Good trip. We arrived at approximately 10:45 am and made our way towards the entrance of the church. There were quite a few locals in the front of the church, trying to sell us taxi rides around the city. There was a mass going on during the time that we went, so we paid our respects and stayed for a couple of minutes.

Tip: I recommend spending 15 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

This catholic church is the main church of Puerto Plata. The first church on this site was built of wood and eventually destroyed by fire.
Construction on its replacement began in 1870 and underwent a few rebuilds through the years so that the current version built in modern Victorian style opened in 1956.
It features three naves, many stained glass windows, and minimal decoration.
Its two bell towers at one end and a dome at the other end are visible from anywhere in the city.
On the day of our visit, it was largely devoid of any visitors.

Majestic Cathedral prominently located in the downtown core surrounded by colonial houses. You can’t miss it with its two bell towers presiding over a lively square. Here we found music, performers and tourist information guides. The original church from the 16th century was destroyed and then rebuilt to a modern standard. The inside is somewhat plain but highlighted by magnificent stained glass windows. A peaceful place for a prayer...

Beautiful town square with the historic Catedral San Felipe. The church has lovely stained glass window and dates back to the 1600’s. Be sure and walk around the square and admire all of the beautiful buildings. It is a small square, but worth the trip and not far from other attractions.

Fantastic church and house of worship located next to Central Park. Bright and vibrant, popular place. Great for photos.. Locals were kind of pesky, in trying to take your pic for a donation. Overall- a great place to visit

It’s a small but important church in the main square and it’s beautiful. Looking at it made me feel like I was in a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel. The visual details and experience are that vivid. Enjoy your visit.

This is just another young church. To me it did not offer anything new, but perhaps our guide left something untold...?!

This was a nice church, similar to what you find in most other Latin cities. They have 'tour guides' who tell you a bit about the church and then hassle you for a tip, be warned.

This Catholic Church was started in the 1600s and has evolved into a Cathedral. Beautiful stain-glass windows depicting important events of Jesus and Mary. I have some wonderful photos of the inside. Watch out for the orange shirt photo takers looking for a handout. You need to add this to your Puerto Plata list.
