In 2022, It was taken down by protesters but quickly restored and put back in place. It was made in the late 1800s from a canon taken from the British Navy after their failure to seize the island of San Juan. The cannon was taken to the New York were the statue was made. A copy of the statue can also be seen in Saint Augustine, FL, USA.

The plaza de San Jose has a large statue of Ponce de Leon. Juan Ponce was the Spanish conquistador who was so important to Caribbean settlement and of course the discovery of the fountain of youth!

We went on a bus tour it took about an hour or so, we stopped at alot of the attractions, and the tour guide had loads of information, all of this for only 6.00 a person. Great Deal, and we really enjoyed it, learned alot about Puerto Rico,

This statue of Ponce de Leon facing the fortress El Morro is a must see. Not only the statue but the history written on the statue. Made from cannon barrels added to its charm. A very clean area with no birds and only nice people and tourists. You look at Ponce de Leon and wonder what he would think of his Puerto Rico today.

This is just one of the many statues and historic sculptures that are located throughout Old San Juan.

It's majestic and gives it a little bit of history at the foot of the sculpture.

The sculpture adds to the cultural history and the charm and history of Old San Juan.

If you are touiring Old San Juan you will surely come upon this historic statue. When visiting the old city take advantage of the many local places to eat and be brave. Try local dishes we do and always enjoy them. Puerto Rico has a lot of wonderful chefs and many are hidden in small places along some very narrow streets.

This monument is little mecca in the center of a busy corner. We did not find any negative mentioned elsewhere. No pigeons and no vagrants.

Is nice and I like as much as the birds that sometimes rest in it. Just to look at it I remember Caparra, and all the things he did.

Knowing that the statue was done out of the Cannons left by Abercrombie in 1797 after being defeated, you see it in a total different way.
