From Montego Bay by tour bus, it took approximately 2 1/2 hours to get there. We went to the Black River first. The roads are extremely bumpy, windy, and only one lane in some spots due to road construction. The lunch at the Estate was...More
The facility tour at Appleton was very interesting and engaging. We were part of a large group and I would have liked to do the VIP experience to get a closer look and additional tasting. I enjoyed the welcome cocktail and wish we had the...More
When checking their website to see whether or not they were open, and hours of operation, it was posted "Hours: Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.". We left Trewlarny, Falmouth on December 31, 2018 for what our GPS informed us, was a 90...More
The Estate is very beautiful, and it is worth a visit. The tour, give or take is about 1 hour long. There is a gift shop and a restaurant after the tour. It’s not a place for young children.
I was a little disappointed with...More
If you enjoy learning the history of how rum is made, this is the tour to take. It is very informative and gives an excellent history lesson on the Appleton Rum. There are plenty of places for good photos and you get to try various...More
The Appleton Estate tour is carefully thought out to show a visitor the end-to-end process with enough hands-on activities to engage most folks. Between grinding sugar cane, drinking sugar cane juice, trying molasses, and then enjoying a guided tasting of three rums, it was a...More
The Appleton EState Rum Tour was outstanding! We booked it through Sandals, and upon arrival we were given a coupon for a free rum drink (the rum punch was awesome)! The tour was well-done, with the docent explaining each step of the rum making process....More
We did the Appleton Rum tour as part of my husband’s 50th birthday extravaganza and enjoyed it very much. Rum has been distilled at Appleton Estate since the 17th century and this tour presents the company's rich history through historical artifacts and a tour of...More
You can go without a tour and if memory serves me right the cost was $30 US per person. Personally I think overpriced but it is what it is. You have a rum tasting at the end of the tour as well as getting a 2oz bottle of... More
You can go without a tour and if memory serves me right the cost was $30 US per person. Personally I think overpriced but it is what it is. You have a rum tasting at the end of the tour as well as getting a 2oz bottle of their regular rum. I would get a hired driver as some of the area is quite remote as well as roads forever undergoing construction.

Sorry, I don't know about private tours. Have you been to their new website? Happily, they did give everyone on the tour a complimentary 200 ml bottle of the "Signature Blend" at the end of the tasting session. Mine is... More

Y.S Falls and Appleton Estate Tour w/Lees Tours (5 Replies)
Has anyone gone on this tour w/Lees Tours from Ochi? They say it is an all day trip because it goes to the south coast. Wondering if it is worth a whole days travel around.

That would really depend on how much you would enjoy/not enjoy being in a moving vehicule for a LONG time. If it's something you "do well with" it may well be worth it, but you're talking a LOT of driving and a long day for sure. Blessings and respect to you. Steve
Local eateries/local food/ weekly specials (28 Replies)
What are the daily local restaurant "specials" and what roadside/off the beaten path/ "local" places are there.? WE LOVE LOVE LOVE those type fares...... when we were in GC before a local tour guide heard us talking about turtle stew on a Friday and asked if we wanted to try the local touch and dropped us off out of the main hub of Georgetown (could it be Appleton Estate?) What is the response about Miss Vivian's?

Thanks. We plan at least one day trip "out of the city" to the East end area. We live in a VERY rural area and are accustomed to driving 20-25+miles to a restaurant etc. Thanks for the tip! we'll keep researching too.

We have booked a tour of Appleton Estates on our next cruise. Our ship will be in port the first part of March. Has anyone taken this tour from Falmouth, if so how was it ?

Cruise ships just began docking in Falmouth last week. So, you won't have a wealth of people who have done this tour from the cruise pier. There are some hotels in the area. Hopefully folks with experience from those hotels will reply to your question. My husband, a Jamaican, is thinking there must be some short cut through the hills that the drivers know. Otherwise this trip could be over 3+ hours on the road both ways. Another option would be to ask the tour company that you booked with...More
