Our travel agent recommended Gone Fishing! Owner was very responsive to my many questions before we booked with them. Picked us up right on time and let us know that it was going to be a little rough out there today and gave us the opportunity to cancel if we wanted. We did not cancel and went out. Yes it was a little rough but the boat handled it no problem and our crew was awesome. We caught 5 Barracuda in 4 hours. Not many other boats caught many that day. I would recommend spending a little more money and getting a private charter like we did, just two of us, as other that had several more people on their boat may not even have an opportunity to reel any fish in unless you catch a lot

Weather was not cooperative most of the days in january, but we are getting to through the rainy season and back on the track!
Thank you for keeping with us, and congrats on your catch.
I hope ( as you are hoping, too) that next time we can put you on the marlin or mahi mahi, it is worth it once when you try the delicious meal from your catch.
Restaurant on the beach is opened, next time when you guys are here just let me know.

Ok I seldom write reviews but this place truly deserves a review.
Booking. I sent a email asking for prices for a private charter for 4 hrs for a group of 1 to 3 I got a response very quickly with a detailed prices and it was personal. I didn't book right away because like always trying to get everyone to agree on something is always impossible. A week or so later I got a follow up email with a detailed report on what's biting at the moment and weather conditions. I decided to book cause I wanted to fish while I was there so I booked and left it up in the air about how many people would be there. I put a small deposit down and immediately got a response and a invoice.
As usual, once there, the whole group decides they want to fish more people than originally asked for. So I immediately sent a message and got a response back saying not a problem and rearrange transportation for the whole group.
Pick up at hotel
To my astonishment pick up was perfectly on time with friendly driver and an actual company van not hired out to a third party.
Once we were at the beach we were greeted by our first mate (totally embarrassed I can't remember his name ) and was briefed on the current weather and safety measures. After filling out our liability forms we were immediately taken to our boat where Captain Tito was waiting for us. ( I remember his name cause of vodka).
The boat
Was a 42 incher. clean. Very nice. Spacious and well equipped. Lots of beers and non-alcoholic drinks.
Fishing.
Well we saw a Mama humpback and her baby 10 mins in and then 2 dolphins so that was awesome
Well it's fishing. There's no guarantees. There's no nothing but we tried and eventually was rewarded with a 35 lb yellowfin tuna right at the end.
Now it's easy to write a good review cause I caught a fish but even if I didn't catch anything I still would've given a 5star rating cause from beginning to end that's the service I received.
I honestly like to thank Jack and his whole crew for a great time and I can now say I found excursion that I will repeatedly do with the same company for years to come.

I am sorry to respond just now, one of drivers was absent so I was helping with pickups and drop-offs, it was hectic a bit but here I am, stronger than than ever :)
I really hope next time we get you on some sea monster worth fighting for, fishing luck is not so luck sometimes but we are trying.

I have so many wonderful things to say, I don't even know where to start.
I am in the DR alone for my birthday, and the ONLY thing I wanted to do was deep sea fish. The company emailed me a couple nights prior, informing me that no one else has signed up, and they may have to cancel. The next morning they offered me a discount to go private, which I immediately jumped on!
Rosina has been so kind and very quick with her responses during all of this! My driver was on time, and informed me that there were 7-9 foot waves, asking if I would be ok with that 😱 Yes, it was frightening a couple times, even though I've been on boats all over the world. BUT, Captain Tito was amazing when it came to handling those waves, and I felt very safe. He was perfect!
Wander and JJ were so kind helping me with the fish, and caught 8 barracuda and 1 wahoo! It was truly a wonderful morning!
I am planning my 40th here in 1 year, and will definitely be using them again! I HIGHLY recommend this company.

We booked through our hotel, Paradisus Palma Real, and had read about Gone Fishing prior to arriving in Punta Cana. Gone Fishing picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the fishing trip. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and warned about the 6 foot swells. When deep sea fishing it’s known for people to become sea sick, but this didn’t phase us as it’s part of it. Set out to sea with Wander and Franklin - two of the best!!!! We caught 14 huge fish (13 Mahi Mahi and 1 Wahoo). We all got a little nauseous, but we knew that would happen. I actually got sick and then felt fine after. None of that took away from the amazing experience! I’d 100% go again! Thank you Gone Fishing for making our first deep sea fishing adventure so amazing!!!!! And thank you for the kindness and hospitality!!!!

We booked a private 5 hour fishing trip for Monday October 18th 2021. I booked the trip two months in advance of our trip. Jack the owner was very responsive from the start. He arrived at our hotel right. The morning of trip to pick us up right on time. He answered all of our questions on the ride to the boat. He gave us great recommendations of other things to do while on vacation. We go to the beach where our first mate Wander meet us to take us to the boat. Wander was extremely knowledgeable and went over safety with us. Once we got to the boat we met our Captain Franklin, who was also extremely friendly. Once boarded they were all set up and ready to go. Both Franklin and Wander extremely professional and organized and we set out. WIthin 15 mins of lines in we landed a nice sailfish, which we got mounted, and no pressure from the crew which was nice. The boat and equipment was in great condition. They were definitely the nicer of all the boats in port. I crew was very accommodating and just a joy to be around! We ended up catching a 10 nice Mahi Mahi, a sail fish and a barracuda. I have done multiple deep sea fishing trips around the Caribbean. this was by far the best. We had non stop action except for about an hour. I know this isn't always the case, because it is fishing after all. But my group had a blast. at one point we hooked up on all the lines with Mahi Mahi, what a blast! Two of the people in my group never been deep sea fishing, and are now hooked. Wander even went below and made the best Mahi Mahi ceviche we ever had. They also provided us with drinks and sandwiches which was a first on all the deep sea fishing trips I have been on. At the end we brought back some of the catch to get cooked on the beach which was amazing. We let the crew have the rest of the catch. I highly recommend this company and crew, you won't be disappointed. I am so impressed with Gone Fishing from the start of the process all the way to the end!!!!! This was extremely affordable and by far the best deep sea fishing experience we ever had!!!! Thank you Jack, Franklin, and Wander you will be the first we call for our next Trip to Punta Cana. You have a great operation and staff, cannot wait for our next trip with you!!!!!!!!!!

My husband loves fishing back home so we decided to try it. We came across this excursion at our resort. We drove a bus to the location where we signed paper work and collected our life vests. One of the workers explained that the waves would be 7-9 ft and that it was perfect weather for fishing (yea right...). We took a small boat to the actual boat we would be fishing off and once we got on they offered us beer, water or soda. We were pretty excited but once the captain started his engine, all that changed. The waves were so high, 5 out of 6 people were sick. Myself and another woman on the boat were so sea sick, all we could do was vomit and sleep the whole time. My husband was sick himself but tried his best to fish through it. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch any Mahi Mahi but he caught a barracuda. I felt as though the captain didn’t care about our health or well being because he kept pushing through the waves as if all was well and fine without stopping or even asking if we were okay. Obviously WE WEREN’T! I see that other people left good reviews but this experience for us was a waste of money and so disappointing to say the least. I understand that you can’t control the weather or the fish in sea but their lack of interest or care regarding their passengers was a huge turn off. Never again!

I am sorry to hear that all of you vomited, I am sure that it was not nice experience for any of you.
Be assured that captain do care about your health, just because he have to do his work (driving boat, looking for fish) doesn't mean that he doesn't care, he simply can't be on both sides.
To be fair, we are are constantly mentioning that deep sea fishing can be rough on sensitive stomach, we use every opportunity on social media and even here on tripadvisor to recommend pills and seasickness remedies, to avoid situations like you had, and to avoid this 1 star type of reviews. Even on our website you will find article with the most popular remedies for sea sickness, it's the fact that we are 100% aware of the seasickness and we do all what we can to prevent it. Also before the trip, last email from the booking process, I say to take care about seasickness. If you booked over some agency that step might be not mentioned, but still I do whatever I can to inform about the conditions.
Taking that in the consideration, I personally think it's too harsh to give 1 star review for something that is ultimately in your hands and that can be easily prevented with just one pill, dramamine, behind-the-ear patch, etc.

Gone Fishing went above and beyond to make my trip happen. My wife had a stomach issue the morning we were supposed to go and just hours before pickup (at 6 AM) Jack worked with me to get picked up later to make sure my wife was okay before taking off for the day of fishing on my own. He absolutely did not need to do this and he even called my resort to work it out with me so that the timing was good for me and for his driver. The day just got better from there! Elvin picked me up, and what a special experience that was! Elvin is incredibly kind and let me practice my Spanish while sharing conversation about every topic under the sun. I felt like I made a true friend and would love to have spent a whole day having a cigar and just talking with him! Thanks for the recommendation on Mangu! The Captain, Franklin, and the first mate, Wonder, were incredibly hard working and also made for fantastic company on the boat. As a fisherman, I love the experience of being out on the boat and Wonder let me help with rigging lines and learning to properly set out the bait. Franklin worked tirelessly to keep us moving and tracking fish. We landed Mahi and a Barracuda, but had a ton of hits, and I am sure we would have landed a few more if I had not been the reason for our late start. Thank you for making memories for me, this was such an incredible trip! I would fish with this crew again in a heartbeat!

Had a great time on our trip was well informed of the conditions and what to expect, guide worked hard to keep us baited and fishing and caught several fish. Highly recommend using Gone Fishing if you are in the market for a good time, Jack got us booked easily after giving him some basic info and transportation to and from the hotel went seamless. Very professional!!

Before arriving I dealt directly with Jack. He gave me the rundown of how everything was going to go from the moment I would be picked up from my resort to the minute I would be dropped back off. The weather was great but the ocean was not. 8-10 foot constant waves were bashing us for the duration of our trip. Of course this was no fault of anyone, and my wife and I were informed of the ocean conditions before we went out so we knew the risks. My wife ended up not feeling well the whole trip so she ended up sleeping inside the cabin of the boat. While she was asleep I befriended Anderson, the first mate, who was amazing. He was a great help to me and we were able to get on a few fish even with the help of the captain Tito. I can't say enough good things about Jack and Anderson, I would recommend them to anyone!

We had an amazing time fishing with Franklin and Wander! Truly an amazing team that are very professional and really know their fishing. They are very much on the same page with everything. We had an amazing day fishing, catching several Mahi-Mahi's including 1 trophy Mahi- Mahi! Cannot say enough good things about the company. Would definitely recommend anybody considering a fishing trip to consider using Gone Fishing!

I will be in Punta Cana starting June 20th to 26th and would like to know how the fishing is for Marlin this time of year. I'm an experienced Anglers who has taken people tuna and shark fishing. But would like to hook up to a nice blue marlin and possibly have my girlfriend real in a few mahi.

I haven’t gone that time of year...however the first time I went with gone fishing was early July.
I think the chance to catch Marlin is slim but we caught a good number of mahi mahi which was awesome!

Hi there, when I did the private charter we had 8 people and it was $85us per person.
If you do the public charter you will be around $135us per person.

Thanks so much for your interest in our outfit.
October is one of my favorites months for the vast variety of fish that will start coming into our area.
October normally brings in our first Northern currents and with them loads of fish. Especially Mahis and also Wahoos and even sail fish but usually towards the end of the month.
And don't forget the big boys " Blue marlins" are still around and strong. As for spinning gear we have some on all of our boats especially for the times we run into schools of mahis.
Makes it for a more entertaining time when you fight these fish with a 20lbs test line instead of an 80lbs test line :)

We are a group that will be looking to book a private fishing charter in January 2019. We would love to be able to bring our catch back home with us. Does Gone Fishing offer to hold and freeze any fish caught during a charter so that we could pick it up on our departure date?

Hello Jenny,
the easiest quickest and cheapest way is to bring it back yourselves.
Just bring a portable cooler, you know the ones that fold up and some re-usable ice packs.
After you're done fishing crew can filet your fish and we can seal and freeze them for you.
So on the day of your departure you either drop by to pick your fish up on your way to the airport or we can bring them to your resort for a small fee to cover transport fees and off you go.
I’ve had guys from Vancouver do this and even switch flight and the catch stayed frozen the whole time. Hope this helps.
