“Nice but not as impressed ”
The younger crowd loves the plaza because of the many nearby cafes and pubs.

I originally came here in 1992. The plaza was under construction for the 500 year anniversary of Christopher Columbus's second voyage to Puerto Rico. There was not much to see then. When I visited this time, the plaza was complete. It was nice but I...More

Beware most of the reviews and all the pictures are actually of Plaza del Quinto Centario which is actually adjacent to Plaza San Jose. Plaza San Jose is a basic square with San Jose Church (currently under renovation) and a statue of Juan Ponce.

As part of your walking tour of Old San Juan - This stop in the Plaza San Jose is nice for a rest to see the totem and fountain. Plan on a quick stop.

Focal point is the beautiful tall totem pole. Not much in the area. Really dark at night. No lights nearby. Would go during light hours to appreciate the area.

Great for outdoor activities. Children love it. The only thing is that there is no near bathroom. Private Parking available.

We visited this landmark while strolling the streets of Old San Juan last week looking for a nice place to eat. The Totem Pole is a unique statue that commemorates the 500 anniversary of Columbus discovering the New World.

What's so nice about these older cities is the dedication to creating plaza's where the people could congregate and relax, talk, and meet one another, this one is especially special with it's monument for the 5 centuries and the Ponce De Leon statue for it's...More
