I had to wait an hour for a Natio al Parks Trust buoy: it was worth it. We moored in the SW field of Great Dog. It is an easy swim from the buoys to the reefs/boulder field. Lots of cool fish. Deep trenches cut through the rock at the NW arm of the cove. Lovely experience and after 1pm there was no one waiting for a buoy (after us) even in the busiest time of the year. Highly recommended.…

Whether you are a scuba diver or snorkeler, you will enjoy this stop on your cruise. Accessible only by boat, there is abundant sea life and many cool spots to dive. In fact, there is no way to see it all in a short time. We stopped for a few hours and barely touched the surface.

George Dog is rated in the cruising guides as a good beginner scuba site. It is all that and more. Pristine coral, unbroken spires vibrantly alive. Countless reef fish, gorgeous sponges; all in 20 to 15 foot depths. One hour of excellent diving, only cut short because I got cold. My only regrets were I did not take my camera and I only had time that day for the one dive. This reef area is virtually pristine. If you decide to try it, pick up a mooring on the western portion of the lee of the island. From there you drop almost directly on the coral. Our dive was a circle just north of the mooring and covered probably no more than 30 yards. We easily spent an hour in this small area due to the abundance of marine life.…

One of our favorite places to go as a family on charter is great dog island. The marine park moorings offer a relaxing place to snorkel with amazing variety. For the relaxed, you can snorkel near the shore which offers wonderful underwater viewing, for the bold, you can free dive under the arch located off the point in 25' of water (you probably need about 1 min. of air in your lungs to be able to enjoy the view). Overall, something for everyone which makes this a good stop when heading to or from V.G. Island…
