We've tried several times to take a balloon ride, but no matter where we were, the winds were always too high. I think we were always thwarted because we were meant to take this flight with Luis. He's a man who loves flying and loves his family and their business. It was amazing to watch them work together to get us in the air, flying over farms, sugar cane fields, and the beautiful landscape of the D.R. It was such a wonderful experience, we can't thank Luis and his family enough for making this dream come true.

My wife and I did the Dominican balloon experience on the 29th December and loved it. It is an early start (06.00) as the sun rises at 06.30, we travelled by minibus to a disused baseball park for the balloon preparation. Once there we watched the balloon inflate and had a chance to stand inside it to take some photos - great experience. Once ready we were all seated inside the gondola (basket) sideways ready for the hot gas to start to lift the balloon. One point to note you are very packed into the sections within the gondola so there isn't much room to move. Our pilot Louis was very experienced, superb, really funny and very informative about the whole process. Very soon we were up, fully inflated and straining at the ties to go go go......and then we were released, it was so smooth and we zipped up with the wind and within a minute the town below had almost disappeared.

We floated up up and away, it is so peaceful and quiet as there is no wind noise (as we travel with it) the locals below were waving and before long we were over the beautiful countryside and jungle watching the sun rise and the planes come into Punta Cana airport. The views were superb, the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Carribbean sea on the other, a great vista.

Louis gave us all a briefing on how the balloon flies interspersed with some funny jokes and stories. He said that this was an adventure rather than a flight as it really depends on the wind speed and direction as to where we end up which was a good point. We flew for about 90 minutes and then looked for a suitable landing spot hopefully somewhere flat.....we came down a few times nice and low to practice this and the gondola parted the sugarcane crops a few times spraying us all with early moning dew, a great experience!

When we finally found a spot we all had to brace for the landing, we sat down, held tight and waited for the return to terra firma with anticipation.....it was a text book landing and at the last minute the wind pulled the balloon and we toppled over in a fresh cut field of sugarcane and cow pats. As Louis rightly said, sometimes you just do end up deep in the s**t.

Once landed and within minutes the crew were packing and tucking the balloon away and we set up camp on the edge of the working sugarcane field for a spot of brunch, fruit and a glass of champagne.

We would recommend this trip, it's a great experience with a knowledgeable and funny pilot and lasts overall about 4 hours from start to finish. If you haven't been ballooning before try it here, the views and sunrise is spectacular. Enjoy!

This was an amazing experience! My daughter and I are extremely afraid of heights but we felt like we were floating above the ground and totally enjoyed it. We booked via their website and had our hotel call the day before to confirm our pick up time. We were on vacation with our family so we had our 5 plus a few other couples on our balloon. We were lucky enough to have the couple from Canada that certified Luis join us on the balloon and for breakfast. It's such a unique experience and Luis has his family involved from start to finish, whether it's his nephew helping get the balloon set up or his father cooking a fabulous breakfast for everyone! This is something we would definitely do again!

My wife had scheduled a sunrise ride on Feb 16th, her birthday. After not showing up, they left a message at the front desk saying they would try again on the 17th. They had to cancel to due weather which is perfectly understandable. On the morning of the 17th, no show, we stood in the lobby from 5:45 am til 6:30 again, This time no call & no show. Now they won't refund our $527.00 saying we were no shows. They are trying to steal our money without providing their service. We booked this through Expedia and they are working on it. These guys are thieves plain and simple!

I booked this excursion before going to the Dominican and was sadly not able to get in contact with Luis before hand, however the pick up was on time and as soon as we arrived we got straight in the balloon and were taking off around 5 minutes later. I had planned to propose to my girlfriend and she obviously didn't know. The only thing I could think of was to type a message on my phone and show it to Luis. His reaction was perfect as he simply replied 'don't worry my friend it will be cooler soon' - a good cover up. Before I knew it Luis had his GoPro out and announced to the group that 'my friend Rob has an announcement to make' - I was glad for the gentle push. He filmed the proposal and took pictures (which he emailed to me the same day). He was very professional and reassuring throughout the flight explaining what we could see in the distance as well as the safety procedures. As if the balloon flight itself wasn't enough when we landed it was quite a sight to see all his helpers collapse and pack up the balloon. We were then driven back the landing sight having travelled around 13 miles where we sat down to home made cheese and crackers, fruit and champagne whilst being told of the history of hot air balloons and the tradition of the champagne toast itself. Luis then upped his game even more by keeping us entertained with magic tricks, handing out certificates and even turning the cork from the champagne bottle into a mini hot air balloon on which he had written our names and the date - a lovely keep sake. His dad was also very sweet and attentive. All in all an amazing experience and I cannot thank Luis enough for making our special day as smooth and as memorable as possible!

My husband and I took our two older granddaughters to the DR for Thanksgiving. We had seen reviews of Dominican Balloons on the internet and thought it sounded like an amazing thing to do. We were right; it truly was a perfect experience. The owner and pilot Luis is a brilliant and beautiful person. We arrived at dawn and watched the balloon inflate. After that it was in the basket for the most breath-taking adventure. Our girls (9 and 14) were a little apprehensive when we told them what we had planned, but Luis's skill and relaxed personality immediately put us all at ease. We saw such beautiful landscape: mountains, the sea, sugar cane fields. After our flight we had a lovely lunch with Luis and some of his family members. Luis even served us cheese freshly made that morning.
My husband and I our seasoned travelers with a home in the USVI. We avoid "excursions" like the plague. This time spent aloft, seeing things from a completely new angle, was NOTHING like a typical tourist attraction. Do yourself a favor: add this experience to your bucket list. You won't be sorry. Thank you, Luis, for giving us another reason to be thankful on a Thanksgiving we will never forget.

What an amazing way to see the beautiful countryside of this paradise, from the basket of this spectacular hot air balloon! We set sail from a baseball field located in the middle of a giant sugar cane plantation! As we soared upward, it was possible to see for miles~ sugar cane fields, mountains in the distance, the Caribbean... unbelievable! The operator was very knowlegable, capable, safe and humorous! We skimmed the tops of the sugar cane and landed in a field, where a delicious lunch was served! If you ever get the chance to visit the Dominican Republic, try to take this tour!!

My fiancé and I recently took a balloon ride with Luis at Dominican Balloons, it was both our first flight in a balloon but any fears we had were quickly dissolved when Luis introduced himself with a very warm welcome.

BOOKING
The process of booking was very simple and hassle free, I received responses from all my emails and Facebook messages very quickly, Luis informed me that it was a family run business with himself and his father, he let me know that we could always pay after the flight with cash or by credit card, this is due to any potential cancellations due to bad weather ( the weather was near perfect for our entire stay with only 1 day out of 10 being overcast and rainy, the weather on the day of our flight however was perfect).

PICKUP
All we had to do was let him know which hotel we were staying at and which day we wanted, a minibus came to pick us up at the arranged time at the hotel, with a quick 20 minute drive to the take off point.

FLIGHT
Once Luis had introduced himself he went through the whole process with us and explained everything he was doing, as soon as the balloon was ready we climbed in the basket and before we knew it we were floating like a cloud up,up and away.
The actual flight was like a dream, there seemed to be no wind at all, it was explained that because we were travelling with the breeze then we wouldn't feel it unless the direction changed, as we rose in the air so did the sun which filled the sky with its radiant light and beauty which gave the entire experience an extremely romantic feel, this was where I Proposed to my girlfriend. All of the photos and videos taken were a complimentary part of the package captured on Luis's GoPro.
We got about 3000ft up and travelled a total of around 19 miles, our flight lasted over an hour, in that time Luis ( who spoke perfect english ) kept us entertained with anecdotes and stories about his travels, he pointed out all the sites and told us about the birth of tourism.

BREAKFAST
Once we landed the team were there to quickly pack everything away and take us back to the take off point, this is where breakfast was laid on for us, a banquet of freshly made local cheese, ( this was prepared by melting it, sprinkling a little pepper and oregano on it and serving with some bread or garlic biscuits ) we were also served a variety of exotic fruits which were all grown and cultivated by Luis's father.

Dominican Balloons are the only company that do balloon rides in the Dominican Republic, the best way to book your flight is direct through the web site, this cuts out the middle man and any unnecessary interference from hotel tour operators who are only looking for a commission.

All in all we had an amazing experience and I would highly recommend and urge anyone who is visiting the Dominican Republic to add this to the top of there list of excursions as it really is a thoroughly wonderful and magical adventure.

Thank you Luis for your kindness and expertise in making our day so special.

Hands down, best attraction ever, doesn't matter the cost, book it! Luis and his amazing team will get you the best hour of your Dominican visit.

We contacted them directly through their page, Luis was very quick answering and detailing everything we needed to know about. We got a call the night before to rest assure everything was ok, on both sides. Next morning they picked up us right on time at 05:40am, you think is early, but no, that's the best hour to embark on this great excursion.

Once we get to the departure point Luis immediately took over and was all time explaining all kind of details related to the balloon and their history, dominican culture and the excursion itself. The one hour we spend on the balloon it was amazing. So peaceful and quiet, with the sun rise at same moment, bet I'm doing it again.

At the end we had a great breakfast, with fresh juice and fruits they cultivate themselves on the surrounding areas of their warehouse, and a local cheese really tasty. Big thanks to Jose for his tasty gift, a huge mango just collected from the tree. Luis once more amazed us with his great humor and kindness, we even enjoyed a small magic act from himself.

Book the excursion, period, you will not regret it.
