    beautiful quiet beach
smugglers cove is out of the way but accessible. calm waters, beautiful beach, very few people, and Patricia's beach food & drinks, Patricia's is right on the beach, with chairs and umbrellas for free if you eat and drink with them. it's like having your own private chef with you on the beach.

    Favorite beach!
Our favorite beach on Tortola! Must go! Quiet and beautiful! Coral reef to snorkel around- old plaques to find and read / learn about the reef. And Patricia’s bar / food is delicious! We are there multiple days under the trees and between swimming / floating / snorkeling.

Great beach but a little hard to get to which is good !
The reason this speech is nice is because it’s a little difficult to get to. It is dirt roads, but our rental car was fine. Oh I handful of people. The beach is gorgeous. Great swimming, beautiful aqua water. Two places to eat and rent chairs, but bring cash. Repeat bring cash no credit cards accepted.

    Great beach
We visited this beach when visiting the island on a cruise. The beach was very remote and authentic. We hired a couple of sunbeds from Patricia’s bar for $24 dollars and the bar itself is great and very rustic. If you want remote beach this is a great choice just a bit of journey but well worth it.

Amazing beach with crystal clear water and Nigel’s beach bar.
Amazing beach and easy to get to from the cruise port despite what others have indicated in their reviews. Taxi drivers will come back to get you at a prearranged time. The road to get to the beach is treacherous but that also keeps it from being too crowded. There’s a reef with good snorkeling and Nigel’s beach bar is great; yes, it’s a small hut but the food and drinks are excellent and so is he. Definitely recommend.

    Not so hidden gem
I hesitated to write this review and draw more people to this fantastic place. It’s a bit off the beaten path and the roads getting to it are “rustic” even for Tortola. You will be generously rewarded with a more relaxed vibe than cane garden bay, fewer people, and some of the clearest water I’ve seen in the Caribbean. There are a few beach bar&grills here. They are Cash only so come prepared. Reasonably priced for their location and some of the best food we had while on the island.

    Hidden gem of a beach
When visiting Tortola, everyone goes to Cane Garden Bay. Smugglers Cove is a hidden gem. The road getting to it is a little rough, but every taxi driver knows where it is. There are 2 beach bars there with chairs and snorkel equipment. You can get in the water and just chill or go either left or right of the sandy area to snorkel.

Expect to pay about $36 one way taxi for 2 people but it is worth it. Although it’s rocky (bring water shoes) it was not crowded on a Saturday morning (no ship in town the day we went). Nigel doesn’t show up till later (noonish when we were there). There’s a smaller bar nearby that opened a little earlier so If you go in the morning, bring your own water as it gets hot fast. 2 chairs + umbrella rental were $24.

A little off the beaten track lovely large non commercial cove with soft sand, two shacks for bars and simple food. I think Johns bar had a “site” toilet probably only 20 sunbeds on the entire beach.
Didn’t want to leave.
Real Caribbean relaxed feel with no hassle.

Very clean beach and water. We snorkeled here several days. While the coral appears bleached and for the most part dead, there were still plenty of fish and coral formations to see. The best point of entry is to the right of Patricia's Beach Bar. If you are going by car or taxi, drive past the first parking lot with the Nigel's Boom Boom Bar sign, but keep going about 100 yards further down the road. Be on the lookout for a dirt road where there is an opening and parking. This is also where the life guard is located if they are on duty. When looking out into the water, you will see the dark areas where the coral are. Enter the water to the right of the coral as it is quite shallow for a bit. Swim out keeping the coral on your left and you will soon be deep enough to snorkel over the coral. the beach is very open and few people. There are trees for some shade. We particularly enjoyed the food and drinks at Patricia's. Patricia and Bushman have a great fish sandwich and jerk pork and chicken. The rum punches and painkillers were the best on the island. Warm greetings and hard work from this little spot on the beach from Patricia and Bushman.

This is a slightly less than average beach. The beach is narrow in width, mostly due to rock and coral washing up. Wave action creates quite a steep drop once you’re 10-20’ into the water. Good for a swim but less easy to get out. Snorkelling on the west end was Ok, however sun bleaching is taking its toll on the coral. While it was not busy when we arrived, the crowds began coming in droves around 2:00pm when afternoon sun was full on the beach. Road access is a challenge over a rock/dirt track. It’s fine if you know how to manage it. Nigel is as laid back as others may note, and a nice change of pace!

This is one of the best beaches on Tortola. We went almost everyday during our week on the island and enjoyed swimming here. There is some coral underwater and floating in the water, so you must exercise care when getting in and out of the surf. All of us had minor cuts and scraps from a very rough surf the first day. The undertow varies considerably, so you need to be extra careful on days when it's strong. Most of the week, the water was warm with gentle swells and we spenthours in the ocean.

We rented chairs and umbrella from Nigel’s each day and had numerous drinks and hot dogs for lunch over the week. Nigel also has a very clean porta-potty, which he keeps locked for customer use only.

See Patricia and Bushman for phenomenal food, drinks and service that is unsurpassed. This little out of the way stop was the highlight of our trip so far. Gorgeous beach, there was a lifeguard on duty and it was not crowded at all.
