As another reviewer stated, basically a flea make with made in India and China trinkets. The spice stalls appeared local with a nice variety and very reasonably priced. While you are there, take advantage of the wonderful bakeries across the street.

Well I'll start with, we rode the bus which is affordable and safe from Maho to Marigot. Unfamiliar with the area, we wandered the streets of Marigot to find our way to the market. Limited sidewalks, drivers were courteous to pedestrians. So, the market itself was lined up with multiples of vendors squeezed together. Almost all were chanting $5 tshirts,... More

The market is more like a bunch of stalls selling mostly tourist trinkets and t- shirts. Very little if any locally made goods. There are some nice restaurants and lo lo's near by to get a good lunch. Some good shopping exists a block or two inland from the market. Many European clothing and jewelry stores.

Didn't see very much special here, except occasional trinket. But lots and lots of t-shirs, beach wraps, hats, crummy necklaces, etc. etc. (but no tube socks) Was hoping for something out of the ordinary, given French influence, but didn't really see it. Also was packed together; hard to circulate, even when there weren't a ton of people there. Frankly, the... More

St Martin is jointly administered by France and Holland so we expected more from this island than any of the others we visited. It was slightly better but with most of the Caribbean islands brochures only show the wonderful beaches and coves etc and not the poverty and ramshackle houses/huts locals live in. The market at Marigot is like every... More

Located on the French side of the island, the Marigot Market near the arbour is more active on Saturdays and Wednesdays when there are more vendors. The problem is that they are mostly selling the same things: bracelets (made in China?) and beach clothes (made in Bangladesh or India). If you have the money, you may buy jewelries in nearby... It seemed that there were lots of vendors but it seemed that most had the same things. It was they typical island stuff. We saw a few artist that had some unique things. Overall we liked shopping in Philipsburg better.

I'm not much into shopping, but my Norwegian cruise travel companion and I did stop here and got a few things for family at home. As an aside we paid $10 for Caribbean Reversible Dolls which at later ports went for $30! BUT the real attraction here was the opportunities for STREET PHOTOGRAPHY.

I just purchased a watch for My wife. I originally had gone to the Phillipsburg Front St. location and had negotiated a price ~10 % off for a Cartier(which is a good buy). I called on Friday and found out they were closed and that I could go to the Marigot location. The location is somewhat compromised in terms of... More
