couple of different schools, but the Sailing Virgins experience stands out for a number of reasons. First, enthusiasm for the sport and adventure of sailing was high. The instructors were expert sailors in their own rights, but they also took the time to enjoy the moment, the scenery, and the local culture. We saw firsthand what was possible in sailing. James and Kirill draw on years of experience with these adventures, and I gained as a skipper because of it.

Second, the adventure element of a Sailing Virgins course can not be understated. This is not a package tour, with experiences carefully prepared. It was more like we went in search of adventure, and it fell into our laps. Let me give some examples - We carefully worked our way into coral reef passages and had a swim with sharks and rays. We docked alongside a local guy's overwater bungalow to stop for coconuts. We brought the 52 foot cat in to drop off our crowd at a fancy French restaurant one night for dinner in Bora Bora. We got up early to make passages between islands. We freed an anchor that was caught on an old mooring ball in 10 meters of dark water. We caught mooring balls under sail. We biked around the island of Maupiti, and ate a full 3 course fish meal in a local woman's home. We flew drones, snorkeled around coral reefs, and free dove under the boat.

Third, instruction was excellent and in the moment. James and Kirill modeled good seamanship, problem solving, and practice. They pushed us to do route planning, to navigate without the electronics, and to perfect our knots. Everyone on board took turns at the helm, at the lines, and at down in the engine rooms. I felt confident behind the wheel and learned the unique skills associated with running the sails and two engines of a large catamaran.

We looked at this trip as a vacation, but also an opportunity to see a different part of the world and consider our options for future cruising. It was all those things. We slept well, we ate well, we saw AMAZING scenery and met some awesome people. I'll be honest - I am a careful sailor with a few charters under my belt. James and Kirill gave me the confidence to go and do this again on my own.
