I am a tour operator in Puerto Rico and I got to Backwater and Clery with very high hopes because they were recomended as the very best, and indeed they were.

We were taken from catching the live bait, to handpicking each one and droping them in the nursery where they stay alive until needed, to explaining to my son how to fight the fish moving to the oposite side to finaly guide him in every one of the 4 catches my son did including a 90+ pounder that was taller and heavier than him.

The experience was awesome and my son's feeling of acomplishemet and proudness made it worth every penny and them some. Not only we left happy and with memories for a lifetime, but we became instant fans and we now recomend to all our customers to try Backwater and enjoy fishing they way its meant to be.

Thanks Clery for an awesome afternoon!

Had an overall good fishing trip. We got out there around 6, water was like glass and tarpon were rolling all over the place. Our Capt. Javier threw cut bait around the boat and within 45 mins we were hooked. We landed 5 tarpon, largest may have been 25lbs. Was a good trip with my boys. Only reason it wasn’t rated a 5 was the Capt was kind of a grouch, he had fished all the day before and even the night before to then guide us beginning at 6a. A sour Capt puts a damper on the whole fishing experience but we didn’t let it ruin it.

Captain Clery is one of the best captain I have ever deal with. The way he coach you during a 2 hrs fight, keeping you focus, paying attention to every single detail- angle, line, tension and boat direction was top notch. If you want good quality fishing and not quanttity this is your guy. I will come back soon, thanks a lot

This was my second fishing trip with Backwater Tarpon Fishing PR. Captain Clery is a great guide and knows where the fish are. We caught one large tarpon (around 40 pounds) and had a fun time bringing him in. I highly recommend Backwater Tarpon Fishing PR!

The night before my scheduled 1pm trip I received a text asking to move the trip up to 11am the following day because the mid day bite was good that day. I said of course. I packed up my 4 daughters for their first guided fishing trip at 10am and left the condo. Arrived at the dock at 10:45 and no one was there to meet us. I tried texting and calling to no response. At 11:20 the captain pulls in and says he needs to get bait and get the boat ready. After waiting an hour in the heat we leave the dock. The captain apologized and offered to give us an extra hour but having kids out for 7 hours without food wasn’t an option. We caught some fish and had a decent time but it was a total let down.

Great fishing trip with Captain Clery! All 3 of us caught our first tarpon and our son caught a second one. He was a helpful and knowledgeable guide and gave us our best chance to hook fish and very skilled at instructing to get in the boat. He was also very engaging and we enjoyed our time with him a lot. Would highly recommend.

Awesome fishing trip! The boat was clean, comfortable and stocked with plenty of water/Gatorade. The equip was in tip top shape and our guide/captain David was amazing! He was patient, gave clear instructions and we were able to hook up numerous times. He told us a lot about the area and was a lot of fun to talk to. Can’t wait to go out again!

The Captain insured that we caught a Tarpon. We moved several times until they started to bite and we caught several species of fish that culminated with a 100lb Tarpon. I would definitely recommend and will be usingBackwater again.

Went out with captain Alex in the afternoon trip, had blast, knowledgeable information about the fish, the system of water we were fishing and more regarding the Island. On top of that had a couple of bites and were able to put 3 fish on the boat. Highly recommend going out with this guys, they know what they are doing and how to put you on a fish.

We are a repeat customer!!! We are local to the island and have fished with Capt Clery in 3 occasions. In all our trips we have landed multiple fish with countless bites with tarpon flying out of the water. We will certainly go back for our 4th (and 5th) trip sometime this year
