We rented a car during our cruise stop and had this on our list to stop because it was advertised as a little French Market. But that is the opposite of what this is. I compare it the Swap meet on Oahu. Pretty much if you stop at one tent, you will know what the rest are selling. Such a shame because the Plaza I'm sure is beautiful with out all the tents. There are some really pretty stone statues and features that get missed with all the junk for sale. Parking is chaos and stalls are TINY. We walked away with a fresh coconut drink and a few key chains. But I wish places like this would really stop selling mass made crap from China. We visit your islands to support YOU, not China!

The market had dozens of stalls, mostly having the same kitchen souvenirs. Bargaining is essential. In amongst the kitchen, you'll find a few unique artists selling their jewelry, paintings, or other craft items. Next to the market is a row of small restaurants - good for a cold drink or lunch.

We visit this every year when we come to SXM in Wednesday. We normally woukd give it a high rating but this year because of low tourist counts there were only a few shops. It is always a great place to pick up something. We have a t-shirt place of high quality that we always buy from and another place where we get sarongs and scarves thst have the beautiful French material but they are discouraged by the low numbers of people. Check it out next year!

Every time my family visits the island, we have lunch in Marigot (at least once) and then we wander through the market. It's a typical little tourist market, but its always a fun time. The vendors are very willing to make you deals and will work hard to make the sale! There is something for everyone in this market: shirts, dress, baby & children's clothing, hats, bags, crafts galore... Definitely worth a trip

Located in the center of the Marigot waterfront, this market is colorful and fun to visit, but there isn't much variety. Lots of cheap souvenirs, costume jewelry, embroidered cotton clothing and beach cover-ups. Sellers are friendly and will adjust pricing if you are willing to haggle.

Enjoy!

Marigot has a long way to go before it is back to the way it was pre-hurricane. Many empty buildings, debris around town, un-repaired roads, trash, & unsightly appearance. I'm glad we took a trip to see for ourselves because it's hard to believe. The tourist areas are doing better than the towns or businesses. It doesn't feel safe and the locals are not happy or friendly. Public restrooms smelled terrible. The workers on the ferry there seem hung over. The harbor area practically deserted. If we didn't need to take the ferry, we wouldn't recommend going.

I believe everyone should visit Marigot and the market at least once in their trip. It’s a beautiful area, so colorful, and great artists. It was slow season so not as many vendors. Only thing I really hate is that I can’t even walk past a vendor without them trying to talk me into things I don’t want. I understand it’s the slow season and they need to make money but I am more likely to spend my time looking at the shops that don’t do that and they are the ones that I end up buying from because I’m not trying to get away.

My wife and I had a quick stop off in the area as part of a larger island tour and enjoyed the opportunity to puruse the market stalls. The stalls are extremely colourful and you receive a warm welcome. Plenty to see.

In search of La Terrasse (above the mall), we chanced upon the market at holiday time. It was vibrant but the city was not after slow recovery from Hurricane Irma. Unlike the Dutch side, you’ll need to carry only USD or cash. Turning at the bridge in Marigot before Monoprix, you can also see rented watercraft from Rhino Safari (Cole Bay across the lagoon) piloted through the channel into the open sea. ATV or guided tours might stop here when shops aren’t shuttered. Otherwise, you’ll need a rental car if you want to pass through Marigot for a brief stop, on the way from SXM’s Maho Beach to Orient Bay.

Lovely market selling local goods. Great position It is held adjacent to the sea front. Don’t be afraid to haggle, we managed to get most items reduced. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby
