This is a slightly less than average beach. The beach is narrow in width, mostly due to rock and coral washing up. Wave action creates quite a steep drop once you’re 10-20’ into the water. Good for a swim but less easy to get out. Snorkelling on the west end was Ok, however sun bleaching is taking its toll on the coral. While it was not busy when we arrived, the crowds began coming in droves around 2:00pm when afternoon sun was full on the beach. Road access is a challenge over a rock/dirt track. It’s fine if you know how to manage it. Nigel is as laid back as others may note, and a nice change of pace!

Last time I went I saw sewage in the water and it stunk so I left straight away, showered and then went to another beach (Cane Garden Bay)

This beach has changed a lot since we last came. The coral has been damages so the beach is more challenging to swim in, harder to enter and exit the water.

Came here in a private taxi from a cruise ship (very difficult to get to) and roads were not brilliant. VERY HILLY and the descent down to the beach is quite steep.TWO beach ( so called) bars -as usual VERY friendly people and quite a good choice of beers and snacks for such a remote beach.Sand very deep in parts-and water sometimes quite rough (no good for kids). But let’s not get carried away.... there are no sunbeds or “rest rooms” and you are very isolated at this cove. NICE but... people don’t get carried away in yiur reviews just because it’s the Caribbean .

Visited here to try the snorkelling. The snorkelling was not really worth the trip, it is recovering from Irma, but not masses of coral or fish to currently see. Decided to rent a sunbed and chill for the day. Beach was quiet, beautiful with 2 low key (i.e. not pumping out music) bars. Despite being there when a cruise ship was in, it was not busy with the only cruise shippers arriving via taxi (and I think only 2 small groups were from the cruise ship).

The road to the cove is not tarmacadam and bumpy but accessible via a normal 2 wheel drive. It was not busy so you can drive at your own pace.

Worth a trip even if the snorkeling was not that good. Posted a few pics to show the reef.

Nigel’s bar is well know but now Patricia bar is added. We were there at sunset with no one else on the golden fine sand beach. Very special .

Expect to pay about $36 one way taxi for 2 people but it is worth it. Although it’s rocky (bring water shoes) it was not crowded on a Saturday morning (no ship in town the day we went). Nigel doesn’t show up till later (noonish when we were there). There’s a smaller bar nearby that opened a little earlier so If you go in the morning, bring your own water as it gets hot fast. 2 chairs + umbrella rental were $24.

Nigel was our favorite part about Smugglers Cove. He makes amazing drinks and is so accommodating! There are parts of the beach that are hard to get into the water because of all the rocks but if you walk farther away from Nigels there are no rocks and you can walk right in. Water is perfection!!

Visited Tortola from a cruise trip, a friend of mine recommended this place and now it’s my turn to recommend it others, great beach to relax, not busy as other beach area in the island, not the typical tourist area that is crowded, if you want to relax, this is the place to be, there is two small snack bar that you can grab food, I would recommend to try Bazz Snacks bar! there’s two nice and very friendly lady Geila and Patricia that will assist you, most of the review mention the other one snack bar but definitely this one is better in terms of service, price and food, they also offer free wifi! the other snack bar will charge you $3 just to use the rest room and charge more for everything. if you’re vacation in the island and staying for few days or weeks, it’s better to buy umbrella because most of the because either over charge you or doesn’t have enough one to offer.
