Typical port shopping
Feb 2020
Stopped by here while on an excursion with no ships on port. Wanted to stop at Starbucks. Typical port shopping with some high end shops as well as some local merchants selling traditional Jamaican items. Jimmy Buffet's Margheritaville is on location and has a small patch of beach although not a real pretty view.

The definition of "tourist trap"
Dec 2019
We visited Island Village as part of an excursion offered by our resort. What a waste of time! This is a mall situated at the cruise ship terminal. Nearly every shop has the exact same cheap crap at a high markup. There is a Starbucks, a Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville along with a couple of smaller restaurants. I would recommend that you not waste your time here and instead find a different area to stretch your legs or look for souvenirs.

Great little outdooor mall
Sep 2019
This clean and well-kept outdoor mall was built not far from a cruise ship port, but not many tourists went there during our stay. We stayed 2 nights in hotels nearby and this little mall was a favorite spot for us. We went there for the restaurants, gift shops and coffee shop. Our first night in town was on a weekend in the shoulder season and the Margaritaville there was full of locals enjoying both the food and small beach which is part of the restaurant. There are a few restaurants in this mall that are popular with locals.

If I were coming on a cruise ship for part of a day and I had never been to Ocho Rios, I would not spend my day here when there are so many beautiful, natural locations nearby. However, if you are based on the island near this mall, it is worth a visit for a meal or rest. Public washrooms are spacious and clean.

Short walk from cruise ship if you can get past all the tour hawkers
Nov 2019
My hubby and I walked off our cruise ship, turned toward the island village then politely we had to turn down dozens of Jamaicans wanting to book us on tours, taxis, or transportation. First, I will state the Jamicans were very polite but very insistent. We have visited here before, so when I explained this is a return trip most responses were to book a tour to see what has changed since your last visit. Regardless, we were treated with respect so I did the same.

This cruise ship stop village has a few shops, a couple of restaurants, a Starbucks, nice shady walkway, and very small beach area (at Margaritaville). Found Starbucks where we had iced lattes, had the best wifi versus Margaritaville where we ate lunch, had the less reliable wifi. Took our time relaxing and soaking up the warm Caribbean vibe.

Something good comes to Island Village
Nov 2019
Island Village was expressly built for the cruise ship visitors. Just a short walk from the pier. Previous reviewers are correct. Most of the shops are pricey as all of the shops in any cruiseport. But they have added talented local craftsmen and artists. But bets of all, they have added Gloria's, a seafood restaurant, which was a Port Royal must do.The family has decided to expand the restaurant to other locations in memory of the family matriarch, Seafood was fresh and portions large. The list of sides was lengthy and we could have made a meal from them. Bar service is available. We chose to take our meal out on the deck. It reminded us of the good times at Fisherman's Beach where Island Village now stands.

Most shops are way overpriced but you can haggle a little. Very busy when cruise ships are in Port. Was a free trip from our resort and gave us something to do. Not a total waste of time.

Do not Go Here!!
Mar 2019 • Couples
Well I am married to a Jamaican Citizen and I fly in every month to see him. I have never been a fan of the tourist sites, but in this instance, I found it rather useful to spend sometimes with him on outings. First off, the place is not that great therefore I would recommend spending your money elsewhere for food and gifts at cheaper costs. Secondly, the General Manager truly believes that Island Village is something that she truly owns. Just seeing her in action, shows that she expects people to walk around treating her like she is the queen. When I go places I want to be treated well by the staff and not feel as if I am being tolerated. My impression is that the staff are a direct reflection of their leadership and she is not one. Regardless of your job you are equally important and if the management cannot see that then anyone that works there should quit and let her see what type of response that Island Village would get. Everyone is replaceable, and she should understand that this job is not permanent for her either.
I will not be spending my hard-earned money here not even for an ATM.

Avoid.

It is touristy, expensive, and not worth your time. The restaurants are mediocre (including a chain of Margaritaville), touristy shops, and a number of jewelry shops.

Small shopping area

Lots of little shops to pick up gifts to take home. Clean and not terribly busy when there are no cruise ships in!
