2021 Rhum Road - Distillery Visit 6 of 10

We visited on a holiday so unfortunately sampling was not available and the gift shop was closed but you could still do the usual free self-guided tour. As many wrote here this place is the hardcore industrial distillery - don't expect here the "elegant display" of Habitation Clement, a windmill from Trois Rivieres, or a colorful story from HSE :) this place is the "brute" amongst the Martinique distilleries and doesn't not pretend to be anything else - appreciate it thus what it is! The signs are in French and English which is a pleasant surprise as it's not as common as one would expect - the grounds aren't big but will capture your attention for a moment + with the sampling open I can see how someone can spend here about 1h to 1.5h of their time - our visit was of course shorter and I ended up buying later some Le Favorite rhum (not as easy to come by as you would think) - also I came across 2 different people praising the brand and their rhum in particular which is something I didn't expect as I took it at first for a "Cindarella" vs. other powerhouses... but it wasn't until after I read the signs here that it all made sense... "one of the last genuine, independent and still family-owned distillery in La Martinique" - come, visit, enjoy, there brute can be beautiful as well :) TIP: keep attention to hours of operation - they are a family owned distillery so they are closed on Sunday (most distilleries are open) and they only operate with reduced hours on Saturday

It's going back in time at least a hundred years. The plantation, close to the city, features hundreds of acres of fresh cane growing tall in the perfect climate. During the season of January to June, the cane is cut by hand and brought to the steam-powered crusher to extract the juice, which is fermented in large tanks and distilled in two copper column stills to create a delightful, fresh cane spirit - rhum agricole. In the aging house, the rhum rests in barrels to create exceptionally fine spirits. A tasting room and retail shop offers a chance to learn and buy these fine cane spirits. Close to the airport, easy to find.

We made the trip up to La Favorite before returning to our cruise ship and so glad we did! We were amazed that we could get that close to the actual machinery and see how the rum is made. Very interesting! The tasting room and shop were very nice, had a little taste and then purchased some rum at a great price. Highly recommend!

Wind up through the hills of Fort de France to find Distillerie La Favorite. There is no organized tour or even an organized tasting but a lovely young girl came out and encouraged us to try the rhums from average to sublime, in that order. Rarely, will a distillery offer you to ultimately taste a very old (expensive) rhum. It was quite an eye opener and we left with a bottle costing almost $150 in US, but half that in Martinique

super disappointed by the welcome. Their site already does not work. We arrive and no guided tour for individuals even though it is written in front of the store. No space in the parking lot. we have an hour's drive only to be told that there is no visit. the only good thing is that the bottle is beautiful but it is cheaper at carrefour.

You can take a tour of the distillery for free and the shop where it's possible to taste some of the rums for free as well :)

We first went to the Dillon distillery for a visit but were told that they did not do visits anymore, so we went to the La Favorite distillery instead (a 15-minute drive from Dillon). The visit is free and self-guided. The factory is small so the tour does not take very long (about 15 minutes even if you read the few signs). This is quaint. The factory is operated by steam in a closed-circuit (the sugar cane left-overs are burnt to generate the steam which powers the machine that crushes the sugar cane). Beware if you have small children. The tour is unsupervised, and the safety guards are minimal and rusty. Just don't fall off! Everything was fine when we were there, and the steam engine did not explode :) After the visit, we went for a free rhum tasting, and bought some chocolate truffles with rhum. Overall a good experience.

Stopped in for a tour before heading off the island. I loved the smell. Unfortunately, the machinery was down, but the people were extremely friendly. The tour is informal and you can go at your own pace. We were both surprised that we could get as close to everything, compared to many other factory tours. We were also delighted that English speaking employees were readily available. The offering of samples were more than generous. The rhum was also less expensive than retail.

Doesn't take long and certainly worth the stop.

I visited The Favorite end of November, which is a low tourism period that need to be considered for this advise.
Waouh the great property when arriving but forget it, that's not there, the factory like just at the bottom left.
Except some people working around, nobody to meet and no indication for the visit. Finally, a person asked, told us to visit by ourselves, so we started on the fly.
Few indications to understand these big machines. When reaching the cave a person came to us for explanation.
Then, driven to the office, we have been offered to taste different rhums and this was a really great experience.
Compared to more well known distilleries, it may look less appeal but in the mean time it is maybe more authentic despite the trace of modernity.
Beside this, it all free and rhum is good and quite cheap, but the oldest, compared to others.
As close and easy to access, the stop worth it if you pass around.
