About
Three Jesus loving friends with more than 30 years of experience, got together to share their Stoke and all the benefits that Surfing gave them through their life; teaching kids from 4 to 76 years old to Surf, to respect the ocean and nature in general. We are in one of the most beautiful and undeveloped beaches of the Dominican Republic, on the Punta Cana area: Macao Beach, a localism free beach where everybody is welcome, with six different breaks and one of the safest beaches to learn how to surf, and yet exciting enough for experienced surfers. Literally making dreams come true, specially for those that dreamed all their life about riding waves, for those that want to make Surfing their main sports activity, and also for those that just want to get Surfing out of their "bucket list". Surf Shack with showers and lockers.

Amazing experience at Macao Surf Camp! Raphael answered all my questions and organized a great day of surfing for my husband and three teen sons, which included scheduling transportation to and from our resort (no need to book through expensive resort tour companies- go directly through Macao Surf Camp!) My family had some prior surf knowledge so we opted for board rentals only, without lessons. Regardless of not booking lessons, the staff was helpful, reliable and organized. I highly recommend this company if you're looking for a surfing experience in Punta Cana. Thank you Raphael and Team!

The one-on-one classes are great for someone with little to no experience in surfing. The instructors are very experienced and are with you all the time in the water, so you get to learn and have fun while being safe and cheered for. Really, they make great cheerleaders! After the sesh you can just chill out on the beach, enjoy some local food and drinks. Plus, you can get photos taken of your surfing time, so its a cool souvenir to take home and brag about your awesome time in Punta Cana. Totally recommend it.

I went for a private lesson which everybody did from our group of 5. Rafael organised the transfer from our hotel, which was fast and on time.
It’s been a very good intro to surfing for first timers. Gustavo was super relaxed, explained every necessary details, but did not waste our time on the beach.
In the water we all were given one personal guide, who I think helped everybody as much as they needed, we were told and instructed when we needed advice or needed to change something to be more successsful.
I,m very pleased and very tired after the session, but did enjoy every sec.
I had issues with my credit card, but I was able to pay later in the hotel.
I loved it.

I have never thought about starting surfing, but accidentally stumbled upon this activity during my vacation in Dominican Republic and chose this school. Guys made me adore this kind of sport and I wasn’t able to stop till time for leaving has come. They teach professionally, every guest has individual instructor in the water, who will always help you. The staff is friendly and there is transfer if you have no ability to get there. For sure, I recommend MSC. They will provide you with necessary equipment, comfort and positive energy 🏄‍♀️🤙

1. I had a intermediate lesson, so i cannot speak on the beginner lessons, which might be great.

2. the boards they had were of high quality.

3. outside of the lesson they provided great costumer service, they called me back and emailed me while trying to arrange the lesson.

4. after arrived at the beach Daniel spend 3 hours in the ocean surfing with his friends, I believe he said two or three constructive sentences to me in that time. After the 'Lesson' was over he drove me back to the resort and told me that he made most of his money off the shuttling of people around and not the lesson. and because of high fuel costs his cut of the money was much less this year. (VERY VERY unprofessional) -- while he might be an awesome dude and a much better surfer than most - HE IS THE WORST instructor surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, skiing, i have ever had.

5. macao surf camp may have some great people teaching for them - but if you are going to spend $80 bucks to surf make sure Daniel is not your instructor

If you are questioning weather you should go or not, stop. This was honestly one of the best times I've had. I went with my Son and Uncle and everyone got to surf. We got picked up by Daniello in the morning at 8:30, he gave us an informative and detailed tour on the way to the beach, took a 15min lesson and were surfing by just after 9am, this lasted until Noon. The beach was great and hardly anyone else was there, it's very scenic what with the cliffs off in the distance. Back at the hotel by 12:30 in time for lunch. Bottom line, go do this, you are pretty much guaranteed to get up and surf. AWESOME TIME, Thanks so much guys.

As a native Southern Californian, I grew up surfing. Well no, I grew up TRYING to surf. It's always somewhat eluded me, and yet I felt that inside me somewhere was an Anastasia Ashley waiting to get out.

The "camp" is a shack on the beach but make no mistake, they're pros. Definitely upgrade to the photo package--they some unforgettable shots!

THE GOOD:

-You get a brief surf lesson (ours was brief because we knew the basics)

-My BF and I each had our own instructor in the water helping us catch waves and time it right (the hardest part)

-The beach is deserted, so no random swimmers to potentially behead with your board.

-THE DOG PADDLES OUT AND THEN HE SURFS. THE DOG SURFS. (Unfortch, the dog also kept dropping in on my wave so I was left with no choice but to keep wiping him out. Hey, I saw Point Break, okay? I know the law of the jungle).

-During your surf break they give you rehydrate with some fresh-as-it-gets coconut water.

-The 90 minute surf sesh is just long enough to catch numerous waves but not totally exhaust you.

-The shack has wifi and takes credit cards! But obviously cash is better.

THE BADS:

-There's only one size board so if you're looking to up your game and try a short board, ain't gonna happen

-Caribbean water is WICKED SALTY. Expect some red eyes

All in all, a must-do if you're in the Dominican. But tell that dog to stay off my waves, bra.

TIPS:

-Bring your own towels

-Bring your own rashguard if you have one--they give you a very loose t-shirt kind of rashguard, which can get annoying

-Ladies, wear a one piece. You'll spend 90% of your time trying to keep your bottoms on.

-Bring cash for tips, and stash a few dollars on the beach for the coconut man during your break, he's very sweet and very poor.

-Learn a few surfy phrases to fully convince your friends back home how legit you now are.

Enjoy!

Just got back from a wedding in Punta Cana Area (Bavaro) and wanted to share my surfing experience. I searched for surfing in the area online before I went, and found very little, and what I did find fell through when I got there. There were many posts confirming that there was some surf about 10 km north of Bavaro at Playa Macao, but all the posts I found said there were no rentals so bring your own board which I did. When I was down there I contacted a surf clothing store and they gave me someone’s number who gave me someone else’s… I ended up getting very lucky and got in contact with a man named Rafael. Turned out that I could have rented a board off him, which I did for a friend who was down there with me. He turned out to be a great surf instructor, staying in the water the whole time with my friend who was quite nervous about surfing. She had such a good experience that I brought my son (10) and daughter (7) back and got him to work with them. He got them both standing up and riding waves! I visited the beach 3 times in the week I was there (Dec 3-10th), and there was fun surf every day. On the weekend there were just two of us for the first few early hours, and then later we were joined by only about 10 locals. On the weekdays we surfed alone! The beach itself is incredibly beautiful with no resorts to speak of yet. As many surfers know, many surf spots and beaches are being ruined by resorts and developments. Rafael spoke of possibly starting a campaign to prevent this – I don’t know how one does such things in the Dominican, but if you end up looking him up (which I highly recommend) when you’re down there ask him if there is anything that you can do to help protect this gem. Visiting this beach was certainly a highlight of my trip, so I would be glad to help. If you want to look him up, he started a surf camp called Macao Surf Camp. He mentioned setting something up on Facebook, but I’m not a member. His email is [--] and his # is [--]

I'm not sure where all these great reviews come from. Maybe it's because you have to speak fluent spanish for them to be okay with you. My boyfriend and I did the surf camp, I forgot our voucher as we were running late for the transport. Well they didn't even have us down to be picked up from our hotel, so we were lucky another couple was being picked up otherwise they wouldn't have come for us at all. The once we got to the surf shack the other couples were escorted to the beach and we followed as no one had said a word to us. Then they all had their pictures taken and finally once back at the shack the guy asks us what we are doing. We say we are here for surf lessons and he said we weren't with that group because we only speak English. So we wait again, the owner shows up and is irritated that we dont have the ticket. He finally confirms that we did actually pay for a lesson, but tries to act like we needed to pay for individual lessons because he didnt know we were coming today. He then gives us a 5 minute on land instruction and puts us with the rest of the group in the water. After the "surfing" waves we horrible, almost non existant. We decide to pay for the video. Sorry, not an iPhone user... well apparently that's the only way for him to give you the video otherwise he has to convert it and email it to you at a later date. Surprisingly the video comes through late that night, but the link wont work. I email immediately, hear back a few days later and am told that the file corrupted, which happens sometimes and he already deleted the original content. The only option is for them to refund me.... think I've seen this refund?! I paid $50 USD and gave a $10 tip and haven't seen a refund or heard back again. Hence my writing of this review.
