They charge a $12 fee to attend this beach, but they do nothing to earn it. No effort has been made to maintain the area, removed seaweed etc. News flash, ignore that picture, add seaweed and garbage on the beach, and run-down amenities, and there it is.

What we found on this beach was a decadent scene full of rubbish. It was impossible to put your foot in the sand. We were charged almost 20 dollars to enter the beach, but with the scenery we found, we decided not to stay. I asked for our money back but they refused to give it back. We feel robbed.

Wider cove than it's neighbour Frenchman's Cove but also beautiful. Can kayak from shore to Money Island in 15 mins or so and to Blue Lagoon in 30/40. Quiet and unspoilt.

My partner and I visited San San beach at a local's recommendation in February which I sadly do not recommend. Admission for two was around US $18.00, and under the circumstances of its maintenance, it should be free. A positive is there is a decent restroom. We had the long beach entirely to ourselves, and the view is beautiful and water crystal clear, however, beachfront in Port Antonio, if not all over Jamaica, is privately owned, and San San beach is totally neglected and has been left to rot. The crystal clear water was filled with plastic and dumped food packs probably from cruise ships, that clearly had been in the water for months, not weeks or days. We spent about an hour and a half pulling all the garbage we could from the waters and making a huge pile back from the shore. The next day we discovered that our swimwear and shoes STUNK from the water, though fortunately the smell washed right out. There is a sea plant that grows densely in some of the water so, there is the possibility that the scent is from that rather than pollution, dunno, but anyway I can't recommend this beach in spite of the beautiful view and privacy. The sad thing is it could easily be cleaned up if the owners hired staff to do it and then maintain the efforts. I should also mention that its right across from Monkey Island, which makes me wonder about the water there too, and motor boats from nearbye Blue Lagoon go back and forth constantly to do a beachfront villa tour - which cannot be doing wonders for the water either.

Took the family to Portland yesterday and as expected all the beaches were jam packed. However having spoken to the security at one of the popular spot he told me about this little hidden gem. Sure enough it was quite serene. With not the huge crowd(price may have something to do with it) but well worth it. Well kept lawns for resting after a good swim. The only drawback is the limited selection at restaurant but bring your own food and have a blast. Will definitely be heading back there.

Went to the beach itself and stayed only briefly. The beach overlooks Monkey Island and Alligator Head and has a stunning view; there was an awful lot of trash washed ashore, however. Am hoping they work to clean this up, because it is a beautiful spot.

Very nice beach, long shoreline, shady areas, the water is clear and shallow for about woo metres out. The bar is not well stocked so carrying food is necessary or visit the shops nearby in Draper's. JA$700 entry per person and $500 per chair.

We got there early in the morning (10am - apparently early by the local standard:) and the beech was a mess - tons of garbage and everything else you could imagine just thrown out the sea. There were two local guys "working" but as soon as they collected the entrance ticket they resumed resting instead of coping with the trash... We left after 15 min as there was no chance of clean sand to put the towels down. ..

this beach could be so lovely, and in some ways it is. But Jamaica has a problem with TRASH. There are lots of sea urchins everywhere too. Bring sea shoes. Plus you have to pay for this beach.

Who owns the beach? Would like to know how I could make it more attractive by investing in some jet skiing and bring more attraction to the location. I am Jamaican/American citizen
