I’ve never seen a rainforest before so that was really neat. Worth the drive. However, I recommend taking a tour (see attached pic for Wynter’s/Keith’s tour guide info) that includes the drive through the rainforest. We stopped at a cafe with an overlook after passing...More
Fern gully is a nice drive through a little valley/canyon where both sides have been planted with a variety of ferns. The road winds through the canyon and you can admire the tropical greenery on both sides of the road. I am a big admirer...More
Scottie was the driver and Sandrea was the tour guide as we slowly drove thru Fern Gully to see and enjoy this lush area of Ocho Rio. As soon as we entered the area...it started to lightly rain and continued to lightly rain until we...More
We passed through here a couple of times whilst on trips, its just a long road full of different ferns cascading from both sides of the road. There is no where to stop to get out to take pictures so you have to do as...More
We booked a tour through MSC Cruises and this was part of our tour. Our driver only went up part way and then turned around. The ferns tower high above the road and form a tunnel like experience when driving through. Locals have some craft...More
There is really nothing to do at Fern Gully its just a dive through the area. If you like all sorts of different types of ferns and plants then this will be an amazing thing for you to see. Very scenic and pretty drive up...More
We went thru Fern Gully as part of our island tour. Basically drove 2/3 of the way up a canyon with tropical foliage on both sides, then the bus turned around and went back down. That’s it. Nothing much to see. Don’t waste your time.
This is truly something unique.
I was hoping to be able to walk the fern gully, but it's been turned to an actual road without a side walk (very rare anyway in Jamaica) - so had to see it from a car, but was still...More

I don't think that "walking" through Fern Gully is too feasible, as it is one of the main roads that locals traverse to get from Ocho Rios to Spanish Town and other locations along the way. Traveling through Fern Gully can be a hair raising experience becuase of the narrow road; and most traverse via vehicle. Walking is not recommended.
You may be able to find a few side spots to stop and explore the vegetation and plants, but not too many.
The way the vehicles speed through can be pretty unnerving for the faint of heart.
Nevertheless, with all of that being said, I am sure that if you engage a local along the way upon the road, you may find someone that can share some information on the vegetation that is found along Fern Gully.

Have good time in Ocho Rios! The round trip to Fren Gully will last about 20 minutes. A stop to look at local art( that is, if anyone is exhibiting) might add a few minutes. It is beautiful, but a very short tour. You might like to travel toward Montego Bay a few miles and visit the Seville Great House with quality museum exhibits. A few miles further is the Rose Hall Mansion where the story of the white witch is told.
