This lovely park in downtown Kingston can (when not crowded) offer an oasis of quiet and serenity in the midst of bustling Kingston. Beware the huge (and I mean HUGE) statues of nude men and women with quite a bit of definition. :) Interesting sculpture....More

We took a quick walk through Emancipation Park. It was nice to read about some of the important people in Jamaican history and also see the famous statues.

Great place to spend time with family. Pictures do nothing for the actual scenary in person. The monuments are massive and beautifully sculpted

Convenient to most hotels for a nice 30 minutes walk. Interesting sculpture garden surrounded by flowering trees. be sure to investigate the meaning of the African symbols in the benches and fence.

Emancipation Day (1 Replies)
I will be on my honeymoon in the VIs from July 2 - 9. My bride and I are planning on watching the parade and the fireworks in St. Johns on the 4th, but are there any special activities that we should check out on Emancipation Day?

How will this celebration on Tortola affect our Jost Van Dyke vacation from Aug 4 - August 13th. Are there any must sees that we should try to head over for and what will the ferries be like during that time?

Frozen Food in Carry-on or Checked Bags (9 Replies)
I'm flying to ELH from FLL on Emancipation Day. I realize that the grocery stores will be closed and some restaurants may be closed as well when I arrive. I would like to bring a small amount of food provisions with me to tide me and the family over until Tuesday when the stores reopen. Has anyone tried to carry-on frozen meat (they will be packed in closed cell ice packs in a small soft sided cooler or bookbag) or dried food stores? What about in checked bags? Will the TSA allow these items...More

We have packed frozen meat (only) in soft-sided cooler bags, inside checked luggage. No problems with TSA or Bahamas customs. If you are staying where there is a property manager, s/he might do you the favor of getting in a few staples to help tide you over.
