It is a nice area to swimm around. Note that many (smelling) boats might be disturbing, so take a swimm in the late afternoon when most boats are gone. You can climb a rope, sit on a swing, get to the fresh area pool (with water coming from the mountains, be aware, very slippery). Take a water resistent camera and have fun shooting Instagram worthy pictures.
There is a small beach with a restaurant where you can also rent a kayak. But don't expect anything fancy.

We drove up in our rental car and just wanted to swim in the lagoon. The touts pushing rafting trips ($50) were pretty aggressive. The area to swim is not very well-maintained or easy to navigate. There was trash strewn about and we ended up finding a little spot after wading around the side next to some huffed WD-40 cans. Romantic it was not. But the water was very blue, and the rapid changes in temperate from warm to cool was interesting.
FYI: Not that if matters, but this place has nothing to do with the movie “Blue Lagoon”, which was shot in Fiji. According to Wikipedia, savvy locals apparently renamed it from Blue Hole to Blue Lagoon to cash in on the association.

This was our first visit to blue lagoon, lagoon is crystal blue very idyllic and picturesque chance for great pictures. Local boats or rafts take you across lagoon we choose boat as we had already experienced bamboo rafting at Martha Brae.
Our boat driver was very friendly and informative about lagoon side properties and general area. We visited monkey island and had chance to relax here for a time. Due to heavy rain on horizon we cut boat trip short as it was very heavy shower. The rain did not ruin experience as sun then returned shortly and we enjoyed time at nearby beach.

Such a wonderful place and people who do not know what they have the water is full of boats. dirty boats , clean boats, bamboo rafts and a wall of hustlers a disgrace you are attacked as you turn on the little driveway to the blue lagoon ad guided to park on a garbage heap as you walk the 10 yards to the lagoon you are offered everything, you cant swim because of the fear you maybe run over. So sad Jamaica I hope someone will make a stand to protect this Beautiful place.

We went on a boat around the lagoon, cruised passed the homes of the rich and famous. We were well informed of who had been staying where and who lived it up. Waters were very clear and you could see turtles swimming amongst you. Cruised past monkey Island but our guide did not stop which was a shame as we would have liked to get out, which other boats were doing so, apart from that our overall experience was an enjoyable one

This spot has magical qualities... You have to witness to understand! Truly magical! I have visited this place for my birthday, with friends, by myself for some peace to re-charge, and every trip was just better and better. Some construction may hinder the experience a bit however once you get pass that a magical oasis awaits.

This place, I cannot completely explain the beauty of this place to you, you have to go see it. The water is like no other of blue it is. Be sure to pay someone to take you on a boat ride around the mountains have this amazingly calm appearance. You will be amazed.

Ive been here twice, once raining and today when it was very sunny and its just so beautiful, you should see it. There are a lot of fish here too so I recommend snorkelling if you can. When i came here the first time several years ago there where no seller stalls which there are now. Also ignore everyone at the top of the hill trying to escort/park you. The lagoon is free. If you want a boat ride then pay at the lagoon

WOW .... a wow moment. The Blue lagoon is a fresh water mixed with salt water wonder. We got on a raft with Anthony for $25 USD each and for two hours had a delightful ride as we had a few adult beverages. We were treated to the mineral pool then lazed and swam in the lagoon while my Cuz stayed on the raft chilaxing... great two hours on a Saturday afternoon

This was the very first time rafting. It was calming the water definitely brought some calm. We went across to the side bar and bought drinks and came back across. I must say the scenery is excellent. I recommend.

What's the cost for locals?

There’s no cost to go there. You pay for boat ride on the lagoon or tours around the area on a boat or bamboo raft. They will also take you to a small island where you can swim and hang out. If you want to see the area you will need to do a boat tour because you old have a small entrance which leads to a small spot where you can look at the lagoon.

It all depends on what company you use but it will cost you about $6-$8,000 Jamaican per trip which has two people. Normally last for about 3 hours

Are there options for collections from Montego Bay hotels: The Riu?
Or can anyone recommend booking service where I can arrange the rafting/tour in advance rather than just turning up?

Usually at the resorts there are tour operators or agents that could arrange these things for you before hand, however you can always show up and get a raft to tour the lagoon.

Just go there, you will find plenty of people offering a tour. We didn't take a tour, we just swam off the jetty instead

How much is the entrance fee & how much will it cost me taking a route taxi from Port Antonio to Blue Lagoon ?

A taxi is $20 US - but the local 'route taxi ' is only $200 JMD (about $2) each way. No entance fees at Blue Lagoon but also not much else but a broken down dock (no food available). Worth going, so beautiful! We were there on New Years Eve and went for a swim near midnight. Was awesome.

What is the cost for the blue lagoon boat ride or tour? Do you get to swim?

Not sure of the boat ride cost, but swimming is free. I wouldn't pay more than $4,000 Jamaican for the ride/tour though.
