This is an amazing hiking and beach destination as others have written. You need to drive to Salines beach and then continue through the beach parking areas, going as far east as possible through the rutted road (paved in places) until you see a metal gate. Park the car and continue on foot about 2-300 yards/meters down a wooded and shady trail. When you arrive at an open area with a small wood bridge, you have arrived. You have to scramble across some widely spaced and wet rocks on either side of the bridge, but after that it's pretty smooth going. The trial is reasonably well marked until you arrive at the opposite end, at which point you should stay on or very close to the beach. The beach is quite amazing and in the early morning nearly empty. Bring lots of water and sun screen. The beach next to the parking area is excellent as well.

The desert/ocean/marsh scenery made this a fun two-hour hike. First, a tip: putting “Savane des Petrification” into Google Maps will not get you to the right place. Instead, it takes you down a dirt road that ends in a No Trespassing sign at a farm. You can see that the marshes are beyond the farm, but it’s a dead end at that point. Instead, use “Grand Anse des Salines”.
Once you enter the Salines area, veer left until the road becomes dirt (and mud) and bouncy. At the end you can park (bit of a mud pit). From there walk for about 10 minutes through a large encampment of tents along a muddy road and you’ll read the start of the trail: a bridge over the marsh. The bridge is supposed to get you to the hiking side with a series of rocks to use on steps, but (high tide?) I assessed a 10% chance of my successfully jumping from rock to rock without slipping and falling in. So I took off my boots and waded barefoot, almost waist-high, on the mucky bottom to the other side.
I hiked to Anse Trabaud and back, about 10km. Very few people. Lots of red land crabs, crashing waves, beautiful coastline and desert scenery. Beautiful. Only downside is quite a bit of plastic garbage washed up on the shorelines.
Anse Trabaud has its own parking lot. Completely empty. So maybe a better place to arrive and start this hike.
Afterwards, the town of Sainte-Anne was just 10 minutes away to find lunch.

We really enjoyed our walk along this coast, being on the Atlantic Ocean, it was rugged and wild.
As suggested in many other reviews, water, sunscreen and a sun hat are recommended because of lack of shelter.
To get to the starting point you need to drive left along the road behind Salines beach, veer left at the end, there is an information board here, then proceed along this road (cautiously, because of the state of the road) to the car park area at the end. Then on foot, you walk past a camping area, over a bridge and stepping stone area, from here follow the posts, they are numbered.

Very nice trip. Bring more water than us (1,5 l for 2 person) :D we went to anse trauband and back...

Great national park at the end of the road in Ste Anne Martinique. After the parking area, you need to cross a bridge over an estuary with slippery rocks at each end. The well blazed trail takes you along a rugged coast line with cactus plants. I didn't see any pieces of petrified wood along the trail but the information board had pictures of some. Access to the park is free

I liked that Savane Des Petrifications.
It was formed when the lava became cold.
Great mountain.
The ocean was wild.
Close to the petrifications was way better. We were protected.
The ocean waves kept on and go. That was fun!
A must see!

Interesting landforms, a good part of the walk is along the coast with good views of Le Diamond, the Atlantic, and the rather desolate landscape. Getting across the "bridge to nowhere" was quite an experience - it was easier to wade through the water except where the bridge is than try to negotiate the slippery stones.

We loved the savane so much! It was a great hike/walk, not too hard so perfect for kids or inexperienced travellers. Make sure to finish the path - the beach at the end of the savane is mindblowing

This is well worth the time and effort. The entrance is at the very end of the parking area for Les Salines beach. Make sure you wear shoes you don't mind getting wet because the path to get there is over stepping stones to a bridge and then more stepping stones. Once you cross the bridge, the path is well marked until you get to the end (well when you can't find any more markers!). The views are fantastic. Make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen as you will need it.

Trail to be revisited, we are forced to pass through the water to reach the other bank...but however there is a bridge in the middle...what is it for??...apart from looking pretty. ..very dry place to do early in the morning or late in the afternoon
