We had the best Bio Bay tour with Taino Aqua Adventures in Vieques at Mosquito Bay!
Glad we choose to go with their Clear (translucent) Bottom kayak!
It was the BEST and Definitely worth it!
Whatever makes the water glow on the evening of our bioluminescent tour had the water sparkling and shimmering. It was amazing! The water was glowing out of control! Perfect!
Our paddles and fingers, should you choose to dip your fingers in sparkled like crazy!
(note: water was only… waist deep. We could touch bottom with ½ paddle)
Enjoying sky watching with astronomy/astrology and local lore above! Gliding through the bay seeing fish, algae, and plankton below! The bright light of color they made was Awesome to see!
The guides spent the perfect amount of time pointing out constellations, schools of fish (so cool to see them GLOW and skip across the water)!
We were even lucky enough to spot a Ray with a nice wing span! So Cool!
It was like looking at Disney’s Fantasia but beneath the kayak!
We had a great time and awesome experience with Taino Aqua Adventures!

We chose Taino Aqua Adventures because of their full transparent kayaks. There are many companies offering the same type of bio bay tour in Esperanza. But the full transparent kayaks definitely make a difference.
Everything went very smoothly. We met our group at the El Blok hotel and took a short ride to the bay. Our guides were friendly, fun and informative. We went out on the last “good” day according to the biobay moon phase calendar and were able to see the lights clearly.
Mosquito Bay is amazing and we would highly recommend Taino Aqua Adventures.

Kevin was the greatest tour guide in our experience. He was super knowledgeable and was able to navigate conversations and the group in the middle of the bay with ease and mastery. Make sure to bring a lot of cash to tip him because he DESERVES it 👏🏽👏🏽
Transparent kayak all are the ONLY way to go with the bio bays. It almost looked like we were traveling through space. We booked our trip during the New Moon which allowed the brightest of stars to be seen from the water. It was such a magical experience.100% will do again.

The biobay should get 5 star and the view was unforgettable. However I won't recommend this company for the following reasons:
1 The tour was so short. You paid for a 1 hour and 45 minutes tour but the time on the water was less than 40 minutes (30 minutes' "kayak racing" and 10 minutes lecturing on the water). On top of time for the car ride, logistics and shoe cleaning (to protect their car), we were dropped at El Blok hotel back in town 20 minutes before the scheduled tour ending time so we basically lost 20 minutes that could have been spent in the water to enjoy a little more.
2 The tour guide at the first kayak paddled so fast for no reason and they require you to follow the guide. I felt it was like racing in darkness instead of enjoying the beautiful scenery of bio bay. For a moment our kayak was pushed to another direction by the currents and the assistant guide used flashlight to give us signals to turn back as quickly as possible. As you could imagine, you were forced to follow the group and move at a fast pace. We are young and we regularly exercise so this "racing" was doable but for some people this could lead to exhaustion or even health risks.
3 You don't have any free time or quiet time to yourself. Not even a second. Everyone paddled so hard in order to follow the guide. When we reached a point, the guide gathered every kayak and started lecturing us for very long. Our kayak was unfortunately at the middle position among all kayaks so I could not have much space to put my hand into the water to experience the biobay. After the long lecture, I thought they would let us stay for a few minutes and relax. But they immediately asked us to paddle back. Another race! The starry sky and the biobay were amazing and I was so disappointed that we were asked to leave in such a hurry.
We chose this company because of their full transparent kayaks. They may be the only company in the island offering this type of kayak. But The kayak itself has pros and cons. Pros are obvious since you can see from the sides and the bottom. But this kayak is thinner and lighter than the regular kayaks so it is harder to control and easier to flip in the water. So you need to think twice if this is worthy.
The tour guides were polite and they greeted people with sincerity. I should give them some credits but the tour itself was very hasty. In order to see the magic bio bay, a tourist has to fly thousands of miles to San Juan, drives an hour to the ferry, and then takes an hour's ferry to Vieques. To not even give the tourist a minute to enjoy the scenery is very disappointing.
If I would go again, I will look for another company, or pay some extra money to hire a private guide who can give me a little time to enjoy the experience. Even 10 minutes will be worth it.

Unfortunately our trip for 4 people never occured, which Jose A Rosa seemed perfectly happy with. I booked my trip on the Taino website several days in advance. To be sure I did the booking correctly, I called and provided my credit card number over the phone to Jose. Everything seemed fine so I expected no issues. I showed up a El Blok hotel at 8pm, 30 minutes early, and met two very nice gentlemen who were also awaiting the tour. They stated that they had booked the 7:30pm tour online with their credit card but were turned away because they had not brought their phones to show Jose their confirmation email so their credit cards could not be charged. Very bizzare aince no shows are charged 100%. As such they were not allowed go out on the Bio Bay tour at 7:30pm but had to travel back to their hotel to get their phones and book the 8:30pm tour. Luckily it was available. They had never thought to bring their phones on a kayaking trip.
Well, we didnt think to bring our phones to our 8:30pm kayak tour either. So because Jose and Taino didnt charge my credit card, even though I gave him all the credit card information on the phone 3 days prior AND even called 3 hours before the tour to make sure everything was ok, my family and I were turned away. Their poor business model of Jose and Taino isnt something you want to deal with so I highly recommend using one of the other very reputable companies on your bio bay adventure. Believe me, you will thank me!

Before you book this tour with them, make sure yourself that go to check the reviews with 1-2 stars that make lots of sense for you to understand their service. I went to bio bay tour on 15th April 2024 with this company, I would say I am far away from satisfaction. Long story short, their service does not show a fair and considerate decision making process. Because of this, I didn't see what other people see from my same group on that night. I won't recommend Taino if you go alone or doesn't speak Spanish, cost that 70 USD is not worthy, just go with a normal kayak, not the transparent one, you would see the same and get an even better experience, because the most important thing is the company's culture, attitude for clients and the SERVICE!

I really feel that the tour was very expensive when it was a full moon, it was hard to see the glow, we were 16 people with only one tour guide and it was very difficult to advance on the kayaking experience since not everyone had the same level of kayaking.
They looked very unorganized, I understand the full moon did not help but I even felt not secure with only one guide who claimed had lost a couple of kayakers. They should at least say that with the full moon is hard to see and enjoy the experience on a different way.

Had a spectacular night for the trip. Clear sky with no moon, loaded with stars and the bay was bright. The clear kayaks are magical and you feel like you are paddling across stars! I've done the tour twice, and really enjoyed Taino. I recommend the later trip, we never felt rushed. You really could see how the bay will light up differently in various sections.

We had a great time with this tour. Our primary guide was entertaining and informed. He did a great job highlighting local information about the biobay and all it entails. We were there on a night where the moon was particularly bright so the biolumenesence wasn't as bright. The guide and his team made a huge effort to find the brightest places on the water to get the most from the experience. I will also say that the Taino bus for getting to the bay was the biggest and nicest that we saw there. I was glad that we booked through them when I saw other groups piling into vans. With Taino, everyone gets their own seat. The ride down to the bay is rough, and getting into the kayak they (and ALL the other companies as well) have you walk barefoot through mud and then into the water to get into the kayak. It is not really for people with higher level accessibility needs. We had a great time though- our group was mostly younger adults at the 8pm timeslot, and it felt like a party. Thanks Taino!

I’ve done the biobay with a few different companies and this was by far the worst experience. Everything from the check-in to the actual experience was incredibly lazy and disorganized. The tour guide wasn’t keeping track of anyone, not calling out our numbers, one mother and daughter got lost and he started just fighting with the father about how it’s her fault for not knowing how to kayak and basically acting like he didn’t care and pointing out that the rest of the group was there. He sped off and told us to follow him but he went incredibly fast and there was no tour guide behind us to make sure we didn’t lose anyone else. He lazily explained the reason for the bioluminescence, repeated the same little script like 5 times and just generally seemed uninterested in having the group enjoy their experience. Most of the time of the tour was spent waiting close to where we exited because the bus had left to go take the 5 person family who had gotten separated and demanded to be taken back since the daughter was scared and crying. I feel bad for people that were having their first experience because of how poor it was. Maybe it’s this one bad tour guide but I wouldn’t recommend this company at all. Jak is a much better tour company.

Hi!
We booked for April 19 at 9pm (2 people). How do we make sure we’re confirmed? Tried calling a few times but unavailable to answer- as are the phones.
I sent a few emails as well and no word back yet.
Note that it is fully paid and waivers are signed.
Really excited to travel to Vieques to see the bio bay!
This tour was suggested to us by the fine people at Malecon House.
