From the initial email to saying goodbye to the boat as it dropped us off I was very happy with the service offered by Scuba Steves diving operation.

Initial communications were clear, responded too quickly and polite & friendly which gave me a good feeling for our day's diving. I'd booked independently with Scuba Steves diving as part of a Caribbean cruise and the explanations of pick up points / timings etc were spot on.

The team on board the boat were very welcoming, funny, and happy to help out wherever they could. The diving was brilliant and although it was a full boat, they had plenty of dive-team to make sure everyone was well looked after. The guides were great in the water pointing out interesting things to see and interacting well with divers to instill confidence and ensure everyone was having a great time.

Onboard between dives water, drinks and snacks were great - an unexpected and yummy bonus!

My only downside was that I only had one day in St Lucia to enjoy diving with Scuba Steve. I will definitely look them up if im back on island.

I am a certified scuba diver and wanted to take my mum who is a complete newbie. I emailed Steve's before booking to confirm I can join her and the instructor which was fine to do.

We stayed at The Landings which had its own marina and we were picked up by the dive boat as agreed when booking bang on time. My mum was very nervous but she had her own instructor Jonathan who was just amazing and calmed her right down and was chatting to her the whole way to the dive site.

We got to the first dive site and Jonathan kitted up for my mum and went through all the signals, what's going to happen, some basic skills like mask clearing and where we are going underwater.

You have to do a stride entry each time from the boat which mum was a bit anxious to do but the instructor and boat captain were encouraging her and she did it. During the first dive he was holding on to my mum the entire dive and felt very reassuring to her. He was always on the lookout for interesting things to look at and was always checking her air consumption for her and constantly checking she was OK.

The whole crew were good fun and definitely knew their stuff and the local topography and sites.

We had such a fantastic time with Steve's and can't recommend enough for a seasoned diver or complete novice.
We dived at Sugar Beach and at the base of the Pitons so they picked amazing sites.

Thank you Jonathan for the best experience!

I had a great couple of dives a few days ago having not dived for for over 18 months thanks to UK lockdowns. . We went down to the Anse Cochon region did a quick refresher and then did two dives. Dwight, the boat captain and Alvin and Vernessa were very good. With only four divers on board it was nice and relaxed. I had emailed beforehand indicating the type of diving I was looking for and listed contraindications.

The reply was prompt and assessed my concerns.

On the first dive I had the weights in the BCD and, after doing the giant stride was checked out for neutral bouyancy. All was fine and they took care checking I was comfortable before descending. The dive was great and some of my skills came back quickly.

On the 2nd dive we agreed to put the equipment on in the water. Again they were careful with me. I was more relaxed on the 2nd dive and had time to use my camera which had been waiting over lockdown to get these pictures. In the way back the atmosphere was good and Vernessa and I discussed pumpkins, octopus and Dennery Segment songs!

An added bonus was a prompt pickup at 9am and delivery back to the beach where I walked up to the resort with the sound of the steel pan playing.
Thst is a memory I will treasure.

Reasonably priced and a good day. Thank you!

The dive spots for St Lucia are in close proximity to the Pitons, in fact one of the dive sites is right in the shadow of the mountain, which provides a superb backdrop.
Most dives are fairly shallow, not more than 60 foot and located in a marine reserve. There were many schooling juvenile fish, which were very spectacular as they swam past but unfortunately we did not see one large fish of any species throughout our 10 dives. We did see 3 Hawksbill turtles though.

If I were reviewing the diving alone, I would probably assign 4 stars.
That’s the good news, now for the bad news.
We were booked to be in St Lucia from 10 – 28 March 2020, just as the Corona virus was starting to ramp up, and pre-booked for 8 two tank days. On our check-in with Shirley, the owner’s wife, I was asked to pay the remaining balance in full before diving had even begun. That should have been my warning of troubles ahead. In our 25 years of vacation diving we have always, without exception, paid the remaining balance once the diving was complete.

After the first 4 diving days, we had planned to have 3 days off from diving, and had booked an island tour for one of those days. Shirley, who was the only one in the dive shop the afternoon of that 4th diving day, tried to get us to bring forward our last 4 dive days and offered us some alternative dates. Only one of the alternative dates could have worked for us, but the dive boat was going to have 13 persons on board, which is a lot for their boat.
On Friday 20 March we received notice from the US State Department ordering all American citizens to return home. We managed to book a return flight for the next day, Saturday, via Boston, which under the ever evolving scenario regarding flight cancellations, possibly could have been the last flight home with our airline. We asked Shirley if we could have a refund for the 3 days we were going to lose because of our early departure and this was refused twice. Once home, I emailed Steve, the owner, (who himself ironically was stuck in the UK because of the virus) four times asking for a refund. Initially my request for a refund was refused and then I was offered an un-useable credit for the three missed dives. (Unusable because for 25 years we have never returned to the same holiday destination) and therefore the credit offer was of no use to me.
So my 2 star overall rating was because of the shop owners, their attitude and disdain towards the customer. There are other operators on the island, shop around.

Ok, so after your first attempt at a review was removed by Trip Advisor because you threatened us with a bad review if we didn’t give you a refund, I see you have posted the same rubbish again minus the threats. So now we will answer your points. Regarding paying up front; when we first opened the business, we used to charge people at the end of their diving. Unfortunately, after being caught a few times by dishonest people with dud credit cards and no cash, we had to start charging people in advance. You were fully aware of this when you completed and returned your booking form and paid your deposit, so why are you moaning about it now? In order to complete and return your booking form you are required to sign and date the form. In the box where you sign, directly under our Cancellation Policy there is a paragraph which says “I confirm the above details and agree to pay the balance due on arrival at Scuba Steve’s Diving, or in the event of cancellation, by credit card in accordance with the Cancellation Policy detailed above” When you return the booking form to us and we charge your 25% deposit, we reserve the spaces for you on our boats. Once this happens, the spaces are yours and we cannot sell them to other people, so when we are full to our licensed capacity, we turn other people away. We reserved 16 spaces on our boats for you on the days you requested. We understand that you had to leave because of the US State Department Travel Advisory and even though the contract that you signed with us clearly states “Please be aware that changing your dive dates at short notice may result in you being charged for the dives you cancel if we are unable to resell your places to other divers. Dives not taken are not refundable” Ordinarily you would not be entitled to any refund due to the extremely short notice of your cancellation. However, due to the unusual circumstances with Covid 19, like many other businesses in St Lucia (including Hotels) we offered you a 100% store credit valid for 18 months for the dives you did not take, even though contractually, we had no obligation to do so. We think this is both fair and reasonable. I am very annoyed by your 2* review as you stated if it had been the diving alone, you would have given us 4*. However, after receiving a deluge of emails from you and explaining what we have just written in our reply above, you finished up by sending a threatening email inferring that if we did not give you a refund we would receive a bad review on Trip Advisor. This is pretty much blackmail, and I am sorry, but we do not give in to this sort of treatment.

Communications with this company was very slow. I attempted to set up some dives prior to my visit to St. Lucia, but it was difficult to pin them down even though we had 5 divers. Even when we got to the island, communication was challenging. From our hotel, it was a 3 minute walk which was the best way to schedule our dives. When we were logging in, we signed a waiver, but no one ever asked us when our last dive was or how many dives we had. As a PADI divemaster, I never would have known it was a PADI center.
The prices were reasonable and the equipment was ok. They had shorties, which were great for keeping you warmer during the dives and they shuttled us by boat down the Pitons which was the best diving on the island. We did a drift dive on Superman's Flight which was a bit of a challenge for new divers. We were supposed to pick up some Discover Scuba people but they were a no show. It was a good thing because I do not know how they could ever have done that dive safely and enjoyed their experience. Apparently, the site was known for being inconsistent as far as conditions go. My 78 year old uncle who was a dive instructor in the 70s hasn't dived for a while. He had trouble descending and aborted the dive early. I thought a lot of one of the crew who, on the next dive, said that he paid a lot of money for a dive and he had Uncle Ron suit up again to try in calm waters. It didn't work out, but I was grateful that they tried again.
My group of divers have experience with different islands and are fairly good divers. Three of them lost buoyancy throughout the dive and we had to take care of each other while the divemasters just watched. They weren't very active with finding critters, like some other dive companies. However, the boat captain was very skilled with maneuvering the boat in the choppy waters and the dive crew set up our equipment in between dives. There was water to keep hydrated and some sandwiches and cookies for in between dives.
I don't understand why the reviews are so high because there were two other parties that dived with Scuba Steve at our resort. One usually dove 11 days of his vacation and he was so unimpressed that he only dove with them once. The other party had an equipment error on her dive and had to buddy dive to the surface. The regulator failed to deliver air during the last 10 minutes and she had over 1000psi left. Her experience and calm during this episode allowed her to resort to her training and safely ascend to the surface.
I would have loved to have gone out again, but I was not impressed with this company. I would only recommend them only because they were the only option so close to the resort.

Booked through St. James Club and our friends joined us for snorkeling. On our 1st day our group only required 1 dive master. Safety for divers was great, but our dive master had no desire to be there. Didn't show us a single thing on our dives, barely talked to us and didn't even give us a heads up as to what we might see. Our friends were snorkeling and the boat left them to stay with the divers and another boat passed by letting them know they had just pulled 7 Man-of-war out of the water and to be careful, we were not informed of any of this prior to getting into the water. On our 2nd dive we had a second dive master and the other one from our first dive. He was much better and our captain was telling us more about what we would see and showed us some of his photos. We were on our second tank and were told it would be shallow dive and we'd get 55 min and the other dive master was annoyed complaining how cold he was going to be. I came up from the dive with still 1600 psi in my tank! There was really no engagement, it was rush us out to the site and rush back.

Thank you for your review which I have to say is pretty much pure fiction. You booked 2 days of diving through your Hotel Tour Desk, on your first day of diving there were 5 divers and 3 snorkelers on the boat (2 of the snorkelers were your friends). There were 3 members of staff on the boat, 1 Captain, 1 Dive Leader and 1 Snorkel Guide. How you can say there was no interaction between you and the Dive Leader is unbelievable, do you not remember discussing your weight requirements, him helping you set up your equipment and joking with him about your Husband being a College Basketball player as he is 6 feet 9 inches tall? Last time I checked, this is interaction. Not to mention completing the paperwork and disclaimers. Your first dive/snorkel was at Keyhole Pinnacles. You were told about the 4 mini Pitons that are a feature of this dive site as well as the standard stuff like depth, duration, hand signals etc, and also what you were likely to see on the dive. This is the standard briefing we give on every dive and the inclusions have not changed since we opened the business in 2006. The second site that day was Anse Chastanet into Fairyland. The snorkelers were in the roped off snorkelling area at Anse Chastanet. How stupid do you think we would need to be to knowingly jump into the water when we know there to be Portuguese Man of war jellyfish there? These things are very dangerous, to Dive Leaders as well as customers, so why would we want to be in the water with them? It is VERY unusual for them to be on our Dive Sites and they are usually washed inshore from much deeper water by unusual ocean currents. The boat that told your friends about the jellyfish belonged to the Anse Chastanet Resort and they were clearing them from the water in front of their Hotel. The Dive Leader was the same person on both of your dives as he was the only one on the boat that day. This shows exactly how much attention you were paying to what was going on around you. In the surface interval several of the guests and the Dive Leader were together at the bow of the boat chatting and soaking up the sun, again, this is interaction. You stated that after 55 minutes on a shallow dive (max depth was actually 50 feet) you came up with 1600psi. In fact you didn't, you came up with 1100psi and your Husband came up early because he was low on air. I really do not understand why people like you write reviews like this? is it that in fact, you just like to complain about nothing?. My point here is, you booked 2 days of diving with us and according to your review, during your first day of diving we were so bad that you feel the need to give us a 2* review. OK, so if this is in fact true, why did you bother to come out with us for the second day of diving? You could have cancelled and gone with somebody else. It makes no sense at all if your review is truthful.

I just completed four days (8 dives) of diving with the crew from Scuba Steve's Diving in Rodney Bay. Don’t let the small size of the office fool you. This crew is efficient, professional and safety oriented. Every dive started with a discussion of the dive plan and review of signals. The first dives were in the Soufriere area near the Pitons such as Superman Flight, and during the dive interval we motored north to Anse Couchon North for example for the second dive. The most we had was 6 divers aboard and we picked up divers enroute from resorts on the trip south. The divemasters knew where the best features were located on each dive such as the tunnel at Rosemond Trench to and octopus’s garden at Anse Cochon. I completed my 100th dive with theses guys and it was a great experience.

We are a group of 5 divers 4 of which have dove together for over 10 years. We are on a cruise and we’re only in St. Lucia for me day.
Vernessa, Johnathan, Calvin, and Dwight were amazingly efficient, energetic, fun, and kind. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience which we did! The dive sites, Coral Garden and Devil’s Hole, were beautiful. The icing on the cake was Vernessa going above and beyond to bring our dive cameras to the port after we forgot them.

We are so excited to come back and spend a week or more diving with SCUBA Steve!

Dived here three days, 6 dives, quite good, water 27 degrees, visibility went on for ever. One dive a two wreck dive, good. Saw nothing exception but was good to get in the water again and get wet. Dive quide Quinton, funny and good leader as left us to ourselves until he spotted things we did not and although he was cold stayed with us as we did 1 hour dives. Boat driver also sociable. Shop provides a good snack during dives. Picked up from beach in front of hotel and dropped off there as well.

Scuba Steve’s / Dive St. Lucia provided a knowledgeable staff and went above and beyond regarding their customer service. They were accommodating as our plans changed unexpectedly and even returned our forgotten gear to our hotel without a charge. We highly recommend you give them a try.
