We were doing sight seeing and fell upon this monument, it's quite small but interesting to look at! Everything is written in French, so to be honest I don't know who he is/ was. Saying that, we enjoyed the culture and our day in GUADELOUPE, . You'll find the local market area just up from this monument.

There is a costume collection on the first floor and exhibits about Nobel Prize winning poet Alexis Leger on the second floor. I would give a higher rating if I were interested in him or colonial architecture. Admission was free. There was no bathroom. Park at Memorial ACTe and walk from there, seeing the open market on your way.

The architecture of the house and the garden in the back are very nice. There is a small costume exhibit on the main floor. On the second floor is an exhibit that traces the highlights of the life of the Nobel Literature Prize winner for poetry, St. John Perse, who I'm embarrassed to say we had never heard of before our visit. The exhibits assume that one knows a lot about him (so we missed some context) and didn't have any audio visual components and also didn't have any excerpts from his poems.

While the museum on the Guadeloupe Nobel Laureate in Literature is closed on Sundays, go anyway to admire and photograph the outside of this beautiful colonial home. This was the mansion of one of the owners of the Pointe-A-Pitre sugar refinery which once stood on the grounds of the present-day Memorial ACTe Slavery Museum.

The Musee Saint-John Perse is a rare survivor of colonial-era Caribbean architecture. Those who have been to New Orleans will find it familiar. The museum is dedicated both to the history of Guadeloupe, but to its one-time owner, Saint-John Perse, a French diplomat, poet and writer, and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. The exhibits are well done, and the staff very well informed and helpful.

Looked like it was under renovation when I was there. The door was open though so sneaked a peak and it was ok but not much to see.

This was really interesting to visit a colonial home.
Saint-John Perse had left a lot of clothing from women.
I liked the ceiling and the living room.
Saint-John Perse also painted with charcoals and sometimes in colorful paintings.
The best part of this house was at the top. It was all made in wood.
Worthwhile to see!
