The tour we went on was so amazing it's hard to describe. We were lucky enough to go just a few days before a new moon, so the bioluminescence was stunningly bright. The sky was filled with more stars than we'd ever seen despite a few patches of clouds. The transparent kayaks took the experience to the next level because you could see the lights streaming by below. Fish passing by lit up like underwater ghosts. The tour guides were fun and informative, but also imparted a deep reverence and respect for to bay. They shared the beliefs held by the Taino, the indigenous people of the Carribean, which lent a depth to our experience that we haven't gotten the previous times we've kayaked in bioluminescent areas.

Our family of 5 (including kids ages 12, 12, and 15) had a fantastic time with this tour! We all agree it was one of the highlights of our entire trip. I'm so glad we went all the way to Vieques, and I'm so glad we selected this tour. The group was a good size (not too large), the guides were fun, helpful and very knowledgeable about the history of the bay, fun facts and astrology. We got super lucky with a very clear sky, nice breeze, new(ish) moon and no bugs! The clear kayaks made for an amazing experience. Truly unforgettable. We spoke with another family on the island who went with another tour, and they were very "meh" about their experience. We could not stop raving about ours! Thank you Kevin and team!

Here's how it went: there's a website where you can book the adventure to the biobay. We met outside the El Blok hotel in Esperanza, and then got on their van and took us to the loading spot about 5-10 min away. They have the 2-person clear kayak (btw, not every operator use clear kayak, but I'd highly recommend you pick the operator that use clear kayak!) No shoes allow in the kayak due to scratching of the kayak that may affect your view of the biobay through the clear kayak. Life jacket is given and provided a quick instruction on paddling. You do get wet a little bit, mainly from getting on/off the kayak and the paddling. The tour guide provide great info about the bay and astronomy with his star-war like lazer pointer. The experience is unforgettable, once in a lifetime! Afterwards, we got back on the van and returned to the same spot where we were picked up. From pick up to drop off lasted about 1.5 hr. We did the tour about 5 days before the new moon, so there was no moon that night as moonrise was later that night, like 2 am. Definitely try to pick a date when there's no moon in the sky to enhance the glow of the biobay. Side note: I didn't feel much of mosquitos in the whole experience. Definitely wear swimwear and leave the fancy clothing at home/hotel. Wear sandals for easily taking on/off since no shoes allowed in the clear kayak. Camera may not work really well because your screen is brighter than the surrounding and you really can't focus on dark with glowing water. Phone with night function may be better.

Taino Aqua Adventures exceeded our expectations. Our driver/guide was super informative, good humored and entertaining. We went close to a new moon on a clear night and between the glowing water and star-filled sky, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and highlight of our trip. I did lots of research beforehand and picked Taino based on their overall positive reviews and completely clear kayaks - absolutely worth it and being able to see through all sides really added to the bio bay experience. Can't recommend enough.
