If you are remotely curious about where reggae music was born or where Bob Marley spent his youth, you have to go to Trench Town. I contacted Sophia through the Trench Town Culture Yard website and she responded right away. I got to the Culture Yard by taxi from my hotel in downtown Kingston and Sophia arranged for her son Kash to give me a tour. You can choose from three tour options - I picked the priciest one (USD 30) that includes a tour of the Culture Yard and all the blocks of Trench Town. As a Bob Marley fan, this was a bucket list item for me.

This tour was awesome! Everyone knows and loves Bob Marley but this was a rare glimpse into what his life was really like in Jamaica that inspired his music.

We went on the short version of the tour. The guide made the experience visceral and personal. We got a new perspective on the meanings of various song lyrics, and the origin of reggae. Well worth it.

I do recommend going with a guide or driver.

We learned that this was the birthplace of reggae music.
It was a unique experience to walk the same paths and streets as Bob Marley and other pioneers of reggae.

We visited the Trench Town Museum and learned so much about the area, how it began, and how many legends it has produced. Our tour guide Durant Johnson was extremely knowledgeable and his passion and enthusiasm was contagious! It was really great to see where Bob Marley grew up and the neighbor that created such a special talent. Walking the streets and getting to see more of the neighbor is an experience that should not be missed. I highly recommend this tour.

The culture yard is a great place to come and learn about the community and history of trench town and all the reggae artists that originated from this place. The tour of the yard is quite interesting but what I found the most interesting was the short walk through the neighbourhood. You could really see how everyone knew eachother and cared for eachother and it was lovely to be able to experience that. Thanks culture yard for making it possible to visit.

We went here after learning that the Bob Marley museum was only open on Fridays. I really enjoyed the experience. Our first tour guide(sorry cant remember his name) was very knowledgeable. The "yard" is really authentic and you're able to learn a lot about Bob Marley and others who paved the way for reggae. I took off 1 star because our tour company paid extra for us to go to Bob Marley's house or something ... it's located around the the corner from the Yard. For this we walked with "stone man" This part of the tour should probably not be offered. There was nothing to gain from it

This was a very informative tour. Our tour guide, “Blackie”, was entertaining and informative. I learned quite a bit about Trench Town and all the artists that used to call it home. I would recommend the tour.

Had a great tour at the Trench Town Culture Yard. Very interesting, and informative, tour (sorry I can’t remember the name of our guide). Detailed information about Trench Town, and the early days of Bob Marley. A must see.
