You get bombarded by vendors as soon as you get dropped off. If you do not like that type of thing then stay away. I realize that is how they make a living but sometimes they blocked you from leaving their shops. Not for me...More

Lots of shops with the same things you can buy. It's a shame that the Jamaican people do not own more business in this area after all it is there island. Nothing special here a tourist area not real Jamaica.

Do not pay the mark price, usually too high and if you start to walk away they will reduce it. Have to be strong willed or you will come away with things you don't want and certainly not worth the price.

1st time to montego bay. Aside from Doc's cave beach and Margaritavilla (very pricey), it's pretty much the same shops over and over. The vendors are a little aggressive, but stop if you politely decline. We just didn't find a lot to really see in...More

We stayed at Iberostar in Montego Bay which is about 10 minutes away from The Hip Strip. I looked up things in the area that were must-sees and The Hip Strip came up as one of them. This was one of the things I wanted...More

Is the HipStrip Safe? (5 Replies)
Heading to MoBay in just under 2 weeks. Is the Hip Strip safe to venture during the day as a couple? What are the attractions of the Hip Strip?

Safe? I wouldn't hesitate to walk it solo during the day, not at all. The attractions are shops and restaurants and bars and an occasional view of the sea. The negatives are folks potentially bugging you to buy stuff.
Havana Club in 'Mo Bay (4 Replies)
For those that enjoy Cuban cigars or Mojito's there's a relatively new cigar lounge and bar in Montego Bay right at the end of the Hip Strip two blocks from the Sandals Carlyle. It's called Havana Club. They have a extensively stocked humidor, they even have the new Cohiba Behike (all 3 cuts). The bar is stocked with every type of rum Havana Club (a Cuban Rum brand) makes except the Maximo. It's rather hard to find a Mojito in Jamaica but they make them here, and they use Cuban rum. I've...More

Any salsa dancing along with the mojitos and cigars? I'd love to find a place to dance while there!
tour guides and transfers (1 Replies)
Just got back from Montego Bay. We were a party of 12 with 4 children. I reserved Joe Cool taxi and tours for our transfer from the airport to our hotel and back. I did this before I left and did not have to put any deposit down. We had problems getting to Montego Bay because of mechanical problems with our airlines, that is another whole story, I called Joe Cool and let them know, they were there to meet us the next day as we got off the plane. Much cheaper rates and wonderful service. I...More

That is a wonderful report on your transfers with Joe Cool, it sounds like having the right tour guide/driver makes for the right start to a Jamaican vacation.
