This is one of the easiest beaches to get to on Vieques. On the weekends you might find someone working the booth and collection a fee to get to the beach. Weekdays we never saw this person! This beach is huge and has very calm...More

There were horses everywhere a wonderful area of grass you can picnic, the water felt great and there was a restaurant that smelt delightful maybe four feet away. It was fun

This was just your average beach. It looks like it might have been nice with good facilities at one time, but there's not too much left now. The bathrooms were open but not supplied with toilet paper. The showers don't work. There are no lifeguards...More

Sun Bay beach is one of my favorites because of several reasons: it has a delicious restaurant that does delivery on most days at the end of the entrance road (keep going strait) which has a restroom, has camping grounds, shade, horses all the time,...More

Such a beautiful beach. Water was calm. Ideal for swimming. It was fun to play on calm waves. It's just 15 min walk from biobay tours pick up point.

Hurricane Maria did cause a considerable amount of damage, but it is as beautiful as ever. Definitely a great place to spend the day and soak up some sun.

Hello, Sun Bay is on Vieques which is an island off the coast of Fajardo. I would suggest to take a flight...I used Vieques Air Link and was a 10 min flight only. The cost is very reasonable. If you decide to take a... More

Trip Report 3/8-3/15/2014 (16 Replies)
Just returned from a one week trip to Vieques. We absolutely fell in love with the island. We started planning and researching this trip about a year ago and are planning to return again next year with our daughter. (This year was just my husband, I, and another couple.) We are from the Pacific Northwest and it was wonderful to get away from the rain. Getting to the island was easy. We took a plane both ways via Air Flamenco. We had originally planned to do a plane on the way there and the...More

Great report, Heidi! You are so right about doing your research in advance. There are many people searching for the "old Caribbean" but I'm not sure they really realize that finding it (or as close an approximation as you can still find) means foregoing certain expectations and conveniences. Sounds like you had a fantastic stay!

Camping and Luggage Storage (2 Replies)
Hi everyone, My friend and I are coming to Vieques in a few weeks to experience what sounds like a beautiful island. We are staying at Sun Bay for camping, but we will be beach hopping and doing a bio bay tour during our time there also. Is there somewhere that we can pay to store our bags during the day / evening? I couldn't find any information about lockers, etc... and it doesn't sound like we'll really be able to snorkel and hit the bars if we're tied to our bags. Any advice /...More

i never really go to sun bay so im not sure about their accomodations. but if they dont have lockers, I cant think of any options. except maybe to try to make a deal at one of the bars or restaurants. but i doubt it. it would probably be too much of a pain for them. if you were storing your stuff once for the trip, id say you could find something. but a place to come and go, i cant think of anything as for the bio bay, if you use island adventures, im sure you can leave your stuff in...More

Culebra's better than Vieques (3 Replies)
Oh my GOD! what a awesome beach. I went to Vieques, to Sun Bay, but Flamenco Beach is more spectacular. it is more quiet and lonely, with just few people, and it is PARADISE, honestly....

More! More details! I thought about going to Culebra, but on the Internet it sounds like it's completely deserted like there is NOTHING there. Did you stay in a hotel? B&B? Rent a house? Were there restaurants? Galleries? Is there a shuttle between Vieques and Culebra? Do people actually live on that island? Was it very expensive? Sorry, I'm going in July and we're trying to figure out where the heck we are going to stay. Vieques is appealing just because I want to be away from the...More
