Absolute must see!! Best beach we’ve seen yet. Amazing for surfing. We seen some guys catching 2 waves at a time. Fun to play in the large waves. Not recommend for children, not a place for snorkeling. Will need water shoes as there are some rocks. The main access is located by a few restaurants and some small shopping boutiques set up on the sand, so bring some cash. There were horseback riding options on the day we went as well. Perfect place for adults to take pictures and relaxing on the beach.

This beach was beautiful despite it being heavy seaweed season. They have done a good job clearing it off of the beach. The water is still very murky due to the seaweed but we had a wonderful time.
If you choose to use Uber be aware that they are not always around this area. The taxi wanted to charge us $35 compared to Uber which was $12 but we did have to wait for about 25-30 min for an Uber to be in the area.
There are chairs/loungers and umbrellas to hire but if you don’t mind sitting on a towel I would save yourself to money and find a palm tree to sit under. We left our belongings on the beach while swimming and we kept an eye on them without any issue.

The hotel is truly amazing. But the most outstanding part of our experience at the resort was their customer service. All the personal from the receptionist to the housekeepers were always smiling and happy to assist us.

An special recognition to our butler Mr. Arismendy. He is a real gentleman. Elegant and super warm in his service.

Sincerely,

Jorge Ortiz

We made it to this beautiful beach from a Buggy excursion. The beach itself is clean, calm and beautiful. I would not go there alone because I would be afraid for my life. Many Haitian vendors in your face tryin to sell you everything falsified in dollars. They kept telling us to leave our stuff while we bathed....mnmm first sign not to leave your stuff. Many kids asking for your stuff and your shoes. They are not even Dominicans. There is a full blown scam happening here. They will try to give you flowers, birds and iguanas for pics and of course charge your dollars. $10 Pina Coladas....its ridiculous how money hungry these people have become to the point you cant even enjoy this beach....you are more afraid for yourself and your stuff.

We truly enjoyed our stay here at the Macao Beach Resort in Punta Cana. It was such a relief to get away from home and relax during the pandemic. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and truly enjoy making their guests happy. Ugery especially made our stay extremely pleasurable, always going out of his way to make sure we we had everything we needed and were comfortable. He ensured we felt safe during our vacation during the pandemic, and helped us secure outdoor dining tables. Ugery was friendly with our children, ages 11, 9 and 6. He even surprised them with Coconut drinks and Pringles, the little things can bring so much joy! We can't wait to return to this lovely resort and hope to see Ugery and the other people who made our getaway such an enjoyable experience.

The beach used to be all public but seems to becoming more private as a big development is nearing completion. Water is a lovely blue and sand beautifully white. So sad however that there is so much rubbish and plastic waste hidden in the bush between the beach and the car park.

Also watch out for being ripped off by the beach bars. They tried to charge us $15 for a pina colada. This was reduced to a still expensive $10 when we complained.

Pack a picnic and give the over priced bars a miss.

Beach is beautiful and definitely worth a visit

We went on a buggy excursion which was AMAZING! Only downside to it was when we visited this beach and had the locals swarm us. The man w/ the monkey was VERY aggressive. After we said no - he put his monkey on us and took our phones and started taking photos, which we insisted we didn’t want and then he told us we owed him twenty dollars US. We told him no and tried to tip him several US dollars instead, in which he denied and told us that gets us nowhere. Then he went to a young girl on our excursion and took money from her fanny pack and when her parents asked for the money back, he gave them the finger instead. Afterwards he came back to us and demanded more money. Again we tried to just give him a couple bucks to get him away from us and he took it this time, but not without giving us a mouthful of how it wasn’t enough. Absolutely ridiculous. Travelled many places and this place was the worst for aggressive locals. Refused to leave the resort afterwards. Stay away from the locals if you travel here. They apparently do not understand NO. The beach looked amazing but didn’t get a chance to enjoy it unfortunately.

Our all-inclusive resort’s beach had plenty of seaweed so the locals recommended Macao Beach. It was a 30 minute ride from our hotel and it was well worth it. There are restaurants on the beach and it is open to the public. You can choose to pay for beach chairs and umbrellas for a small fee but that is totally optional. It was a pleasant day to swim in the warm blue ocean!

We visited the beach as part of the Jeep Safari tour and had spent the day driving around the Dominican countryside learning and experiencing some real culture.

We arrived at Macao and instantly realised this was a very different beach to that of the resorts with the sheltered reef. A wonderful beach looking out to the Atlantic ocean. Being an "unprotected" beach this gives a great opportunity for surfing (one of the only beaches with a surf school) and taking in some stunning sights.

The water is turquoise and clear, and the sand warm, soft and white as in the pictures. I would recommend being wary as there are sellers walking up and down the beach trying to get you to take photos with animals and buy products, so I wouldn't recommend leaving valuables unattended however it didn't seem a problem.

It is definitely worth a stop here for a couple of hours to really soak up the surroundings and take in some of the culture away from the resorts!

We went there at the end of a tour. Frankly, it was a poor end to a wonderful day! if you are a surfer, it is worth going to . WIth the local construction of a new resort the access is poor and presentation nothing to compare to other beaches. Waves are bigger for surfer.
