Visiting Punta Cana, my companion got his PADI Open Water certification at SeaPro. I really wanted to dive Isla Catalina again. As a protected dive site the coral/ sponges/ fish etc. are impressive. The visibility is great and minimum current. For nondivers snorkeling is an option. After diving a beach lunch is included, with the option to buy a nice lobster or whole fish.
Yeah, I got the lobster.
For the same price of diving in Punta Cana ,$130 US, you get transportation to La Romana, fun boat ride out, 2 tank dive on a great site, equipment, decent buffet lunch, ( I'd also pay the extra $25 for a grilled lobster) time to splash around and hang with the
new friends you made, then back to your hotel by 8pm.
I booked through Antonio De Leon 1 828 903 5792, he will hook you up. Expect a 10% surcharge for credit cards, which is typical

We took our 3 and 5 year olds to Catalina the day after Christmas. It was the best day trip we've ever done in the DR. It was roughly $150 round trip for us to go with Caribe from Minitas Beach in Casa de Campo. The beach is beautiful, and has nice spots for snorkeling, swimming, etc. There was a bar for drink service, and a few shops, massage tables, etc. We recieved great service from everyone on the island, and can't wait to go back. Beautiful sand and water! Our boys loved seeing the starfish.

Great to get out on the water, and Catalina is beautiful. We were the only group there (which may be different post-Covid). Some pesky vendors on the beach approached us but not too bad. Price is reasonable but know that nothing is included (i.e. drinks or snorkel equipment) .

I must say I am quite confused with all the positive reviews of this island. Although it is very pretty it is a tourist trap. Please do not waste your money on an excursion here. We had 5 adults and 6 teens and charted a private boat to this island and it was regrettably one of the worst days of our trip.
Upon arrival you are swarmed by natives trying to sell you things. There is nothing to do except sit on the beach or take a small stroll through a walking path but it’s not even at the oceans edge. There are a handful of shops to visit as well. The water is pretty but very disappointing for snorkeling so it’s just for swimming. The teens (and myself) bored pretty quickly.
The buffet doesn’t open until 1 and although it was decent we had far better elsewhere.
Also it states that all food and drink are included but be aware that means beer, wine, water and soft drinks. If you want rum or any other alcohol it is $10 per cup! Plus if you have younger kids and want snacks you should bring them as you can only buy lays chips at $6 a bag. Otherwise you must wait for the buffet to open to eat. Thankfully my kids are not picky however there are no “kid friendly” foods at the buffet so if you have picky eaters beware your $35 dollar already overpriced buffet will go to waste.
In short, save your time and money and either sit on the beach at your resort or visit somewhere else for the day.

Me and my wife are on our honeymoon and booked this experience with Tui before travelling to the Dominican Republic. What an absolute waste of time. We were so excited to go. The duration 8 hours doesn’t mean on the island. We literally spent 2 hours out of nearly 10 hours. Most of that time was coach travel. The speedboat wouldn’t take all of the group as the sea was choppy, so had to wait more than 45 minutes for another one. The snorkelling spot was too dangerous for me and my wife as well as some others. The waves were very rough. The island spot we where on was extremely rocky and not the part I was expecting. Sun beds were uncomfortable and some broken while other groups along the beach had soft sun loungers and shade which we didn’t have. We were harassed literally as soon as our feet touched the sand and continued for the 2 hours we spent there. The food and drinks was poor. When I looked this experience up on YouTube it showed a different part of the island with a wooden jetty and no rocks. It looked beautiful. The part we were on was shocking. We left the island, or should I say hurried off onto the boat. Then spent more time travelling on the coach. They even stopped at a big gift shop to kind of get more money out of us. We just stayed on the coach. £176 spent on this experience minus what we spent on the island. Waste of money and a full day wasted.

This is the review I wish someone had left for me to read before I went on this nonsense trip...

If you are going on a private trip, you'll likely love it.. I could see on the way in how much potential there is for privacy and excellent snorkeling/diving...

BUT, if you are going with a resort (casa de campo for us) or cruise excursion, your experience will be a complete and utter tourist trap. Be ready for the heckling from the shop advertisers. Want to swim? Don't swim outside your designated area. Want to snorkel? Stay inside the tiny roped off strip if you want to snorkel. Like the beach? Be ready for a packed beach, 10 different bluetooth speakers blaring, and the stench of cigarettes.

I cannot wait until our boat comes to take us back, and I'll be dreaming of the mainland until then...

Absolutely STUNNING crystal waters. Snorkeling was so much fun. If beaches/snorkeling is your happy place, you won’t leave the water. 😂 So many unique fish, and they let the strong swimmers go out pretty far which was awesome for me. I even saw a sea urchin.

Keep in mind how close to the equator this is, because you will fry if you don’t wear sunscreen. Even if you never wear it anywhere/any other time. Protect ya self! I wore 100spf and still got a beautiful tan so I’d hate to think how fried I would’ve been without it.

Added note, the sand is hot AF!!

I did this as an activity while staying in the DR, not with a cruise, so we stopped before getting to the island to snorkel in a few places and then had lunch at the island with an open bar during lunch/on the way back.

I went here three days in a row, the beach is spectacular.
We were lucky to be here when there was hardly anyone here, we were told that sometimes cruise ships will have an excursion to the beach which brings large crowds.
Crystal clear water and white sand beaches, nice place for a walk on the beach, to lounge under an umbrella or for a swim.

The water is clear and beautiful and the beaches are white and like paradise, but as a snorkelling destination you could wish for more. The coral reef was a disappointment, some fishes but nothing spectacular though this could be expected since the coral reefs are dying.
The beach is beautiful and luckily not as crowded as it might be a normal day in season. all facilities you need is there. The lunch was actually really good and well cooked, plenty to choose from.

Of course it's obvious that it's tourist trap, but if you are lucky as we were and can be there in a relaxed way without hundred of other tourists it's a nice excursion to do just to get out of hotel area.

It’s ok. Much nicer places in DR, such as Bayahibe or even Bávaro. I wouldn’t make the trip again. I honestly don’t know why so many tourists choose to go here. Especially when it comes to scuba diving. Much better diving in Bayahibe.
