Just came back from DR. I stayed at Casa de Campo and during this time it was very quite. Still no break on the cost of golf. I rented a car so I gave La Estancia a try. Whaa surprise!!!! Compared to the Links at Casa, $160 this is a steal. $80 with cart and waters. That's what a NYC public course charges without the waters.
The course is immaculate and the people were great. The caddie I used, Romon, was at Casa but couldn't get any work, too many caddies. He was great.
I met some guys from Cleveland and spoke to them and we went as 2 4balls and they couldn't believe how nice it was.
I played 3 rounds there and all were under 4 hrs. One day played on my own and finished in 2hrs 15 mins and that was playing 2 balls into the greens.
I would HIGHLY recommend you play this course if you are in the ares.
Also the bar was open and serving food. I just had a few beers but they were ice cold and reasonably priced.

Course is in really good condition and the ladies inside the proshop were very nice! However, it is overpriced. I can play nicer courses back home for cheaper.

Also, my caddy was very dishonest. We showed up and he forced himself onto us making us think caddies were mandatory (the proshop wasn't open yet, oddly enough, so I couldn't confirm). His name was Mike and he was very good at reading greens. At the turn, I paid inside and asked the proshop what the customary tip rate was for caddies and they said it was up to my discretion. After the round, I tipped him and unloaded our clubs. He followed us to the parking lot and demanded that I tip him more, saying what I gave didn't meet his rate. Im sorry but if you have a rate, you're suppose to inform the other party before completely the job. I was a bit stunned and being in another country, felt very uncomfortable and obliged.

During the round he dropped my $400 putter on the cart path and damaged it. It is my fault for not immediately inspecting it but when I got home I noticed it was chipped.

The caddy also told me that the course had 9hole rates available. When I returned 2 days later, I was surprised to learn that they do not have 9hole rates. Thankfully the girls inside cut me a break, but not a big one. I then asked them if caddies were mandatory and they said no. So I jumped out by myself and enjoyed 9holes without a caddy.

Next time I go to DR, I may just leave my clubs home and take a break from golf. But if you don't mind overpaying and shaddy caddies, you'll at least enjoy the course. It is maintained very well!

Oh and I also love how maintenance guys try to sell you used balls they find during your round. (no sarcasm, it's quite convenient!)

Better bring your own sandwich, club house offers next to nothing. If you play during the week, you might be alone on the course. However, I don't know how they do it, course is superb condition and challenging.

Just played La Estancia Golf last week, having played it last year, and it is much improved. It is a PB Dye design and is a good value for the money. The course is now well maintained where previously it was in poor shape. There are few clubhouse facilities. Again, a fair fee for a good, lesser known course

If you find yourself in the La Ramana area, with your own clubs, you must try this course. Due to the current financial position of the resort, their may be no phone to the clubhouse. That's okay, just load up, and take a cab over. No tee time needed. You'll begin play almost immediately. The fairways are being well taken care of, and the greens are big and Beautiful. The course comes from the Dye family design house, so challenging goes without saying. Cost wise, it's much, much more reasonable than the closest competition. Well worth the trip. Caddie still required, and we had the same guy all three days we played there. His name was Freddy, and I highly recommend His services. Tell him Sammy Sosa sent you. LOL. Bueno Bola!

Our concierge said the same thing as mentioned in other reviews - "I think this course is closed" but called for my dad and nephew and got a morning tee time. The cost $85 pp before 1:30 which is when my dad wanted to golf because it was cooler. My brother and sister in law went along to take pictures with no hassle from the course. Dad is 90 and my nephew is a novice golfer but the course was virtual empty so they could take their time. They would highly recommend - said it was great course, beautiful and well maintained, and the closest other course in the area was $250 pp.

At 1:30pm, green fees USD55 cart included, Callaway club rental USD45, mandatory caddie USD20 plus $5 tip.

Good that they allow my wife to ride/drive for free with caddie hitching a ride on the bag rack.

I was not allowed to tee off before 1:30 even though there was no one on the course, so went to practice range with free bucket of ball.

Cart comes with 4 water bottles in ice bucket.

We took exactly 2 hours for 18 holes with no one in sight until foursome on hole 17
who waved us on.

Course fairways are wide and well maintained. Lost 1 ball, but one can lose many on hole2 and a few others. Greens are hard, big and often undulating. 3-putted 7 times even with caddie providing the read. I would have scored better if I had aimed to land short and bounce onto the green instead if landing on the green and bounced off the green or 40 feet from the hole.

Signature par 5 hole 2 is across a ravine, requiring at least a 180 yard carry. From white tee (6110 yards), there are many par 4s around 400 yards.

I arranged taxi for 5:30 pickup but was surprised we finished at 3:30. Good that they phoned on my behalf for the taxi early pickup.

Overall I enjoyed playing bogey golf on La Estancia, my wife enjoyed driving the cart without throwing the caddie off. Only 2 holes have water in play. A few holes have nice elevations. End of October, 30C afternoon is hot but playable. Apparently most play in the morning at $85 green fees with cart. But I prefer 2 hour $55 than 4 hour $85.

Every time I asked at the hotel about this club they told me it was closed but the website said open so I went along and wow.
The drive leading into the club was great all neat and tidy lovely clubhouse and not bad pro shop
With mostly essentials inside but very clean. The young lady serving us was very attentive and courteous. The cost of the round of golf was only $60 with cart and Caddy and you paid the caddy whatever you think our Caddy Miguel was fantastic. I would highly recommend this course La Estancia is a must.
The course is beautiful well worth a visit

went here to play on this course..., only again recently opened as noted by past reviewers... as it was closed... but is now open.
there was hardly anyone here... but the course was excellent...
all in working order... from driving range and more...
course was in good condition.. some great holes... hole 2 was amazing virtually teeing off over a canyon to the fairway.. green fee included the use of the cart... and we had a caddy with us for a small fee split between us.
food cart was only poor issue when ordering a snack after 9 holes... it only then arrived when we were on hole 13 or 14 !
all in all, a worthwhile visit.... and one of the more reasonable green fees around...
as we are not high end golfers.. but I was here with my son and a group of friends

This development has now closed and not available. It is a shame as it was a gorgeous alternative to Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore
