Uwe and Pierre offer a unique service. I have over 400 dives and have been diving since 2003. Uwe has a business model that allows them to give with out a doubt the best service I have had from a dive shop. They don't own a boat, they have space on local dive shop boats. The day starts with Uwe picking you up and getting you to the dive shop he works out of. There you walk to the boat, on the short boat ride to the dive sites you get the briefing if it was not giving at the shop. I was the only diver diving in the ocean the week I was there, he had other divers diving in the caves. I did not want to dive the shallows site, so the boat dropped the group at the shallows and then Pierre and i went to the St. George. This is a deep dive so we were back on the boat and headed to pick up the other group just as their safety buoy appeared on the surface. Next dive for the group was the Atlantic Princess. Pierre and I dove it at our pace and were first in and last out. I have dove off Bayhibie in April twice now, and it is so so diving, but his time is was very nice, the difference this time, the dive opperator. At my request we dove the Saint George and Atlantic Princess wrecks 3 days in a row. They were different each time, and in April theses are probably the best two sites. Uwe costs more, but life is too short for not great diving. This was a trip i will remember as one of the best I have taken. I plan to return to the Dominican next April and yes I will dive with Uwe again.

We did our open water diving certification with Uwe. He was extremely patient, walked us through everything and made sure that we completed the certification with ease and confidence. The four dives were so good we booked an extra day of diving with him.
The extra day entailed working with a couple of his dive master crew - Yopp (sorry if I mispelled your name!) and Pierre. Both worked with us to ensure we were properly suited and were very gracious at bottom. We got to see a lot of extraordinary things.
I couldn't recommend Uwe Scuba highly enough, they are a small outfit but you get very personalized care (as opposed to the mass tourism that daily migrates to Saona - which isn't bad in/of itself) but you feel like you're a part of the family.
I heard from folks that dove around Punta Cana that there really wasn't much to see around there - rocks mainly, poor visibility and not much wildlife. Do yourself a favour and drive to Bayahibe (tis a quick 40-45min drive on an easy motorway) from Punta Cana. The Caribbean is much clearer and there's a lot to see.

We spent 3 days/6 dives with Janine and Uwe out of Bayahibe. We met up with them a day before our first dive to get to know each other, where they spent some time explaining how they run their dive operation and what we could expect. Small, personalized tours - even if we were sharing a larger boat with another company, it would just be a small group of us going together, etc. Taking the time to manage our expectations, to me, was a true show of what kind of professionalism we could expect from Uwescuba.
Our first dive we were 5 divers with both Janine and Uwe (so they could assess our skill levels); after that we were no more than 3-4 divers with either Janine or Uwe. Loved the small, personalized groups. We were paired up with really experienced divers which was awesome as our bottom times were always well over an hour except for our deep dive, of course. Their dive briefings were always detailed and they spent time explaining what we could expect at each site including what entry would be like. Prior to our deepest wreck dive, we were given a safety briefing - we really appreciated how safety conscious they were. I never felt like I didn't know what was going on, even though most of the time people were speaking German.
We rented their BCDs and regulators - no problems with any of it.
As for the dive sites themselves, the area, like so many in the Caribbean, struggles with local overfishing. They are working hard to educate locals about the better ROI of tourism, but it's an ongoing challenge. You won't find any large schools of fish in this area, and as a result you aren't going to see any sharks either. We saw lots of sting rays, a wide array of fish (always quite small), lobsters and the coral was in fantastic shape. Compared to the South Pacific, it's not much, but we wouldn't hesitate to return to Bayahibe for diving as Uwe and Janine made the experience so darn pleasant we can't wait to dive with them again!
Do yourself a favour - skip the resort dive ops that herd you on and off boats like cattle; go dive with Uwe and Janine and you'll have a much better experience.

While visiting Casa De Campo with family, my nephew ( a new diver) and I dove with Uwe Scuba. Uwe, took the time to meet with us ahead of time to sort out details. After arriving the next day, he spent time reviewing dive basics and explaining boat diving. The gear was in great condition and serviceable. The dive boat was clean and professionally operated. Uwe led both dives which went well and were a great experience for my nephew. Tomorrow, my brother will join us as well. A great thanks to Uwe and his team who made the experience a great moment for my nephew, while keeping it interesting for me.

We are a Canadian couple who's currently staying and working in Bayahibe, DR. We have the great opportunity to dive with Uwe Rath who is just simply a first class kinda person. He takes the time to explain every aspect of every dive you are about to do, so it makes you feel very confortable and confidant. The extensive experience that this man carries with him is quite amazing. Always patient, always smiling and very attentive to details of your next dive makes us better divers after every dive we make. On and off the boat you know you are in good hands!!! Cheers to Uwescuba! Uwe... Got room for next week??

We were in Casa De Campo for a week and spent 3 days diving with Uwe. He is not your normal diving guide. He first came to our villa to meet us personally. Got to know us. Find out what we were interested in which was totally different from any dive guide we have ever done. We were a group of four and even though we were on a boat with many other people Uwe was our guide. We had 2 days of beautiful reef dives, The reefs were very healthy. Many eels, rays, turtles, squid, colorful schools of fish. We dove one more day but this time in the jungle to Chico cave. A fresh water cave with no silt it as the highlight of our trip. Uwe's passion is contagious. His patience, knowledge and sense of humor made it a please to dive with him. Can't wait to go back and dive more with him.

I made three dives with Uwescuba in February 2018. Pierre was my guide and did a great job and made the cave dive really something to remember. Uwe's is very professional and enjoyable to work with. If you are looking for a dive in the Dominican Republic you need to go here. Thanks Uwe and Pierre.

We saw the question about snorkeling and are impressed with the ratings on Trip Advisor. We too are interested in a half day snorkeling with 6 of us coming June 1 thru June 4. Is this something you can help us with?

We are going to be there on Tues 5/26/15 on the Carnival Conquest from 9am - 4pm. I have scuba dived once before in Mexico -- I have no certification. Do you have an offering appropriate for me?

Hello Ben,
thanks for your message. You need to do a Discover Scuba Diving Lesson before we take you out for diving. This lesson includes theory, confined water or pool lesson and one shallow dive in the ocean. All this needs +/- 4 hours to get it done.
The problem will be the time schedule from your ship and the transportation from the port to Bayahibe and back.
We are not able to pick you up and bring you back. You need to use the special taxi service. I need to know what time you will be out of the ship to see this lesson works with our time schedule.
Thanks
Uwe Rath
