We left our all-inclusive resort to explore Ocho Rios. We stopped at the Champion grocery store to purchase a few things off resort, including Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. We came across this little shopping area and spent about an hour. Prices are a little better than resort shops - things are clearly marked up, but we were able to bargain a bit. There is one really nice shop selling linen items which are handmade in Jamaica. We purchased a dress and a button up shirt, both had handmade buttons made from coconuts. Much of the merchandise is similar to what you will find elsewhere, but there were also some unique things, making it worth the stop.

Stopped by here while on an excursion with no ships on port. Wanted to stop at Starbucks. Typical port shopping with some high end shops as well as some local merchants selling traditional Jamaican items. Jimmy Buffet's Margheritaville is on location and has a small patch of beach although not a real pretty view.

I shopped there 2 weeks ago and enjoyed the experience. I DO NOT like the markets and the hustlers so this was a pleasant experience. I would say they are moer expensive, but most of the items in the stores are not at the craft market. I paid around $13 US for tee shirts, and these were not available at the markets. Also Margaritaville is located there. I was not impressed with thier prices, selection and sizes. All that was left in men and womens tee's was smalls. And they were $22 and up. Not the best selection. Then, they charge 15% tax (for what reason, I do not know) and they gave me change in JA dollars. (Worthless to me) Anyway, that was my experience thought I would add one for this listing.

Very touristy. Felt very manufactured with no soul.
Mostly over-priced tat - items being sold are double or even triple the prices in the craft market or supermarket.
Nice ice cream parlour, Starbucks and a pleasant enough bar onsite - didn't get the name

I collect solid gold wristwatches and am fairly current on what is going on with and in the world of wristwatches.I priced several new watches at four of the stores. In every instance, the stated retail price was a whole lot more than what any retailer in the states would list...therefore the "discounts" were very misleading! In all but two brands I could actually acquire the same new watch in the states for less than their "best, duty-free" price. We also looked seriously at diamond bracelets for my wife. We are not as knowledgable about diamonds, but found that an honest, direct answer as to how much one cost was just about impossible to come by. We were looking at 3 cts on up and never felt anyone was being honest. Later, on the same trip, other people told us that Jamaica is NOT the place to buy jewelry. This opinion is about the jewelry shops at Island Village, and those shops only. When we return, we will shop there again, but only for a Paneri watch that I have trouble finding here in the states. Hope you enjoy everything else about Jamaica!

We visited the Island Village last week during our vacation in Ocho Rios, it is a nice place to shop I went because Margaritaville is located in there, the prices are very high in Margaritavill and they have the nerve to charge tax which was very annoying. The other shops were nice and you get somewhat better prices for items. We went on a Sunday and just a few of the shops were not open it was nice because no cruise ships were there, I know that when a cruise ship in docked it gets very crowded. I was also in walking distance from our resort the Jamaica Grande even though we got ripped off by a taxi who charge us $15.00 US round trip, PLEEEESE if you are staying at the Jamaica Grande Walk dont take a taxi or you will get ripped off. and to top it off he was late coming back to pick us up. Other then that I really did Enjoy Island Village it is a must see if you dont want to be hassled by the natives in craft markets.

I stayed in Ocho Rios with my husband and 2 boys in August 2003. Once we discovered the Island Village we were hooked. As we were self catering the Island Grill there was great for low cost decent food and if you are going you must try the ice cream shop at the beach end of the centre, the flavours are fantastic. We also used the cinema which was great. If you dont like being hassled this is the place for you, although we personally didn't find this a problem in Ocho, you just have to polite but firm. All in all, no complaints, would recommend it to anyone. Will gladly respond to any questions you have by e-mail.

While not authentic Jamaica, it has great ambiance and was a great place to retreat in the rain especially since it wasn't far from the cruise dock. We had a very nice lunch of jerk chicken sandwiches at Blue Runnings and got to feed the unique looking ducks my leftovers. My hubby also found a pair of Oakley’s for $30 less than we found in an outlet store in FL, but they did charge us tax. Very neat place to walk around in and a nice break from the taxi drivers.

This is advertised online as a lively Retail and Entertainment Centre. It is the first Shopping area you will approach as you leave your cruise ship. Be careful, because this is now an empty shopping mall, many stores boarded up, others just closed up and empty. The only two places open in early October, 2013 were 1) a jewelry store and 2) Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. There is absolutely no entertainment. You will see many shady looking characters lurking about, which scared me to death. All I wanted to do was to go to Margaritaville. Well, that was a huge disappointment, too. Online, they show you pictures of a nice beach, a swimming pool with a swim-up bar and a water slide. The pool was closed and full of scum and mold. Obviously, the swim up bar was closed as was the waterslide. Absolutely terrible place to go and I am amazed that Jimmy Buffet keeps his restaurant and bar there open.

Well I am married to a Jamaican Citizen and I fly in every month to see him. I have never been a fan of the tourist sites, but in this instance, I found it rather useful to spend sometimes with him on outings. First off, the place is not that great therefore I would recommend spending your money elsewhere for food and gifts at cheaper costs. Secondly, the General Manager truly believes that Island Village is something that she truly owns. Just seeing her in action, shows that she expects people to walk around treating her like she is the queen. When I go places I want to be treated well by the staff and not feel as if I am being tolerated. My impression is that the staff are a direct reflection of their leadership and she is not one. Regardless of your job you are equally important and if the management cannot see that then anyone that works there should quit and let her see what type of response that Island Village would get. Everyone is replaceable, and she should understand that this job is not permanent for her either.
I will not be spending my hard-earned money here not even for an ATM.
