It was a great morning bottom fishing on the catamaran. Capt.Yustas picked us up at our resort at 7 AM and out we went. We had time just for a morning fishing trip and not in afternoon. Using light tackle, within 1 hour we had caught maybe ten Ballyhoo for the bait. Fishing with bobber It's really fun! And then we cruised with trolling rods about half mile from the beach and caught big barracuda. Then we stopped close to the fishing spot and did some reef fishing. We caught four yellowtail snappers. It was a great morning at a reasonable price. Yustas is a good guy, exceptionally friendly and knows the fishing around the reef where he has lived all his life. The catamaran is extremely clean and tackles is in very good condition. We would definitely fish with him again.

Had a great 3/4 day fishing trip on the boat Fortuna. The service and correspondence was exceptional before we went out. Capt.Yustas even texted in message a weather report the morning-of in case we wanted to reschedule. Our captain Cocot was great. He know where is fish. Deckhand Jurii was a real hard worker and really friendly. He is a great fisherman, teacher and person. It was our first time fishing here in Punta Cana and they made it very enjoyably. They took us to a couple of spots where we caught a bunch of mahi mahi then a couple cudas. We had an awesome time. I highly recommend them.

Very affordable and professional services that they provide. They take you to some really good spots and if you are lucky will end up leaving with three Mahi Mahi! No marlin but it's fishing...The boat Gone Dog was perfect clean and comfy. Highly recommend Deep Sea with Big Marlin Charters. The captain Cocote and deck hand Yuriy are first class!. These guys are awesome, thanks!

I have been out with lots of charters and these guys were great. Seas were calm and not conducive to fishing but we caught 4 mahi, 3 barracuda and topped it off with a huge blue marlin. The first mate Yurii was first class. The boat and tackle were i great shape I couldn’t ask for a better day!

I booked a trip sight unseen based on the high ratings on TripAdvisor. This was a mistake. First off, when I showed up, the owner had no confidence that we’d catch anything. Secondly, he is a Ukrainian who moved to the Dominican. I realized I was in trouble right away trying to fish the Caribbean with Eastern Europeans. Further, I wanted a six hour trip and he decided on a four hour trip. I am glad he saved me the extra money! The fishing: Gone Dog could barely create a wake to attempt to troll the waters. The “cold” drinks were in a warm cooler with no ice, and the free lunch was never served. My first mate was a Ukrainian who’d been fishing for 5 years. Just not a good experience, caught a few barracuda. I know that you’re not always guaranteed fish (that’s why it’s fishing), but these guys are just trying to make their $ and call it a day. The funniest part of the whole thing was the owner explaining that he can’t wait for Blue Marlin season in October. Well, it is currently peak blue marlin season (August) in Punta Cana. I went with another charter (Tease Me) the following weekend, and the experience was night and day. All first class from Captain to the mates. We actually got Big Marlin on that trip, and we did catch and release because keeping the ocean full of blues is more important than taking a picture of a dead blue marlin laying on your boat. If you’re going to PC, don’t go the budget route. It’s worth a little extra $ to go with people who know what they’re doing.

Response from Yustas F, Owner at Big Marlin Charters
Responded Sep 5, 2020
We always like reading our reviews and especially bad ones because they help us to become better. Usually, we don't respond to good reviews. We focus on doing our job well, and deeply appreciate if our clients take a minute to leave their feedback. But this review is written with the sole purpose to lower our rating. From the first lines, our customer pointed out that it's a mistake to make your choice based on TripAdvisor high rating. Really? Then WHAT should you base your choice on? Does this mean that 140 good reviews that we've got from our customers were written unintentionally or by mistake? OK. First of all, it's completely normal to say that we might return with a catch or without, fishing if not like going to the store. It's our duty to inform you about all the options. At the beginning of a fishing trip we tell our customer about our chances of catching fish, and what kind of fish. We also say that it might happen that we don't catch any. People who go fishing know that. Second, you wrote he is a Ukrainian who moved to the Dominican Rep. What does that suppose to mean. Our first mate was born on the Black Sea, in Europe. But he's been fishing here, on the Atlantic for over 7 years. He goes fishing every day, all year round. I believe any person who fishes 365 days a year can get sufficient experience. The country and nationality don't matter in this case. Of course, if you aren't prejudiced against Ukrainians. And by the way, our Captain is Dominican and he's been fishing for 27 years. I think he's also got some experience)) You caught 3 barracudas. That was what you got that day. When fish isn't biting, then it isn't biting even for a Dominican Captain, with tons of experience, even if he dances the Dominican bachata on board to improve his luck)) Concerning cold drinks. At the beginning of your trip, we said that because of COVID 19 the restaurant where we usually get ice was closed and asked you to give us 15 minutes to bring ice from the gas station. But your response was that drinks arent important. It was your choice. Also, we don't serve lunch for 4-hour trips. We don't make sandwiches for those short trips and you knew about it. We offered you chips but you said no. You wanted a 4-hour trip initially and we did it with a big discount for you because you really asked us for it, nobody said a word about 6-hour trip. I don't see anything funny about the First Mate saying that he prefers October for Blue Marlin fishing. Personal experience has more value than any calendar. Or was he supposed to say only what you wanted to hear? And finally - advertising or mentioning your friend, a beginning competitor of ours, on our page is bad manners or even worse. We also could ask our friends to write bad reviews for our competitors, but we have never done that. Because it wouldn't be a marine fellowship anymore. It's unacceptable and low for our moral standards. And of course you wrote that your friend was just awesome, and you caught a Blue Marlin, and everything went exceptionally well, and of course, you did catch release, not like our "bad" company with tons of real pictures of marlins on our boards...paper doesn't talk back... We understand. Everyone wants their space under the sun. Especially now when there are no tourists on the island because of the pandemic and you would like to help your friend. But we are specializing in fishing, not in looking for flaws in our competitors. We just don't have time for that... All the best to you!
